@@KakosXronos THANK YOU, Eleana, for gently alerting people to this series by one of the most uncompromising, un-compromised, and clear-headed long-form journalists of our day. Take note, new readers of Whitney Webb's stellar reporting: you are in for a reckoning. Read everything she's written. [The following comments are my opinions and not Whitney Webb's, though I believe them to be supported in fact and in spirit by her work.] Please demand that the subjects she covers become part of our central civic dialog. Recognize that the media syndicates and tech oligopolies that produce 'journalism' to manufacture your consent are total frauds for their inability to even recognize her work, let alone acknowledge the subjects she discusses, and their lucid relations. She's on the verge, like so many independent journalists and researchers, of being threatened with de-platforming and active suppression as we speak, under the facile (woke?) justification that only Silicon Valley or Washington has the wisdom and capacity to determine truth from lies, and so only serve their own interests in shaping the image of reality. The horrible ironic tragedy of Eric Weinstein being the only public intellectual with the empathy, honesty, and temerity to talk openly about this - and he should be highly praised for do it - is that it was HIS boss's conspiracy of suppression that has, at least, partially set the stage for this state of affairs. Thiel's petty and thin-skinned retaliation for being outed, which crushed the leading indie muckraking rag of its day, Gawker Media, is a huge contributing factor to shaping the gaslit echo chamber we inhabit. And we are now at the moment when humanity and civil liberties really need vibrant institutions like Gawker to challenge the creeping authoritarianism, but they don't exist or they have been captured and brought to heel. Take note of what happened between Greenwald and the Intercept last week, and don't get swept up in the partisan circus surrounding it, or you'll miss the point that really matters to you and your free thought. On the most basic level, we either choose whistleblowers and their fresh air, regardless of what it says about our heroes, or we chose corruption and its tyranny. The creeping regime of total censorship and absolute thought control that confronts us can only be reckoned with if we collectively steel ourselves and remove the blinders we've up to now consented to wear. The intelligence agencies don't work for us - they never have. They and their sponsors have been at war with us and our representative systems of government since their inception. Whatever forces that they represent have been running the US government for decades, at least since JFK's assassination. With the martyrdom of Michael Hastings as the inflection point, and the degradation of Smith-Mundt Act that he exposed and echoed, the total domination of domestic society became their overt target. Read further into Webb's work on the CoronaVirus, among many other things, and you will begin to see that Jeffrey Epstein was hardly a bug; he was a prominent feature at the nexus of intelligence, entrenched organized crime, and oligarchic avarice under the guise of 'philanthropy'. Epstein can't be written off as a mere protege of Robert Maxwell. It was Maxwell's trojan horse software that infected and infiltrated our nation's most classified labs and institutions. It was his government that has imposed a total taboo on any criticism or circumspection about it. As we enter the "Second Wave" Lockdowns and the sweeping reforms that will surely follow, without a robust and defensible 1st and 4th amendment (for individuals) that can realistically be upheld in the digital realm, and total transparency (for governments, banks, corporate syndicates and oligarchs) in the years to come, the only vision of A.I. that will manifest - whichever nation helms it - it will be an unrelenting dystopian future. We write off Epstein - as an outlier, a mere pervert, or an isolated expression of Evil - at our free society's existential peril. (If that sounds like a metaphor to you, take a look around you - there's a global pandemic bringing whole economies to their knees, all on the pretense of throw-away mortality rates, and no reliable information feedback loops to reconcile simple claims and their proportions.) Pedophilia and the cycle of violence it engenders are surely evil, there is no doubt. This is way beyond that. This is pedophilia weaponized by the most sociopathic and powerful among us, with the complicity and protection of governments, for political and technological blackmail of the most high-achieving, capable, and intelligent among us, so as to ensure the total control of society on a global scale. That is not hyperbole. It is the simple truth. It does not end with a "suicide" and a jailed madam, and the next shiny spectacle in the news cycle. Thanks Eric and Lex for continuing this conversation. Great insights Eric. Intrepid truth-telling. Both of you please consider promoting Webb's work publicly and encouraging others to look seriously at our unfolding world. We can survive these challenges by accepting that they exist.
@@727MeowMeow thanks for bringing this up Poppy! I know Ryan Dawson but prefer to first share Whitney's website with people because it is a more gentle lifting of the veil and introduction to the subject...the descent into the rabbit hole should be a gradual process, otherwise people are quick to judge and label certain narratives (as programmed) thus leading them to discredit them and never bothering to dig more...speaking from personal experience here! Most importantly we need to remind ourselves to be careful and never generalize, ie. blaming a whole group of people (eg. It's "the Jews") etc. Not only this is dangerous and truly antisemitic but it also helps the actual criminals further advance the agenda of labeling any legitimate criticism of the state of Israel as antisemitism... Peace and love everyone! We need to stay united to win this battle!
@Bill be careful with these generalizations you make... Don't fall into their trap of divide and conquer. This is not about all Jewish people; the everyday Jewish family is a normal family just like yours, trying to get by the struggles of life. I have many Jewish friends whom I love and respect and they have nothing to do with the epsteins of the world, nor do they condone the apartheid state. Just like you are not your government, their ideologies are also not represented by theirs!
@Bill there are a number of generalities being combined here, about race and religion, and in particular about people Judaism is not and technically cannot be strictly identical with Zionism. That is, Zionism in all its forms including using sources external to the Bible (Tanakh) to justify 'religious' ideas that specifically teach the opposite of any comprehensive reading of what the Jewish (i.e. Old Testament) Bible explains on these matters is not inalienably 'Jewish'. You are talking about what is known by its own adherents as Zionism, this is a very different category from all things generally identified as Jewish (and which to note also consists of necessary categories, i.e. Jewish in a religious sense or an ethical sense) Judaism specifically teaches Israelites to recognise and understand, and thus to love the stranger as they would understand and love themselves (the concept of love is to understand and thus care for one another even as we are all in some sense confounded in the human condition at this time) But the stranger that dwelleth with you shall be unto you as one born among you, and thou shalt love him as thyself; for ye were strangers in the land of Egypt: I am the LORD your God. (Leviticus 19:34)
Lex altogether winds me up with how naive he is despite his intelligence. Calling it optimism is kind but basically a lie because real optimism requires a strong grasp of reality and he simply does not have it. I would love to be as sharp as he is but not at the cost of understanding how the real world works. He’s in good company though, the scales will hopefully fall away soon

Eric's words about conspiracy are incredibly powerful and eloquent. I've returned to this portion of the interview over and over again. Lex took an idiotic position, in earnest, and to his great credit; and it perfectly facilitated Eric's rejoinder. The radioactivity around the word conspiracy is madness. Yes, the thought of a malevolent plot can be very, very scary, but it must be faced and it must be called out. Evil must be named.
His words are dumb. Silence between hundreds of unconnected scientists must be a conspiracy because 26 Mossad agents coordinated to assassinate someone. Evil, if it's just in your mind, must NOT be named. Conspiracies deserve attention IF someone is ready to drop it the moment its contradicted by evidence and if they make clear to everyone that it's just conjecture.

I met Jeffrey Epstein in NYC along with Jean when I was a fashion student. It was a short but very strange exchange just outside the NY stock exchange. I had a polaroid camera on me as we were going to tour the fashion district that day. Jeffrey stopped me on the street and said I must be a "model" I had NO idea who this older man was as I was just 18 and this was 1991. I indeed did do print model work from middle school through H.S. along with fashion shows and looked VERY young for my age. Younger than 18 for certain and I'm over 50 now. This is a current profile pic from this year. I age slow. My whole family does as we are all RH negatives. Just a side effect I guess? Good genetics plus I've been in skin care my entire life as a master aesthetican with a derm background. Well fast forward to when everything began to come out and he was a focal point. A lightbulb went off and I ran to my storage in the basement and found that very photo. You see I think he realized after scoping me out that I was not the ideal candidate. I came from a good upper middle class family and was just visiting from Tulsa with our fashion team of students. He asked my friend Kelly (African American) guessing he doesn't go for that? but asked if she'd take our photo of me between he and Jean. I posed for the photo and he then wished me all the success in my future, hailed a cab and handed me back the photo after he looked at it. I saved it simply as it was a bizarre thing! I had no idea what a dangerous man I was posing with his arm around me. SO ODD.

Complete misunderstanding of morals. For some morals are worth dying for. Atheists tend to ignore and omit these people from observation and deny the possibility of their existence. Yet religious experiences are well documented and for those who have had these experiences they know God exists and thusly morality becomes an existential imperative. Weather this is just a function of neurons is up for debate but the effect is not. Some people will die for morals Socrates is one simple example another Gandhi who went on hunger strike to the point it permanently damaged his health. Not everyone’s morals are humanist and relativistic some people’s are absolute. So affording morals is absurd, so is the notion that humans will do anything to preserve their lives; if this was the case you wouldn’t have suicides or Christian scientists dying of curable diseases. In other words some people don’t value their lives enough to keep them and some people value their faith above their lives.

I lost a lot of confidence in Lex for stating that he doesn’t believe in conspiracies. “The only thing necessary for the triumph of evil is for good men to do nothing.” John Stuart Mills I know that this quote is often a scribed to Edmund Burke However he never said or wrote these words. At best, the essence of the quote can be traced back to the utilitarian philosopher John Stuart Mill, who delivered an 1867 inaugural address at the University of St. Andrews. Basically what he is saying that Epstein was created as a manchurian candidate to get dirt on very powerful people. Why does anybody just assume that Epstein was able to commit suicide in jail. When in order for him to do so it shows that the jail staff let him do this while he was on active suicide watch.

I think that was exactly the aim of CIA when they coined the term "conspiracy theory" shortly after Kennedy's assassination. It is used to discredit anybody who dares to investigate or ask questions ....
I don’t think the (badly labeled) “woke” attitude is obfuscating what Epstein did. If anything, it is the only thing that has shot a light on this disgraceful situation. If not for the modern attitude of not accepting or hiding the abuse of women and children enabled the victims of Epstein to speak out and finally be heard by authorities. It was, and is, the authorities’ and media reluctance to fully tackle the situation. Why are they reluctant? That is the big question and the answers are highly likely to uncover lots of very ugly truths.
Lex is such a empathetic and innocent good guy. It’s almost like seeing a sad child after being told that Santa Claus doesn’t exist when someone try to prove to him that some of these conspiracies could- and probably is to be true. Most of the world is kind hearted and good. But there’s definitely some evil shit out there. Real life is stranger than fiction sometimes.
Of course he knows there is evil out there. He's being a scientist in wanting to see evidence before characterising it. Glad there are still sceptics out there.

The trouble is, Jeff, that nobody is making much fuss about 16/17-year olds having sex for fun. - What really upsets people is the exploitation of very naive younger kids, and the monetary and (largely fake) promissory inducements offered to the less-than-enthusiastic older teens for their sexual cooperation.
Great interview Lex!! Much respect for sharing this. Really appreciate Dr. Weintein's honest thoughts. I know he cant say much more. But we get the message.
My best guess is, it is similar to "it is so dreadful it will make your hair curl." While "hair curling" and "curling toes" can be simultaneously seen as good and bad.. This is purely a good explanation as to how they confuse our languages, so even speaking the same langauge and words, we derive a personal experienced definition.. Another conspiracy. I believe he wouldn't of said what he did if he was in on it.. Besides many scientists are used for their knowledge by powerful people who want to abuse it.. So while they may be around eachother.. They most definitely do not always converge on such things or share the same beliefs. The scientists are self driven and want to achieve their goals, while the rich will fund the studies in hope they will somehow be able to abuse and control the narrative of whatever is discovered.. Uh oh more conspiracy.. But come on people.. This man is genuine.
Who is this interviewer and who gave him that microphone? HE DOESN'T THINK THIS WAS A CONSPIRACY???? A CONSPIRACY THAT BIG WOULD BE SURPRISING??? I'm done. If it wasn't for Eric I'd have clicked off.
Agreed. Lex is a smart man but i completely disagree with his thoughts on conspiracy. one of the problems with the Endless Frontier doctrine, is that we've hit on most of the low hanging fruit; so research today is getting more expensive and administrative to achieve increasingly smaller gains in insights.
By low hanging fruit, do you mean scientific developments that investors care about because it makes them more money? Research only goes as far as the currency that funds it. If investors had the sense to see the potential value that under-researched topics have (such as neural networks) we’d have a much broader variety of developments. There's an important semantic distinction here that was not made while Weinstein was criticizing the "conspiracy theorist" label as a rhetorical checkmate; though I still agree with his observation. A conspiracy *theorist* is supposed to refer to someone that is occupied with a kind of deductive reasoning from the presupposition that there is likely or definitely a conspiracy, rather than allowing a sufficient amount of evidence to lead them to that conclusion-the former process involves a great deal of confirmation bias and apophenia. There is an infestation of such people, accelerated by social media, so it becomes *very* easy for those who are not this to use that move to shut discussion down. Unfortunately, there are vastly more people mistakenly claiming conspiracy than there are correctly claiming it, so the aversion to treating conspiracy seriously in our zeitgeist shouldn't surprise anyone.
Why don't people know the difference between an actual conspiracy and the" conspiracy theory" label? It's a legal term. Criminals conspire every day! Ever hear of someone being charged with a conspiracy to commit murder, fraud, etc.? Donald Trump is currently charged with conspiracy to conspiracy to defraud the United States. 1. A conspiracy is an agreement to perform together an illegal, wrongful, or subversive act. 2. A group of conspirators. 3. An agreement between two or more persons to commit a crime or accomplish a legal purpose through illegal action. A conspiracy theory is an explanation for an event or situation that asserts the existence of a conspiracy by powerful and sinister groups, often political in motivation, when other explanations are more probable. The term generally has a negative connotation, implying that the appeal of a conspiracy theory is based in prejudice, emotional conviction, or insufficient evidence. A conspiracy theory is distinct from a conspiracy; it refers to a hypothesized conspiracy with specific characteristics, including but not limited to opposition to the mainstream consensus among those who are qualified to evaluate its accuracy, such as scientists or historians.
Always love listening to two brilliant individuals discuss topics such as this. Cudos to Lex for bringing it up, despite probably already knowing how this would go.
Evil is an act or thought that is 180 degrees opposite to good, meaning you put yourself first and it can come in any form, resentment, pride, anger, etc.
10:55 The questions are. Why are we dissuaded from investigating? And who has to make sure people are dissuaded from investigating? Who has the power to do this by using a media campaign to stop honest investigations into crimes against humanity?

I dunno man. I think Weinstein's level of certainty on many topics is a red flag for me. Notice how aggressively defiant he got when Fridman even suggested that long-term, sustained/sustainable conspiracies are hard to imagine in today's world. I happen to agree with Fridman. But with Weinstein there's an absolute *certainty* that what he's saying is correct. And that's a very dangerous attitude, no matter how smart you, or others, think you are. I'm trying to be impressed, but, I don't know. He has some interesting ideas, but there's a smug certainty to him that throws me off.

(If that sounds like a metaphor to you, take a look around you - there's a global pandemic bringing whole economies to their knees, all on the pretense of throw-away mortality rates, and no reliable information feedback loops to reconcile simple claims and their proportions.)
Pedophilia and the cycle of violence it engenders are surely evil, there is no doubt.
@Bill there are a number of generalities being combined here, about race and religion, and in particular about people
Judaism is not and technically cannot be strictly identical with Zionism. Jewish in a religious sense or an ethical sense)
Judaism specifically teaches Israelites to recognise and understand, and thus to love the stranger as they would understand and love themselves (the concept of love is to understand and thus care for one another even as we are all in some sense confounded in the human condition at this time)
But the stranger that dwelleth with you shall be unto you as one born among you, and thou shalt love him as thyself; for ye were strangers in the land of Egypt: I am the LORD your God.
(Leviticus 19:34)

It’s crazy to me how humans will literally shut off their god given senses as soon as “conspiracy” gets attached to something.
Sometimes I wish Lex would talk less or release a half episode with just his guests talking
Anyone who wants to understand how evil works at scale can read the dialogue between Socrates and Thrasymachus in Plato's Republic.
Mad props to Eric for bringing the heat.
Lex i am a black dude from the hood, who taught him python in 30 days. I learned visual c++ at 13. But i was a product of my environment. 😞 anywho I’m not that dumb lol, and to listen too Eric & Yourself talk, is so awesome.
The Universities became Psychopathic

Eric Weinstein NAILED it! Love him and how he breaks the subject up with clear concise detail.
Great interview Lex!! Much respect for sharing this. Really appreciate Dr. Weintein's honest thoughts. I know he cant say much more. But we get the message.
“Curl your toes” ??
I hope you meant turn your stomach.
freudian slip?
Phrase is used 2 opposite ways, intense sexual pleasure, or intense bad feeling. Poor choice of phrase in this instance I guess.
it means cringe
Never been so pissed you curled your fingers and toes?

Agreed. Lex is a smart man but i completely disagree with his thoughts on conspiracy. A lot of people are similar in the sense that they dont believe things like this could be a conspiracy even though many facts point to it being otherwise. I think the majority still dont believe the government were involved in the assassination of JFK hahaha.

one of the problems with the Endless Frontier doctrine, is that we've hit on most of the low hanging fruit; so research today is getting more expensive and administrative to achieve increasingly smaller gains in insights.
By low hanging fruit, do you mean scientific developments that investors care about because it makes them more money? Research only goes as far as the currency that funds it. If investors had the sense to see the potential value that under-researched topics have (such as neural networks) we’d have a much broader variety of developments. But no, we gotta make those smart phones lighter!
@@IanBpa The glorious days of science research are gone . Sorry. There is no more greats, or significants breakthroughts in the horizont. There is only minor stuffs been made just for keeping the bureaucratic machinery sizzling; just for keeping some people happy because they become “Phd’s”...

The hardwiring of cognitive dissonance, moral cause corruptuon, and confirmation bias.
The fact that Lex seems so sincere warms my heart. It reminds me to be careful not to generalize powerful men into 1 category. The silence is stunning. We should be yelling when evil is popping its head out. And it's popping EVERYWHERE.
I like Eric but he needs to chill out on interrupting all the time

Everyone would have thought NIXIM case was a conspiracy until it wasn't.
It’s so funny how clueless people act when wealthy or well educated people are accused of “evil”
It is so refreshing to hear a truly intelligent conversation between two people! Thank you for sharing this! It is like a breath of fresh air! new subscriber because of it.
This discussion is so invigorating . You two seem to understand each other well so each discussion doesn't need much background and that makes a ladder of understanding from one topic to the next. Please continue. I haven't been so challenged since I was studying Philosophy of Religion in 1965.
Lex, a book called At the Mind's Limits by Jean Amery is one you might like. Amery survived the Holocaust but couldn't reconcile the learned blindness that was a part of everyday life after WWII. It reminded me of what you were talking about at MIT.
I also think his buying into the concept of "woke", which is a right wing construct, is red flag #2. I've followed him a while, watched a lot of interviews, read some of his work. I'm trying to be impressed, but, I don't know. He has some interesting ideas, but there's a smug certainty to him that throws me off.
