How to Reset/Troubleshoot Kwikset SmartCode 913

One of the steps you can take to troubleshoot your Kwikset SmartCode 913 is to reset it.
Also, if you've lost your code or want to remove all existing codes and add new codes, you'll need to reset the lock to remove all existing codes, so you can add new codes

FYI You dont need to remove the entire chassis, just the plastic cover.

i am having issues. i can lock the lock using the code, but the code will not unlock it.

I followed the steps, but I’m not getting the beep from the program button that allows new codes to be entered. Also the 0000 and the 1234 don’t seem to work as master codes. Anything I try makes the keypad flash red 3 times.

Hi there,
I'm sorry to hear that. It sounds like you're missing something -- 0000 or 1234 doesn't work for this lock (Kwikset SmartCode 913). It has no default Master/User Code.
Reset the lock, then run the door handing detection. Make sure the door handing is complete -- you should see the latch bolt move to the unlock/lock position, this shows the door handing is complete.
You can now add User Codes. Press the Program button once. Then quickly go to the keypad and enter your new code (4-8 digits) and press the Lock button.
Make sure you enter a new code within 3 seconds after pressing the Program button.
