I find it interesting, your comment of the music being "Bi-polar" though I somehow doubt you'd sit through a movie and say about the musical score and say the same thing. And speaking of this being a score and your somewhat expectations of the guitar solo not being Stevie Ray shredding, it carried the melody of this piece forward into the interlude. Not much shredding going on in Tuomas' compositions. Do appreciate you allowing yourself to enjoy your floorgasm to completion and not pausing. I do want to address on comment made that was uttered over enthusiastically - "Hey, you haven't seen or heard anything yet," when actually you've just reacted to the most reacted to video on YTube, it's rather hard in my mind to comprehend that this was just not anything. It is considered one of the most outstanding live concert video ever shot, especially since it captures lighting in a bottle and the essence of the genius of Nightwish. Sure, you might like other songs better, music being subjective and all. Ever Dream is a delight as is Nemo from the same concert. For my own personal appreciation, it is driven by Floor who has recently been doing her own solo projects since about 2019. I heard her first singing a solo cover of Shallow on a show called Beste' Zangers and became a fan way before I ever heard of Nightwish. She is a master of her instrument and technically none better across different genre's. I've even heard her literally singing the phonebook on YTube

This live recording is from Wacken Open Air 2013, together with Floor Jansen [pronounced Yansen], the 3rd and present female singer of the band, in front of an 82K audience. About the instrumental and vocal added parts - it's good to know they recorded their orchestral and vocal back tracks with prestigious institutions as London Philharmonic Orchestra. London's The Metro Voices choir group and London's Young Musicians Children's Choir as their regular partners. Since this is your first Nightwish reaction, it is my duty to give you the [updated] short history of the band concentrated by Ann Waychoff, one of the biggest Nightwish fan who has since passed away (and I am doing this in her memory): " Nightwish was started in 1996.They are considered a Symphonic Metal band, with a female main singer. They are from Finland. Tuomas Holopainen [pronounced Tuo-mas], the keyboard player, composes and writes the lyrics for 95% of their music. [Sami Vanska was the bassist of the band starting with their 2nd studio album, he was with them until 2001. Then Marco Hietala was bassist and vocals, since 2001 to 2020. He recently announced his retirement both from the band and the public life for the next year at least. Then in May 2021 Jukka Koskinen [pronounced Yukka] became the bassist of the band, for the Human :II: Nature tour - and recently, the band announced he became a permanent member] And there is the guitarist Emppu Vuorinen [he also recorded the bass lines for their 1st studio album]. Great reaction. My first comment is concerning guitarist Emppu Vuorinen - he is a phenomenal musician and his playing always serves the song (he is not a showboat), but make no mistake, Emppu is highly technical and can shred with the best of them when the song calls for it. Nightwish is a very deep rabbit hole, where every song is different with unexpected twists and turns. Virtuoso musicians, a genius songwriter (Tuomas, the keyboard player whom many call the "metal Mozart" who is a master of emotion and melody), and the best lead singer alive today (Floor Jansen can sing anything, from operatic highs to full metal growls). Bassist Marco also has one of the best metal voices of all time (especially when he sings harmony with Floor - it is pure gold). I don't think I can say this about any other band, but I've never heard a bad song from them (at least not live with Floor). The keyboard player (Tuomas Holopainen, who also composes the music and writes the lyrics) is using Korg synthesizer only. For this specific tour he used three keyboards on stage, all hidden behind that pipe prop. The background orchestra parts have been arranged by Pip Williams, who is sometimes called the invisible member of Nightwish. Holopainen plays as many instruments with the keyboard as possible to do live, but part of the music is live recording from the orchestra. The band plays to a click track to stay in sync.
Ok, I will admit, I was wrong about how I perceived your reaction would be. I saw "rapper" and assumed you would be like " nice voice, cool, the end." Sometimes, I think the same way because I feel like when they hear the words 'rock' and 'metal', they automatically won't like it. Though I do know they appreciate lyrics so I bet they will have fun with Nightwish songs.
Actually I look specifically for "rapper" or "hip-hop head" reactions to Nightwish :) Like, you KNOW vocal coaches, musicians, engineers and metalheads are gonna love it. There's no contest. But there's actually something special about people from other scenes reacting to Nightwish for the first time and being so impressed and totally vibing to it.
That's one thing I've always liked about people reacting to Floor. It rarely matters what kind of music they are into, they are usually in awe of her when they hear her sing.

Empuu is an awesome guitar player, he plays for the song, not for his ego, which is so cool. Every Nightwish song is so different and just showcases all the different levels each musician (including Floor) can do. Love Floor a lot, the she tells a story with every word of every song is just magical! Just saw them live on Monday and it was the fucking best Night ever :D
Indeed. Emppu can do almost any kind of solo, versatility is his superpower. But Nightwish leave egos at the door, so everyone does exactly what's needed to make the song perfect. Sometimes it's more about mad technique, sometimes about getting the tone and feeling just right. If you want to hear Emppu shred you need to pick some heavier Nightwish song. Something like Romanticide or Yours Is An Empty Hope.

Good one. That was the 13th song of 15 they did try any other, Story Time, Ever Dream, Song Of Myself, Ghost River, Nemo etc. The show was Floors introduction as the new singer to the European fans, she became a full member of the band a couple of months after.

I believe I first hear them 23 years ago. It blew my mind. Music wasn't as easily accessible as now. I had mostly listened to what was on the radio up until then, or vinyl records from my family. This band opened my mind, and I loved it. We just got the internet at home about that time too. So I've been obsessed with finding new, and unique music since then. A lot of people have no idea how vast it is. They were on a Nuclear Blast DVD. That's the record company. It had music videos of different bands on their label. I ran across it in a used music store. I've never been a fan of the 'metal growling' as well as full screams since I prefer to be able to understand what's being sung (without having to look up the lyrics), so while they also sing 'normally', Unleash the Archers are pretty much out for me... But for something fairly comparable, I'd suggest Beyond the Black instead 😊

Emppu the guitar player can play anything that is needed for the music, the whole band is the most talented musicians you'll ever come across, with tuomas holopainen the keyboard player writes the music then floor sings a lot of time with marco the bass player who is called the grandfather of Finnish metal God bless
Great reaction man! This is my favorite band of all time and this is in my opinion their best song. The guys behind the keyboard is Tuomas Holopainen. He writes and composes over 90% of their songs. He is a lyrical genius and I highly suggest that you do some deep dives into some of their songs. Also, their singer, Floor Jansen is the best vocalist of her generation in my opinion. Her ability to hit and sustain notes are second to none. But what truly makes her the greatest is her versatility. She can sing any style and even switch styles mid phrase. She actually did that after those staccato notes. She switched from a operatic setup to a rock setups on the words “bring me home”. This ability lets her paint with her voice in a way that moves me in a way that no other musician can. And their guitarist, Empuu Vuorinen is phenomenal. His strength is that he always serves the song. His solos are always very appropriate and precise. He can find the perfect tone for any situation and really set the mood.
Behind the pipes facade are three Korg synthesizers, which are used by Tuomas (founder/composer). Emppu (guitar) can shred if the song calls for it, however he usually plays the melody instead of blasting a bunch of meaningless notes. 😊🤘

If you go to a Nightwish gig, trying to keep tabs on Emppu (guitarist) is nigh on impossible. He floats around the stage and it's more like 'where's Wally'. But, when it's time to perform he's there, on point, and never misses a beat. Even if he's being chased around the stage by Floor trying to get him to dance! He's quite nimble. Check out his solo in Romanticide from the same Wacken 2013 show as this song for one of his more technical breaks. Not to mention more great vocals from Floor, and also Marko; the bassist.

The guitarist is not really playing a guitar solo here, at least not how people understand that term in rock music. He is playing the same melody that the singer was singing just before, with very slight modifications. So the guitar is just one instrument playing the composition here, playing what the composer wanted to be played. However, they have others song where the guitarist is playing real rock guitar solos with some shredding, but still doing what the song needs, not just to show his skills. Btw, the link to the original video is to "End of an Era (2005)" concert video. And the video you watched is from Wacken 2013.

It's obvious though you do like good music from all genres as you state. Like most people I would recommend 'Storytime' or 'Romanticide' from the same Wacken concert for a next reaction, and perhaps 'yours is an empty hope' from Live at Wembley after that.

There's also a sixth member not on this track, Troy Donneckly, he's from the Uk yay so am I he plays the Uilleann pipes amongst a lot of other instruments, so some of there music has a celtic vibe too, an example of this is I want my tears back, if you want to see a different side check that song out live from Buenos Aries, the audience participation is mental. Floor Jansen that you just heard sing is married to the drummer of Sabaton They write music mostly to real historic events. Mainly war. And their music videos are insane. I will make a request here to their song "Bismarck". Germanys largest battle ship during WW2. That song and video are epic. And please more Nightwish. You can´t go wrong with Nightwish. Hahahahaha.

If you want to see more of the guitarist, check cover of "High Hopes" by this band. Apart from very cool solo: the drummer did not feel well that day. And there is that moment when the guitarist goes and checks the situation. Emppu can shred: it is obvious in e.g. such songs as Romanticide of e.g. Shudder before the beautiful, Getshemane is kind of not so grand, but only kind of.
A performance I really like is Dente's Inferno by Iced Earth. Specifically from the Alive In Athens show. Matt Barlow is one of my favorite male metal singers. I just really like his tone, and falsetto. Also I really like the story it's based off of.

I find it interesting, your comment of the music being "Bi-polar" though I somehow doubt you'd sit through a movie and say about the musical score and say the same thing. And speaking of this being a score and your somewhat expectations of the guitar solo not being Stevie Ray shredding, it carried the melody of this piece forward into the interlude. Not much shredding going on in Tuomas' compositions.
Do appreciate you allowing yourself to enjoy your floorgasm to completion and not pausing.
I do want to address on comment made that was uttered over enthusiastically - "Hey, you haven't seen or heard anything yet," when actually you've just reacted to the most reacted to video on YTube, it's rather hard in my mind to comprehend that this was just not anything. It is considered one of the most outstanding live concert video ever shot, especially since it captures lighting in a bottle and the essence of the genius of Nightwish. Sure, you might like other songs better, music being subjective and all. Ever Dream is a delight as is Nemo from the same concert.
For my own personal appreciation, it is driven by Floor who has recently been doing her own solo projects since about 2019. I heard her first singing a solo cover of Shallow on a show called Beste' Zangers and became a fan way before I ever heard of Nightwish. She is a master of her instrument and technically none better across different genre's. I've even heard her literally singing the phonebook on YTube

Welcome to the world of symphonic metal! And thank you for checking this legendary band! This live recording is from Wacken Open Air 2013, together with Floor Jansen [pronounced Yansen], the 3rd and present female singer of the band, in front of an 82K audience.
About the instrumental and vocal added parts - it's good to know they recorded their orchestral and vocal back tracks with prestigious institutions as London Philharmonic Orchestra. London's The Metro Voices choir group and London's Young Musicians Children's Choir as their regular partners.
Since this is your first Nightwish reaction, it is my duty to give you the [updated] short history of the band concentrated by Ann Waychoff, one of the biggest Nightwish fan who has since passed away (and I am doing this in her memory):
" Nightwish was started in 1996.They are considered a Symphonic Metal band, with a female main singer. They are from Finland.
Tuomas Holopainen [pronounced Tuo-mas], the keyboard player, composes and writes the lyrics for 95% of their music. [Sami Vanska was the bassist of the band starting with their 2nd studio album, he was with them until 2001. Then Marco Hietala was bassist and vocals, since 2001 to 2020. He recently announced his retirement both from the band and the public life for the next year at least. Then in May 2021 Jukka Koskinen [pronounced Yukka] became the bassist of the band, for the Human :II: Nature tour - and recently, the band announced he became a permanent member] And there is the guitarist Emppu Vuorinen [he also recorded the bass lines for their 1st studio album]. Then there is Troy Donockley from UK who is a multi-instrumentalist and vocals. Jukka Nevalainen [pronounced Yukka] is the drummer. In 2015 due to Jukka's health issues Kai Hahto became the drummer and as of now is a permanent addition.
Nightwish has had three singers. 1st one was Tarja Turunen [pronounced Tarr-ya] (Operatic vocals). She was with them until 2005. The 2nd one was Anette Olzon from Sweden (Poppy, strong vocals). She was with them until 2012.The 3rd and current singer is Floor Jansen, from Netherlands (power, operatic, soprano.....most versatile) - you just heard her.
There are live concerts that you should use depending on what era. From Wishes to Eternity and End of an Era (Tarja), Montreux Festival live 2012 and Exit Festival (Anette), Live at Wacken 2013, Live at Wembley, Live at Tampere, Vehicle of Spirit, Decades live (Floor). I hope this helps.

Great reaction. My first comment is concerning guitarist Emppu Vuorinen - he is a phenomenal musician and his playing always serves the song (he is not a showboat), but make no mistake, Emppu is highly technical and can shred with the best of them when the song calls for it. Nightwish is a very deep rabbit hole, where every song is different with unexpected twists and turns. Virtuoso musicians, a genius songwriter (Tuomas, the keyboard player whom many call the "metal Mozart" who is a master of emotion and melody), and the best lead singer alive today (Floor Jansen can sing anything, from operatic highs to full metal growls). Bassist Marco also has one of the best metal voices of all time (especially when he sings harmony with Floor - it is pure gold). I don't think I can say this about any other band, but I've never heard a bad song from them (at least not live with Floor). And above all: prove how wrong radio stations are to ignore this great music.
The keyboard player (Tuomas Holopainen, who also composes the music and writes the lyrics) is using Korg synthesizer only. For this specific tour he used three keyboards on stage, all hidden behind that pipe prop. The background orchestra parts have been arranged by Pip Williams, who is sometimes called the invisible member of Nightwish. Holopainen plays as many instruments with the keyboard as possible to do live, but part of the music is live recording from the orchestra. The band plays to a click track to stay in sync.
Ok, I will admit, I was wrong about how I perceived your reaction would be. I saw "rapper" and assumed you would be like " nice voice, cool, the end." Sometimes, I think the same way because I feel like when they hear the words 'rock' and 'metal', they automatically won't like it. Though I do know they appreciate lyrics so I bet they will have fun with Nightwish songs.
Actually I look specifically for "rapper" or "hip-hop head" reactions to Nightwish :) Like, you KNOW vocal coaches, musicians, engineers and metalheads are gonna love it. There's no contest. Indeed. Emppu can do almost any kind of solo, versatility is his superpower.
But Nightwish leave egos at the door, so everyone does exactly what's needed to make the song perfect. Sometimes it's more about mad technique, sometimes about getting the tone and feeling just right.
If you want to hear Emppu shred you need to pick some heavier Nightwish song. Something like Romanticide or Yours Is An Empty Hope.

Good one. That was the 13th song of 15 they did try any other, Story Time, Ever Dream, Song Of Myself, Ghost River, Nemo etc. The show was Floors introduction as the new singer to the European fans, she became a full member of the band a couple of months after.

I believe I first hear them 23 years ago. It blew my mind. Music wasn't as easily accessible as now. I had mostly listened to what was on the radio up until then, or vinyl records from my family. This band opened my mind, and I loved it. We just got the internet at home about that time too. So I've been obsessed with finding new, and unique music since then. A lot of people have no idea how vast it is. They were on a Nuclear Blast DVD. That's the record company. It had music videos of different bands on their label. I ran across it in a used music store. Just FYI, that’s about 70 minutes into the show, and Floor had been killin’ it the whole way already. Also, that’s 82 THOUSAND people hanging on her every word; so, no pressure on her to Bury that (9 second long)high note.... At 6’1 and 170 pounds Floor is a smiling, singing, dancing, enchanting, stage commanding Valkyrie Goddess, and to me at least, a gift from above. Seeing the whole video of this concert, Especially the Floorgasm changed my life. It made me start listening to music again. I've never been a fan of the 'metal growling' as well as full screams since I prefer to be able to understand what's being sung (without having to look up the lyrics), so while they also sing 'normally', Unleash the Archers are pretty much out for me... But for something fairly comparable, I'd suggest Beyond the Black instead 😊

Great reaction man! This is my favorite band of all time and this is in my opinion their best song.
The guys behind the keyboard is Tuomas Holopainen. He writes and composes over 90% of their songs. He is a lyrical genius and I highly suggest that you do some deep dives into some of their songs.
Also, their singer, Floor Jansen is the best vocalist of her generation in my opinion. Her ability to hit and sustain notes are second to none. But what truly makes her the greatest is her versatility. She can sing any style and even switch styles mid phrase. She actually did that after those staccato notes. She switched from a operatic setup to a rock setups on the words “bring me home”. This ability lets her paint with her voice in a way that moves me in a way that no other musician can.
And their guitarist, Empuu Vuorinen is phenomenal. His strength is that he always serves the song. His solos are always very appropriate and precise. He can find the perfect tone for any situation and really set the mood.
Behind the pipes facade are three Korg synthesizers, which are used by Tuomas (founder/composer). Emppu (guitar) can shred if the song calls for it, however he usually plays the melody instead of blasting a bunch of meaningless notes. 😊🤘

My favorite guitar solo is still on Comfortably Numb by Pink Floyd. Pure emotion. It definitely doesn't have to be flashy to be amazing.

If you go to a Nightwish gig, trying to keep tabs on Emppu (guitarist) is nigh on impossible. He floats around the stage and it's more like 'where's Wally'. But, when it's time to perform he's there, on point, and never misses a beat. Even if he's being chased around the stage by Floor trying to get him to dance! He's quite nimble. Check out his solo in Romanticide from the same Wacken 2013 show as this song for one of his more technical breaks. Not to mention more great vocals from Floor, and also Marko; the bassist.

The guitarist is not really playing a guitar solo here, at least not how people understand that term in rock music. He is playing the same melody that the singer was singing just before, with very slight modifications. So the guitar is just one instrument playing the composition here, playing what the composer wanted to be played. However, they have others song where the guitarist is playing real rock guitar solos with some shredding, but still doing what the song needs, not just to show his skills.
Btw, the link to the original video is to "End of an Era (2005)" concert video. And the video you watched is from Wacken 2013.

Nightwish army reporting from Belgium. Great reaction, and nice to see it from someone originating from a different genre (albeit one that did some great crossovers with rock). It's obvious though you do like good music from all genres as you state. Like most people I would recommend 'Storytime' or 'Romanticide' from the same Wacken concert for a next reaction, and perhaps 'yours is an empty hope' from Live at Wembley after that.

Thanks for your reaction to this amazing band, bi polar is a good way of describing them if you continue on the journey you will be so suprised, Emmpu the guitarist always does what's required for the particular song as you will find out. There's also a sixth member not on this track, Troy Donneckly, he's from the Uk yay so am I he plays the Uilleann pipes amongst a lot of other instruments, so some of there music has a celtic vibe too, an example of this is I want my tears back, if you want to see a different side check that song out live from Buenos Aries, the audience participation is mental. If you want to see more of the guitarist, check cover of "High Hopes" by this band. Apart from very cool solo: the drummer did not feel well that day. And there is that moment when the guitarist goes and checks the situation. Emppu can shred: it is obvious in e.g. such songs as Romanticide of e.g. Shudder before the beautiful, Getshemane is kind of not so grand, but only kind of.
His Romanticide solo is sick, and he really kills it in Song of Myself. I also like what he does in 7 Days to the Wolves
A performance I really like is Dente's Inferno by Iced Earth. Specifically from the Alive In Athens show. Matt Barlow is one of my favorite male metal singers. I just really like his tone, and falsetto. Also I really like the story it's based off of.

As someone who is very familiar with and a fan of both Stevie Ray Vaughn and Nightwish I really appreciated the way you compared/contrasted Stevie and Empuu.
