I ended up getting a really bad MacBook Pro. Everything is fine but the CPU is always on high usage even if I only use Safari for web surfing. I have tried to fix that problem for days but nothing could help. I think the CPU is just too old, might throw the MacBook away

I still use the base 2015 MacBook Pro in 2022 and it's great. The design, the screen, the ports, are all still etremely modern. It's definitely dated in terms of power but it works great for streaming, web surfing, music production, and light photo editing & video editing. It's definitely handy to have a Macbook as an iPhone user for airdrop, imessage, etc.
I use it alongside my gaming PC and it does exactly what I need it to do.
I did get the battery replaced for around $150 through Apple and the thing works like new again. From what they told me the 2015 MBP is about to be cut from their list of servicable Macs so if you're an owner of one looking to extend its lifespan a bit, I'd recommend getting the battery serviced at least before its too late.
Apple really knocked it out of the park with this laptop in terms of usability and design. Amazing screen with all the ports you'd ever need. No need for dongles, no issues with the keyboard. I can see myself using this thing for another 5 years.

I just picked up a 2015 15" Macbook Pro (Iris Pro model) for $550AUD with a perfect chassis and no screen de-lamination + 90% battery capacity left - This thing is amazing, doesn't overheat under light load, and just got nearly 9 hours of battery life under Monterey - To put this into perspective, I also own a newer beast of an ultrabook - MSI Modern 14 with an i7-1195g7 and 32GB RAM : I'm happy when that thing last 5 hours on battery and somehow doesn't stay as cool as the 7 year old macbook. On light tasks (Firefox+VSCode+Spotify), I can't notice a difference in speed at all between the two. But the difference between 16:9 1920x1080 vs 16:10 2880x1800 is night and day.
Moral of the story - if you see a rich couple getting rid of their barely used 2015 15" that has been sitting in its box for most of its life, jump on the offer asap and don't worry about running 7 year old hardware

I'm using a base 2015 13 inch MacBook Pro. It had gotten incredibly sluggish, to the point of being unusable, even on web browsing. I recently learned from one of Luke Miani's videos that this happens on MacBooks when the battery is either missing or severely degraded. Mine is severely degraded. I used Macs Fan Control to keep the fans at the lowest RPM and keep the MacBook cool using an external turbine style fan. This restored the performance to like new. I am waiting for a new 1TB SSD and a new battery that I ordered. The new SSD should allow the computer to perform better than when it was new (not sure by how much). I can't wait!

      Heres some tips!!!
1: save documents separate from a backup! (Also backup your mac) dont restore from the backup as that can bring issues back.. unless you have to
1.5: 😂… Do a diagnostic test with it plugged in
2: using disk utility clean your disk and reformat it to the default settings.
3: do first aid, I think from the smallest volume to the largest… maybe double check that
4: re install the software using recovery mode
5: sign in and set up the mac
6: Do a nvram, pram, and smc reset
7: use reduce motion in accessibility, and adjust basic battery/performance to reduce usage (it is still older)
8: dont over stuff yo hard drive ! Keep decent bit of storage
9 enjoy your newly tuned mac!

Just picked up a mid 2015 MacBook Pro, 15 inch, i7 processor, 16GB of RAM and 512ssd that is absolutely IMMACULATE and without even a tiny scratch. I don't know how that's even possible for a laptop- or anything else-that's 7 years old....
It only cost 520 pounds and works fantastically- it's like a brand new machine! I've owned MacBooks since 2008- the white unibody Mac was my favourite- and now my oldest daughter has a 2021 MBP, my youngest daughter has a MacBook Air and we all own iPads and iPhones so we're fully invested in the Apple ecosphere- but this MBP is absolutely superb value for money! Highly recommended!!

Bought one the other day for £150.00 as it was sold as faulty, the user couldn't boot into the OS and the SSD wasn't detected in Disk Utility. When it arrived I removed the bottom panel and found that the SSD had been upgraded but never screwed back in, it was just loose. Inserted back into its slot, screwed it down, and now I have an immaculate MacBook Pro 2015 for only £150.00 - very happy with it.

I have been using this macbook since mid 2016 and it has been a powerhouse for a long time. This laptop is the sole reason why I refuse to purchase another laptop despite my current needing to upgrade my SSD and replace the battery (as others have mentioned, the battery will degrade and it will severely impact your experience).
The features you get from a macbook are great, the hardware is great, but none of that matters to me when I consider this next point; this laptop can take a beating and has even survived 3 full cup spills. I was feeling a bit discouraged from fixing this laptop and considered buying a new one, but I have realized with the help of this video that there is still treasure within my trash.

I'm still using my Macbook Pro 13-inch Retina (the exact same one as in this video, just a year older) almost every single day. I'm using it for light-work, such as typing documents and working for Facebook pages. It's almost 9 years old now and the battery is still very good. The only sad story that I've had with this machine is that it had a major screen problem, for which I was just too late to have it fixed for free. You must have seen this with other people, when you turn off the screen it looks like parts of the screen were burned-in. I've fixed this (kid you not) by rubbing Listerine mouthwash on top of for about two hours. This way you rub off the anti-glare, and now the screen is fine (only have more difficulties with sun reflection).

I personally don't run heavy cpu intensive apps but for basic internet use and Microsoft, word docs,ect... it does upload and download files in a breeze rather quick. Another thing that may help is replacing the thermal paste to help keep cool but I've downloaded Mac fans control to override when it operates.

@@Piojo69 yeah for sure, just make sure it's non metallic thermal paste, artic MX-4 or thermal grizzly. Definitely the ram is gonna help out with the speeds; If you have a decent budget you can swap out the stock SSD for something better, OWC (has some top tier SSD's) has a proprietary SSD ment for MBP's but quite hefty on the price. I opted to diy and get a M.2 ssd (Samsung Pro 980-, 970 is also on par with speeds) and an adapter to connect it . All you gotta do is flash the new ssd it's also recommended to get a enclosure for the ssd to flash the OS (BigSur). Ifixit is going to be your friend on terms of very good high quality tool's 😀 👍.

I got a 15" 2015 MacBook Pro a couple of months ago for $350 with a tired battery. Mine is a top tier spec with the 2.8 Ghz i7 and dedicated graphics w/ 16 GB ram. After replacing the battery, ditching MacOS and installing Manjaro Linux, it's safe to say it's one of the best decisions I've made in the past few years. With enough love and patience these machines can age like fine wine. The screen is still so much better than most mid-range Windows laptops these days (especially around the price I paid for my unit) the keyboard is much better than the butterfly keyboard, and battery life isn't an issue from replacing the old one and running a lighter OS. If you're willing to give Linux a try and aren't afraid to get your hands dirty, these older machines can be fantastic daily drivers.

This will remain the best Apple notebook for some years to come. Why? It is the most clean looking one. Everything angle looks just perfect. Not the weird Ive-left-the-building notchfest of the M1. No USB-C crap ports, which render useless if you put cheese in them, not the filty bezel that has different looks on each side of the screen. Second benefit is this runs Mojave, the meanest OSX of them all. Boot time is faster than on a M1 with Monterey, and it looks cool, not like Candy Crush shit all over. Also it is the best Windows laptop. And battery life is not bad, this had a mighty 75Wh battery, and the 14nm Intel chip has not been bettered till 2020 when the first 10nm ones arived. You can still browse 10 hours on this. You can get this for 300 bucks. Keep the other 1200 in your pocket and wait till M1 MB's go sub 500. This one will hold up till then.

Had a 2.9, 16Gb, 256Gb since early 2015 and amazing as it was/is. It’s feeling pretty old and a bit glitchy now even performing clean installs once every couple years. Minimal screen peel, battery still ~9hrs, replaced the thermal paste as it got a bit, “crispy”. Having ultimate hatred for the Touch Bar, I think the 14” Pro is soon to be the replacement. I wish they hadn’t added that damn notch but I think it’s the logical successor (with ports!!) that should get another 7yrs hopefully!!

I just purchased a early 2015 13inch macbook pro with 16gb ram which I care the most about because the storage is upgradable using a simple and cheap adapter. so fingers crossed it will work well. and btw I only payed $209 for a grade B+ model.

I've had this exact model for 6 years now and was just curious about what people think of it. It's definitely showing its age now but I used it heavily from 2017-2019 for uni which involved a lot of Adobe programs; editing videos, photoshop etc. It definitely wasn't a flawless experience but got the job done. I still enjoyed my time with it, although recently it's turned into my browsing + RUclips laptop since I bought a new PC a couple months ago.
Having to re-learn Windows again made me realise how much more I prefer MacOS. I think it's a lot better from a user experience standpoint; it's simply a lot more streamlined and there's a lot less tinkering needed. I also took the display for granted because my PC's monitor is nowhere near the same quality as a retina display.
Still, looking back I think it's funny that in 2017 $2000 got me this laptop that has a CPU with 2 cores and 4 threads, 8 GB of RAM and 128GB of storage.
Then in 2022, 2 months ago, $1700 got me a PC that has a CPU with 6 cores and 12 threads (Ryzen 5 5600x), 16GB of RAM, 500GB of storage for the boot drive, a 2 TB HDD for extra storage and an RTX 3060.

As someone else said, the macbooks performance will deteriorate alongside the battery. My battery is completely cooked and the performance has never been worse, so I would suggest looking into replacing the battery. An SSD upgrade will go miles too as the technology has much improved since 2015.
I built a wicked gaming PC but it still doesnt match the functionality of a laptop. I also love my macbook because running windows on bootcamp, allowing a user to switch between Windows and MacOS is far better to the alternative id face using a windows laptop. This macbook is superior in terms of durability and portability, as its predecessor was too bulky and its successor model cannot take half the beating that this macbook could easily take and brush off.

Got mine back in 2015 brand new when I was a student discounted for like £800 (RRP £1K) & still going strong in 2023...admittedly (as expected) it did need a battery service 5 years in but 3 years on from that it's just as good as it's ever been. My first ever MacBook, I always said I'd drag out its life and it sure as hell is doing that. Only other repair was a simple trackpad cable replacement due to the old battery swelling before service but again, it's a cheap part done by any repair shop for like £25 or yourself for £10. Battery service was like £150 from Apple in 2020 & they literally replace the entire bottom part of the laptop brand new, so only old part is the screen. I travel a lot internationally & it gives me peace of mind that if it's stolen or lost it would be a minor inconvenience as I'm long overdue an upgrade anyway...probably to a new MacBook air this time I reckon.

Yes, it is a little sluggish in areas. At the moment, I don't have a have a heavy workload for this to be a concern until I return to CAD and design work. Then I will buy a newer machine. But the for the basic work and projects, this machine is working fine. I've replaced the battery because of the high cycle count was no longer charging properly and was performing very slow. I also upgraded the SSD to a 256GB as 128GB was paltry then. While there is some life left in this machine, be advised that MacOS Monterey is the last OS this machine will support. Unless something catastrophic happens to the machine, I will keep this even when I get a new MacBook Pro.
