The Night Circus remains visually vibrant in my mind after reading it over 4 years ago. Will definitely recommend, especially for people who enjoy graphic novels. The author is a graphic novelist and so she wrote her book in that kind of same vein.
I'm about to start reading The Starless Sea and The Night Circus is on its way to me in the mail so this is actually really helpful to know going in. Thank you!

This comment is the story of my life 😂😫 I'm always looking for a series like ACOTAR. The struggle is real. Have you tried The Bargainer series by Laura Thalassa? The first book is called Rhapsodic. It's a pretty good adult romance fantasy series with fae.

Hi! I am late to this but was so surprised Neil Gaiman did not make this list, especially Neverwhere and Stardust. Or Terry Pratchett and his Discworld novels for adults. Highly recommend. Especially any that contain Granny Weatherwax, like Wyrd Sisters or Lord and Ladies. Love their collaboration, Good Omens, good TV series but great book. If you like humorous fantasy set in the real world, some books by Tom Holt are fun.
The audio book for ‘the name of the wind’ is really brilliant :) all the voices are so well done. Defiantly check it out! I think the wise mans fear is 48 hours or something though!!!! (Still fabulous!)
I desperately need a YA fantasy break and wanted to get into adult fantasy. I’ve read a couple but I still don’t know what to read so thanks for the video. I now have a nice long to read list.
Could you tell me what, in your opinion, are the most important themes and things you find interesting in the farseer series? I'd like to read Robin Hobb but I read the first book and was really disappointed :( Well, not disappointed because I didn't really expect anything from it, all I knew was that my sister liked it and it was fantasy (genre i enjoy... in theory), it was just... Blah. So blah. I rated it 2 stars. It has been a while since I read it so I can't remember what exactly bothered me about it. Only thing I remember liking was the broodiness of the "mentor" type of guy at the stables. The writing wasn't the strongest. But wasn't assassin's apprentice her first book? Will the series get better and better? Should I try her other series if I found this one boring? Is her worldbuilding interesting?
@@xx011 Yes, the worldbuilding is fantastic. But I think the characters are the best. Fitz is of course very young in the first book and sometimes he makes choices that you really can't understand, but that is what makes him so real. I don't know what you would think of her other series. The Liveship trilogy is the only other series I have read besides the farseer, The Tawny Man and Fitz and the Fool (which are all about Fitz) but I love that as well. (And they connect to each other in the later books, in ways that you might not realize when reading the Liveship triology before the later Fitz books). I just feel the characters and worlds are so rich and realistic (in lack of a better word). Everyone has their good and bad sides and they are anything but predictable.
@@xx011 I started reading her Rain Wild series because it's about Dragons. People said the order didn't matter much and I didn't really care to read the other series. But now that I read those 4 I'm reading the Elderling Series from the beginning. I wanna see how it all ties together.
Jonathan Strange and Mr Norrell. It’s true magicians don’t practice magic but write it down, but Strange and Norrell bring back actual magic, which kickstarts more people doing magic!! The Raven King was extremely powerful a few centuries before and there’s a lot of power still in England that centres around the Raven king. It’s a brilliant book. It’s long. There’s an unbelievable amount of details in it (with a lot of keynotes) it’s very clever though.
Jade City is soooooo good, omg 🤩🤩🤩🤩 The pacing is amazing, the story grips you immediately, and the characters are amazing! The magic system is very interesting, and the promise of the world expanding in the second book is just *chef's kiss*
I read the first Mistborn book and then went straight to Stormlight... I actually took very well to it! It’s a fantastic series and it’s just what I wanted at the time! Cannot wait for more of the series!
Perfect timing, I've been wanting more adult fantasy reads and I just added a whole bunch of these to my list! I'm so excited you included Priory of the Orange Tree. It is one of my favorite books of all time!!! I can't recommend it strongly enough.
This was a great video. I marked a few to be read. I do have to say I loved the Sarah J. Maas book so, so much. I struggle a lot with fantasy and I read that one in two days. It just blew me away. I highly recommend it.
I’ve read a number of these and would definitely recommend Robin Hobb, Scott Lynch, Patrick Rothfuss and Brandon Sanderson. Also own a number of these that are on my TBR! The one author that was missing from your list that I always recommend is John Gwynne - Malice the first book in the Faithful and Fallen series has a 4.14 rating on Goodreads and I think his character work is some of the best you’ll read (I’ve just re-read it all again and still cried so many times!) I have got so many people into this series, so highly, highly recommend.
You make it very hard not to spend money on books! Just ordered the 10th anniversary addition “The Name Of The Wind” on your recommendation! Excited to read it, it’s been on my list for a while! And the 10th an book is gorgeous!!!! Thank you!!
I think a lot of people won't try crescent city because it's SJM who is so hyped and I get it I'm sick of hearing about them too BUT I had never read an SJM book before until crescent city and omg it is now my all time favourite book! I cannot wait for the next one, I finished it and instantly had to film a review because I had so much to say and no one to talk to about it 😂 it is slow for the first 200 pages and very info dumpy but after that it really does make up for it and the action doesn't stop!
You described The Name of The Wind perfectly! I love the story but Kvothe can be arrogant ( most of the time !) That kind of put me off making it one of the best fantasies I've read !

can we have a rec list of sci -fi? long long video but i love it! personally love brandon sanderson the most and i cant wait to read all of these amazing books!
One that I don't hear people always recommending, is the one that got me started into Adult Fantasy - The Dark Tower. I normally don't like King's writing or his books' topics but man oh maaan this was amazing! Also, it's a finished series which is always great :D and "only" 7 books! It is a strange mix of things but it works so well. Got some of my friends hooked on it *regrets nothing*
i like everything stephen king, especially his writing. so when i got to the dark tower i had very high hopes. didnt like it at all :( but i only read one and a half books, maybe i have to give it another shot
Jonathan Strange and Mr. Norrell is fantastic and the footnotes are strangely (no pun intended) the best part. Susanna Clarke created an amazing history of magic which is told anecdotally mostly through those footnotes and they are unique as a world building tool in my reading experience. If you like it as much as I did there is a collection of short stories in the same universe (featuring more female leads) and a BBC television adaptation I also adored. Her second novel, Piranesi, just released and 15 years in the making, is sadly not a sequel and is much shorter. The author has battled a disease that makes her constantly fatigued. I am about to read it myself and it seems to be the perfect book about someone who's life is spent in solitude, released while Covid Quarantines are fresh in our memories and written by someone with a unique understanding of the topic. Enjoy!
Omg Cloud Road is.... I don't have the words but I think about the characters from this book ALOT. The character work relationship building and world building in the Raksura series is why I love to read. Highly underrated I recommend it to anyone watching this video.
Jonathan Strange and Mr. Norrell: Mr. Norrell is the last practicing magician in England. He's very full of himself, however doesn't have the charisma to pull it off. He takes on an apprentice, Jonathan Strange, whom he becomes very threatened by. He's talented, humble about his abilities, and charismatic. What ensues is a power play between the two until they are forced to work together towards the end to defeat a malintended Fae. It a beast of a book and much of the first half is focused on Mr. Norrell who is not meant to be a well-liked character, but stick with it. On audible it's 34(?) hours long if that gives you an idea of the length.
Nice recommendations. I would also love to see a video on scifi recommendations. I read a lot of great fantasy books, but scifi has been really hit and miss for me lately.
you probably have read this already, but Red Rising is one of my favorite trilogies of all time (it's actually coming up to two trilogies now, with book #6 in the making!), THOROUGHLY recommend it!:)
I started reading Brandon Sanderson by Warbringer and Mistborn and it was fine but i wasn't impressed. But Stormlight Archives.. Wow. One of my most favorite series of all times. So I recommend all my friends to start with this one :)
I’ve read Jonathan Strange and Mr. Norrell, but it was YEARS ago, so I don’t remember the answer to the question, but it WAS also adapted into a television show for the BBC/BBC America
I absolutely loved these recommendations (and whole heartedly agree with my own one that came up for The Rage of Dragons! ☺️) can never have enough amazing fantasy reads!
Jonathan Strange and Mr Norrel; basically there is only one real magician remaining: Mr Norrel. the others indeed just study the theory of it. But a new magician is starting to get a reputation: Jonathan Strange. It is a lot about their clash: kind of the clash of learning through study vs learning through practice if I remember correctly. But there is also a menacing power, sort of like a fae king in there and the final 300 pages are perfection. It is extremely slow though and I would've given up on it if it weren't for my friend telling me it would deliver in the end
This is pretty much a list of all the most hyped up fantasy books haha but it's also a good reminder to pick up some of these titles too. Omg! I love Name of the Wind too but I'm definitely a little scared to re-read it because of the same reason haha so I've kind of been avoiding a re-read of it for a few years now! Hope it still holds up when I eventually do, maybe when we actually have a solid release date for the third book lol! ^_^
I'm a little late but have you ever read anything by Robert A Heinlein? Stranger in a Strange Land is a must. It was published in 1961 but was truly ahead of its time. And, The Notebooks of Lazarus Long is a keeper. Glad finally found you!
I read Mistborn a few years ago, and then last year I started the Stormlight Archives.... and now I have no will to go back to Mistborn because for me Stormight Archives is SO MUCH BETTER haha!
Woaa cool just found yout channel and this video and....boom!!! You just blew my mind!!!! Love your style, the topic of discussion and your cat video bombing !!! Will definetely follow you!
I am so glad Logan liked Kings of the Wyld, because I felt bad that you didn't end up liking it when I recommended it to you so hard. Also, look, it's me! :) I'm so amused that this video mostly makes me want to re-read faves like KotW and Nevernight. Heh. Love this format of video, though, looking forward to the next in this series.
I can confirm that The First Law trilogy (The Blade Itself) is nothing like D&D in fact its very different to a lot of fantasy. Its Grimdark at its finest! 👍
Would you be willing to do a smut-free or at least low smut YA fantasy list? I generally prefer YA, but a lot of times I feel like the sex scenes detract from the story 😬
What YA books are you reading that contain smut? Genuinely curious. Pretty much all popular titles I've come across are fade to black or only contain very shallow descriptions.
@@beebee3021 the first that comes to mind for me is the Throne of Glass series. I guess you could technically say that it morphed from YA to New Adult (or YA with smut? Not sure of the terminology) halfway through the series, since the first 4 books are pretty tame. Also, the ACOTAR series. Idk maybe my issue is more that I like Sarah J. Maass' stories, but don't like the smut she includes lol
@@jethro4453 Hmm, I think her books are very mismarketed (well, they've finally rebranded ACOTAR at least. Hate the new covers, but at least they're not pretending that this is YA anymore lol) and also that she never really wanted to write YA. I believe she actually said she'll only write adult from now on.
do you get Christmas gifts for Momo and Zeus ? If so are they preplanned or just spur of the moment p.s. tell Logan Congratulations on Scotlands football win, I'm part Scottish so very proud !!

This is such a cute video, just what I needed! It feels so warm, love getting to see so many peoples opinions combined into a video
subscribing because you do closed captions (not automated) and i really appreciate that as a deaf person
So many good recommendations in this video! Still got to get to the City of Brass, Robin Hobb and Foundryside.
He came out with an 8th book a couple of years ago, but it didn't really feel like the other parts, but wasn't bad.
I had to force myself through the beginning, but then I liked the story. This was King's first, so he was just learning to write.
i like everything stephen king, especially his writing. so when i got to the dark tower i had very high hopes. didnt like it at all :( but i only read one and a half books, maybe i have to give it another shot
That’s some high praise! Makes me want to read it much more, thank you for sharing
@@BookRoast please do a review if you read it.
You sold me on The Name of The Wind! Hopefully that jump starts my commitment to finish a book! ✨🌸
Hope you’ll love it!
I would love to see one of these with ya fantasy. I've read a couple on this list but there's also quite a few that I need to read.
YA ones definitely coming too! 🥰
I miss a little bit The Black Magician trilogy by Trudi Canavan. I strongly recommend! :D
I agree how The House of the Cerulean Sea is oddly so relatable!
Yes The Stormlight Archives are Anazing!!!!
I agree! I read warbreaker first and was not very impressed, but stormlight archive blew me away
Where's The Wheel Of Time?😭 But I still LOVE this Video! Thank you
I don't usually read fantasy but I LOVED the lies of locke lamora! one of my favorite books of all time, so happy to see it come up in this video
Same!!! I adore that book with a passion. Some of my usernames on websites is “Lamora” for this reason 😂
I am currently reading The ninth house by Leigh Bardugo, great if you love the dark academia vibe but expect some darker themes
I NEED to get to assassin’s apprentice ASAP
Starting the cosmere with the stormlight archive is not ideal, I agree. There are many videos, though, that talk about the best reading orders.
I love these kinds of recommendation videos! Would like to see one for sci-fi or historical fiction too! 💚
Definitely will at least for sci-fi!! Haha
House of Earth and Blood is book 1 of the Crescent City duopoly. It is her second adult high fantasy novel set, the first being ACOTAR. @_@
This is such an amazing video idea and it was so much fun to watch! I would be very interested to see a YA sci-fi version of this 😁
All awesome! Just missing Mistborn.
You just always make your videos so cosy and friendly. Love to watch :)
Great list! I will add some of these to my TBR. I have read Jonathan Strange and Mr Norrell and really enjoyed it.
The Witches of Eileanan series by Kate Forsyth!! It’s so good!!
I want to read so many books in the new year! Hopefully 1 a week starting in 2022! My goal is 60 books next year!
I’m trying to find something that captivates me the way the Mortal Instruments and the other series did so I’m hoping these do the trick!
Hope so too, good luck! ☺️
This helped me so much! Love your video!
I'm a little late but have you ever read anything by Robert A Heinlein? Stranger in a Strange Land is a must. It was published in 1961 but was truly ahead of its time. And, The Notebooks of Lazarus Long is a keeper. Glad finally found you!
great selection, thank you for commenting on every book!
Maybe have a recommendation for adult science fiction
Definitely a lot of great recommendations! I actually have most of them on my tbr
I read Mistborn a few years ago, and then last year I started the Stormlight Archives.... and now I have no will to go back to Mistborn because for me Stormight Archives is SO MUCH BETTER haha!
Yeah til you get to Rythem of War and find out who Thytokar is.
@@Tbigdaddyicebrown omg I'm scared
@@Tbigdaddyicebrown but it might take me years to get there lmao
I love these videos! It’s so cool that you engage the community.
The gold moon cycle on the red edges of the bottom book in the thumbnail are so beautiful. Is that crescent city? Where did you get that version?
She paints at her book you could see that in her vlogs
I'm just amazed you have all the books. Some of those sound really good. Gotta go add these to my Goodreads now. 😉
I'm so amused that this video mostly makes me want to re-read faves like KotW and Nevernight. Heh. Love this format of video, though, looking forward to the next in this series.
Ursula Le’Guin, Genevieve Cogman, and Toni Morrison are amazing reads in adult fantasy!
Enjoyed the video. Love your glasses!!
I can confirm that The First Law trilogy (The Blade Itself) is nothing like D&D in fact its very different to a lot of fantasy. Its Grimdark at its finest! 👍
I thought the voyage in book 2 was pretty close to a quest-style D&D campaign. :)
Ahh I’ve been waiting for this one! Such great recommendations, thank you G!! And to everyone who sent you their favorites 🖤✨
I loved Crescent City! Thank you for the recommendations
Excellent video, I’ve read 7 of the books/book series on your list. 🥰
do you get Christmas gifts for Momo and Zeus ? If so are they preplanned or just spur of the moment p.s. tell Logan Congratulations on Scotlands football win, I'm part Scottish so very proud !!
Fingers crossed dragonlance is in this list as it's quintessential for any fantasy lovers library.
It's been a year but this was a fantastic reccomendation video!
i’m so happy Foundryside made it on the list!! such a great series I wish more people would read ☺️ (it also has a f/f romance)
I love these videos so much! I hope you keep doing them!
So many of my favorites are on this list and others that are on my tbr
Ooof definitely plan on it, I love hearing what others recommend and thank you for your recommendation too! 🥰
@@BookRoast please do scifi!
Thank you so much for this video! I would love to see some sci-fi reccomendations :)
