Great progress, Ben. I'm envious at the speed with which you are getting all this stuff done. That drywall work alone is such a PITA! And all that carving of foam. Wow! Well done. Please do consider a video on your backdrop paining process. A sprayer does seem to be the way to go.
It may appear that way but I'm approaching 2 years of working on this and still no trains running :O Yes, drywall is for the birds. I hate it! Once I have done a bit more sky painting and get it a little better I will do a detailed video on it. Definitely takes some practice.
really nice so far. good job on the rolling terrain. any time you can change the grade, it adds to the realism. nothing worse than just plain old FLAT.
now I was able to download the translator ... Ben, sir, would have some watzap number so we could talk better. I'm going to start putting together my model and I'd like some tips I'm going to make on Canadian railroads.
I think the sky color looks perfect ! That's my opinion but I know you're a perfectionist and you do great work! Stay out of the basement and enjoy your summer
Thanks, I followed the NMRA standards for track spacing. www.nmra.org/index-nmra-standards-and-recommended-practices The radius of the curves in that section is around 40".
For a guy who said he was going to back off during the summer months you have made some outstanding progress Ben. As you were explaining the backdrop painting I was visualizing trees in front of it. I think it is going to work out really well. Great update again, now do spend some time with your family. David.
Thanks David! This is me backing off :) Baby nap times when Mumma is out is a perfect for working on the layout. Even if it's just 20 minutes or so a day it really adds up over a month. The three foot foreman is also down there with me all the time making sure I am working on it getting closer to the day when all the trains come out of the boxes.
Those rock faces out of foam pieces look amazing man i think they look real now thats on camera i dont know what they look like in person but i think for a scene they would be perfect
Looks great so far! Don't make a lot thoughts about background. Maybe in future you become an Idea how can you improve it or change. It looks good... 😊
Getting closer to seeing a train run across it. I think I can see a spot of light at the end of the tunnel. But it's Mount Macdonald tunnel and I'm walking :P
You've mastered the foam and terrain. That staging loop is nuts lol. Did you use a code 83 to 100 transition piece or just joined them straight together?
Thanks! Atlas makes transition joiners, which I have some and forgot to put the first ones. So I just soldered those ones together instead so the top of the rail lines up nice and smooth.
I misplaced it but back in the 70 in railroad magazine they used the ceiling tale for the rack face too I do not have at the magazine with me right now we do not know were it had gone to it play hide and seek with us right now did a very big remodel on the main floor and that room was packed up and moved and have not unpacked that room let
If a person had some scrap ceiling ties I'm sure that would work very well. There's no limit to the recycled materials we can use on our layouts. Can't beat the price either.
Looking great Ben! Next time I’m out I will pop by!
Thanks Nick. That would be great!
Very impressive!

Thanks! I agree, flat looks wrong unless it's a yard or something like that, even then there is still pretty decent ditches to allow for drainage.
Looking great!
THANK YOU...for sharing. Nice update.
Thanks!
Great Job. Looks great and will be a very nice and realistic layout [scenery and track bed etc.] Very rock face thingy.
Thanks Syl!
Great progress. Agree re backdrop. It looks fine on camera but whatever 'defects' it has, the eye will be drawn to the foreground detail.
Thanks, yeah it's one of those things where you just have to move on.

I think the sky color looks perfect !
That's my opinion but I know you're a perfectionist and you do great work! Stay out of the basement and enjoy your summer
Thanks Dave!
Awesome layout! For your double track mainline at 5:04 what your minimum radius so that the pieces for cork roadbed can be touching?
Thanks, I followed the NMRA standards for track spacing.

The radius of the curves in that section is around 40".

Getting closer to seeing a train run across it. I think I can see a spot of light at the end of the tunnel. But it's Mount Macdonald tunnel and I'm walking :P
Outstanding work Ben!!! Can’t wait to see everything done!! with as much work your putting in to it, I think your layout will be gone by 2020!!
Thanks Gavin, although I am not sure if it will ever be done. Hopefully by the year 2036 which is when the kids will hopefully be moving out :P
