    I built a similar character who was warlock/bard and instead of using stunning strike as the “fatal save” he used a pseudodragon familiar with pact of the chain and the invocation which allows for you to use your spell save DC on its poison. While poison is often resisted or out right immune the poison has the chance to straight make the enemy incapacitated which is incredibly powerful and allows the build to come on earlier and is less MAD

    I have a challenge for you: THE FEAT FIGHTER. Make a Varient Human (or custom lineage) fighter without multiclassing or taking ASIs. Just feats all the way and see what you can do. Curious to see what you can do with it. Keep up the great videos!

      pam gwm 20 str at level 8 is probably a good idea

    • @torunsmok5890
      @torunsmok5890 2 года назад +5

      With point buy you'd only be able to hit 20str by level 8 without ASIs, always using feats, if you point buy up to 15 and went custom lineage with a +2 in STR and your freebie feat as a half feat with a +1 in strength starting with 18, and then you'd have to take 2 half feats with +1 on your way up to 8. 4, 6, and 8 are your ASIs though level 8 so that means you can only have 1 feat at level 8 that isn't a half feat. Neither GWM nor PAM is a half feat, so ya can get 20 STR or you can get both of them, but with the build challenge stated, you can't have all 3 by level 8. You'd have to give up either PAM or GWM or your 20str till higher level.

    • @Trial88
      @Trial88 2 года назад +1

      Honestly could do a version of the needler where you only do fighter levels with extra feats. Gunner obviously needed, sharpshooter, piercer, medium armor master for another dex based half feat. Really only need dex and con. Con not exactly needed, but staying alive is usually nice. This build idea was brought up and expanded upon on the subreddit with much better ideas than I had haha

    It really is amazing; with everything that's changed from the earliest editions to 5e; that some vestigial leftover still afflicts the Monk. I'm old enough to remember when Bards and Monks were appendices to the PHB (and Barbarian [and Cavalier] were "periodical classes"). Nobody knew what to do with the Monk then, and WotC still doesn't. They eventually figured out the Bard, but they still can't make medieval Bruce Lee workable.

    A title like the Fate Weaver makes me think of Zee Bashew's video with "Build Murray". I think it was a halfling divination wizard with the Lucky feat. That seems like the ultimate re roller to me. So I'm really happy that your build goes in a completely different direction. It's incredibly cool and I always appreciate your creativity when crafting these characters.
    I also really appreciate how you come up with a lot of story flavor for this particular character. It feels like I used to see a lot of videos about "how to play Obi-Wan Kenobi" or "how to play the Human Torch" or just in general "how to play ___ character" in the D&D system. So I really like that, while often your builds take influence from other media, you never try to build a specific character from other media. Thank you for all of the hard work you put into making content for us.

    My preferred support build is a Divine Soul 1 / Peace Domain 1 / College of Lore (or Eloquence) X. Instead of re-rolling dice, it functions by adding bonuses or penalties whose sheer magnitude essentially ensure a success or failure. I am playing it right now and I _loooove_ it!
    For example: If you cast Bless and use Emboldening Bond, that is an average of +5 to both hits and saves. Add Bardic Inspiration on top of that, and the average is anywhere from +8 to +11 when needed. And, of course, you can use the Ceremony spell to empower saving throws even more, but it's a one-time deal, so use it wisely.
    Alternatively, if you cast Bane and use either Mind Sliver or Vicious Mockery, that is a penalty of -5 to saves or -6 to attacks, on average. Then add on top of that Cutting Words (College of Lore) or Unsettling Words (College of Eloquence) and the penalties can _seriously_ change the fate of a combat encounter with a small group of very strong enemies.
    And if you play as a Halfling, you can take the Bountiful Luck feat to ensure your allies never suffer from those pesky 1's that negate all of your bonuses' utility. If your party has a lot of martial characters, I recommend going College of Lore, since Cutting Words will provide more utility than Unsettling Words if you are the only regular caster.
    Last point - as a Divine Soul, you can get access to Sanctuary as a Sorcerer spell, which is excellent for a Cha-based pacifist support caster. You won't need to break sanctuary often, especially if you are using the Bless strategy instead of the Bane strategy, and it can allow you to stay safe without needing heavy armor or high Dexterity. Saving throws will suffer if you have middling Dexterity, but Favored by the Gods can help compensate for that (if combined with Bless and Emboldening Bond, you can expect a +10 bonus to any single saving throw on average!)

    As skeptical ass I was going into this, by the midway point I was fully invested in the fantasy of being a character who could bend the fates of those around me. Guiding reality to its best conclusion.
    I would absolutely go with the drunken soothsayer if I played this. I would also personally go with a Drunken Master subclass. A bit more MAD, but more fun a thematic abilities. Drunkards luck (lvl 11) would fit right in by allowing you to roll without disadvantage.
    I also enjoy how appropriate Evasion is, with the idea that you can see the future as why your dodge is supernatural.

I rolled up a grave cleric months ago that I basically went into going ‘I’m going to support everyone and no one is gonna die’. Doesn’t mean I haven’t picked up spiritual weapon or spirit guardians. I love support characters. My honourable mentions on this build type go to lvl 1 Clockwork Sorcerer (Restore Balance, scales with proficiency and matches better with Bard charisma) and lvl 6 Grave Cleric (Sentinel at Death's Door, scales with wisdom and matches better with Monk wisdom). The build loses your stunning strike idea with the Bard-Sorcerer, if you skip Monk altogether, but there are some pretty impressive control spells in there.
    I went (not necessarily in this order) Clockwork Sorcerer 1, Eloquence Bard 8 or 9, Divination Wizard 2, Grave Cleric 8 or 9, because I like magic... a lot.

    I used to play a Tiefling Warlock, whom the DM gave an item that could rewrite time - once per long rest, as a reaction when he took damage, he could negate that damage and teleport up to 30ft away, flavoured as the attack never took place and he was in the new location the whole time.
    I played it like the character (and rest of the party) never knew it was happening. He'd just panic and unconsciously cause it to happen as a reflex, and of course once it had happened, that's the way the timeline had always been.

This was nice because, as you said in your build, it frees up some ability scores. I went for Shadow Magic Sorcerer (for Hound of Ill Omen and CON save proficiency) and College of Eloquence Bard. I focused more on save-or-suck spells and I think it works out quite nicely.

    This build is so similar to a character I have currently. The only major difference is that I did not take any monk levels, there was already a monk in the party. I even dumped con like he was talking about lol. I actually based my character off of Saul Goodman in Breaking Bad and Better Call Saul. My character is a sleazy halfling with palpable charisma and a ridiculous luck streak. The goal of my character is to have him become a powerful noble, he is currently a count. He is level 16, and an absolute nightmare for the DM when it comes to saving throws against save-or-suck spells. I made him especially weak in combat, 6 in con, because I wanted to fear getting hit as the character doesn't like to fight, but prefers to manipulate and subtly convince.

    This video inspired me to try to brew my own debuffer/CC guy with the same core concept
    I noticed something
    Why stun when you can knock enemies unconscious?
    Entertain me for a moment
    Instead of monk, we put 3 levels into Undead warlock, warlock helps a lot in fixing the MAD issues of this build and get 20 cha asap, lets you fear every turn while doing decent damage with eldritch blast, get the invocation to give you advantage on concentration checks (REALLY GOOD) and, most importantly, pact of the chain
    If you get a pseudo dragon or, a favorite of mine, a sprite. Those, when you attack with them, make the enemy do a con save or get poisoned (which is neat utility and lets you fear other units for the duration for good control) BUT if they fail by 5 or more, very possible with bane + unsettling words, they fall unconscious
    That's completely shutting down an enemy without using much resources
    Of course we take investment of the chain master to make the con save 17+
    You can make enemies, one by one, fall like flies
    Then the party gets to pick off enemies one by one, the first hit being a crit if within 5 feet, and they're still poisoned
    This way you can up your con by a lot rather than dumping it, shut down key enemies, all while providing the benefits of this build
    Bane sticks easier, you get to put more levels into bard making your insp die bigger, all while fearing, poisoning, and, when you want, make enemies go unconscious
    Portent is very powerful with this too
    Though Undead gives us more HP, our AC is still lower, but lots of benefits here

I imagine I'd play him as like almost a Gollum creature that has almost been driven mad by seeing behind the veil into the "true" reality of the branching web of fate, maybe by a deity like the Raven Queen. Race: Mark of Healing Halfing. 1 level into clockwork soul sorcery for Restore Balance then 1 level into Order Domain Cleric for Voice of Authority, cleric spells, and medium armor and shield proficiency. Then back to sorcery until level 7 for Bastion of Law, picking up twinned and quickened meta magics, bountiful luck feat, and Magical Guidance on the way. Then 3 levels into fighter (Protection fighting style) to get Battlemaster with Commander's Strike, Rally, Maneuvering strike. After level 10, you really can go anywhere. 1 more into Cleric for channel divinity? More sorcery levels for Trance of Order and higher level sorcery spells? More fighter for more of a front liner healer? Also the combo of Bloodwell Vial with Bastion of Law is nuts. Try this out and tell me what you think!!

    One 2nd level variation thats an action that simply gives advantage and disadvantage to the next ability check, saving throw, or attack roll an ally and enemy make respectively.
    One 3rd level variation that keeps the reaction but switches the advantage for the same wording as the first part, that being (if they fail an attack roll, saving throw, or ability check {in the next minute}, they roll an extra dice and choose the highest)
    Also, your voice is like smooth butter, its great.

  • @New_Definitions
    @New_Definitions Год назад +1

    I thought you might go the route of Shadow Sorcerer/ Eloquence bard/ diviner wizard. You would be much less MAD
    I think you probably should have mentioned the mind-sliver cantrip in this build as you can cast it to debuff saving throws by 1d4 until the END of your next turn (so you can set yourself up for the next turn's save or suck spell). This is even better if paired with bane and a sorcerer's quickened meta magic to enforce a 2d4 negative to saving throws which you can make even worse with a bard's unsettling words or silvery barbs. If you did the build including sorcerer then bane + a twinned save or suck spell is an excellent combo for control as well.
    I'd also be tempted to go for a pact of the chain familiar with investment of the chain master. The warlock-only familiars have some nasty effects that are great when you can force them to massively fail the save. Applying unconscious and poisoned in a single turn against your spell save DC without using a spell slot is awesome. With the sprite, you can argue as well for being able to equip it with magical items as they should resize to fit it.

    With Tasha's, Paralyzed becomes easier to inflict with the Summon Undead Spirit (putrid), but it doesn't work on enemies immune to the poisoned condition.
    The go-to strategy is to hold the putrid's attack until the enemy rolls their con save against the aura (your spell save dc), if they fail the save they are poisoned, and then your putrid attacks with advantage and if they hit the enemy rolls another con save (your spell save dc) and if they fail they become paralyzed until the end of their NEXT turn (skipping 2 turns).
    a warlock with pact of the chain and the Investment of the Chain Master invocation can command their Sprite familiar to attack before putrid and try to poison the enemy again (another con save against your spell save dc). Mercy monk lvl 6 can cause the poisoned condition on a hit with no save, but that is more of a team up than a multiclass cause it would be MAD as heck.

Plus I had silvery barbs to force them to reroll the save in case they succeeded.
