Ammon Stone I got a suspension from my school in the 1980's for taking two days off to watch the launch of the space shuttle... The first day it was scrubbed, the second day it launched. My problem was as a kid I thought they would be 'good to go' with my enthusiasm for space.... I was wrong... I did however manage 8 years later to somehow complete my final in physics... So they were wrong too. So I don't know your ex-employers... But they are dickheads. Fuck 'em... If it wasn't for folks like that, inspiring us, showing us what is possible... Well we'd all be back sitting on our ass banging rocks together to make fire.
Ammon Stone bro, i almost lost my job over it too. When they announced this, i knew i was going regardless. I drove from MI on a spontaneous trip and documented the whole thing. Check out my falcon heavy trip on my page. You will like how i edited launch day and Kennedy space center. By far the sickest spontaneous road trip ever.
There are some things in life that you just have to do, whatever the cost. In 2011 I just got on a plane and flew over from Europe just to watch shuttle Endeavor's last launch. Was delayed twice, changed my return ticket twice (2x $500), ended up staying a month, flew my girlfriend over to join me, travelled a lot, and then on the final day fell asleep on the causeway waiting for the launch after spending the night wandering around the space centre for hours! Woke with my rib cage rattling from the rockets, just in time to see it disappear behind the clouds 2 seconds later! Probably blew around $5000 on that whim, but was still worth it!
Ammon, great choice! A job is just a job, and experience like this can be inspiring and life-changing. I, too, was there, and I was amazed at the people who came from afar (Seattle, Canada, even France), and those were just the ones I talked to. I applaud your decision!
I think it is awesome that they included the lost center core footage in this video. SpaceX is not affraid or ashamed to admit and embrace their failures as well as their accomplishments. All part of the learning and innovating process. This video is a "10"! Love it!
+The Dark Spider Signal from the droneship always fails in varying degrees, something about the soundwaves shaking the antenna until they cant transmit. However the cameras have a backup SD card so that they can recover the full footage once they reach port.
There actually have been functioning cars on the moon since the early 70's: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lunar_Roving_Vehicle And they were also electrical. 😉
Wow, I cannot believe that it’s already been 4 years since then. Witnessing the launch, even digitally, was such a profound experience. In that moment, I felt inspiration, unity, and tranquility. Here’s to the memories of those who are no longer with us.
Troy, we are decades behind because of Democrat Presidents Carter, Clinton and Obama. Obama cancelled the moon project. Trump restarted the project. Obama set us back 8 years. China is full steam ahead on moon projects
Mike_Sierra_2711 two years now and it has the same effect to me. Definitely a very historic event that I’m glad to have witnessed. Also introduced me to Bowie who was the first musician I ever actually listened to so that’s cool too
What I love about spacex is that they aren't afraid to talk about their mistakes. The fact that they showed the failure to land the core booster just shows that they know that they can always do better.
i second this. not in a malicious way of "oh look it didn't work" but because i've been anxiously waiting to figure out what Elon meant by "hitting the pad at 300mph". either way it's not that bad that it didn't land. it still fulfilled its primary mission and attempted a landing that had never been done before. all good!
I mean real talk I think most people kind of knew that the fact they didn't show it meant it didn't land successfully. In the modern news era you just have to control the first round of coverage, the followup coverage will be significantly limited in scope.
“Made on Earth by humans”! Reading this made me shed tears. Sad to see that what’s happening between us today is holding us from moving forward. When are people going to wake up?!
Yousef Al-A'ssaf يوسف العساف What is holding us from moving forward...? well, the answer is simple and complex at the same time! INTERESTS of the rich and wealthy, countries, politicians, parties, corporations, and it has cost this planet and us dearly.
My grandmother was born in 1930, a person who always instilled in us a taste for knowledge and science, in her library she had albums and albums full of clippings from newspapers and magazines related to the beginning of the space race, the arrival of man to the moon (she was a teacher and borrowed a television from a local company so her students could watch the broadcast) until the beginning and end of the shuttle era. You would have seen her face when we saw those boosters together landing in that synchronicity, she turned to me and I could see those tears in her eyes from her emotion. She pass away last year, whenever I miss her I come to see this video. Thank you to the entire SpaceX team for what you have given us.
C'est très bien d’avoir mis en ligne ces images ! cela prouve que vous avez pas peur de l’échec et que votre détermination est exemplaire. Continuez ! et surtout #roadtomarsandspace
iupdateos The Earth is flat.. Where's the curve at? Nice CGI guys... Oh man, just kidding lol. Its hard to believe we have so many idiots on the earth with us. Absolutely beautiful launch and deploy 🌎
The coolest thing to happen in most of our lifetimes. To people thinking I'm talking about the car being launched in space.. no. It's the rocket technology I'm talking about. Rockets landing themselves, almost in perfect sync with each other.
Na. To see a human standing on the moon was cooler, but watching those boosters landing like synchronized divers made me stand up and start cheering. Awesome!
The moon landing was of course awesome, but in retrospect it was just a PR stunt, not many useful things came out of it. What SpaceX does is not just cool videos and great achievements, the most important thing is what these launches will make possible in the near future.
You guys are missing the point. The payload wasn't the coolest thing, and I'd even venture to say the rocket wasn't either. The fact that they can launch, recover, and reuse such a MASSIVE rocket, with equally massive payload, is a revolutionary occurrence that opens the door to manned missions beyond our moon. What we witnessed that day was not just a cool ass rocket launch, but a tipping point in human history.
SpaceX be like "what did you say about landing vertical boosters again?" and "I heard something along the lines of 'you don't make better rockets by strapping more boosters on'"
I really don't comment much on videos, but I had to for this one. What a special experience I shared with my wife and girls as we hooted and hollered watching that historic launch. My Dad watched the original Apollo missions as a boy and told me he cried during the Falcon Heavy launch because of the unifying impact it had on everyone watching it, just as it did during the Apollo era. He felt like a little boy again. We have truly entered into a new golden era of space travel thanks largely to SpaceX, but so many other companies are in the race now; the more the merrier I say. With the promise or more exciting things to come, what a amazing time to be alive!
The Apollo missions were on network TV. I had to program a TV at the bar to get the RUclips stream for Falcon Heavy. But once I did that, most of the bar huddled around the single TV to watch it. The more things change, the more they stay the same I guess ;)
It's been 5 years and no other company or country on this planet has even touched the surface that SpaceX had done. You guys are the light of the world, the chief glory of the human race.
Really? Their big talk was to go to Mars in 2024. Everybody with a little bit of knowledge knew it wouldnt be possible. Biggest seller of dreams in the world.

Just in case aliens find it in 1 billon years and wonder what of the (many) intelligent species from the third blue planet of Helios make this stuff... -> Because obviously all of them will be still speaking english.
Basically, you've got anti-American bigots hating that it's made by Americans...and Americans beating their chests about the awesome rocket they built...and then everyone else rolling their eyes. So it's nice to see something completely non-nationalistic to get a little perspective from.
For some reason the most beautiful part of this video for me was the footage of the centre core crashing into that drone ship. The fact that Space X are open enough to share that footage in a promotional video just shows me how strong and genuine this company is... All the way down to its core
+Been Skilled I feel bad for whoever wrote that schizophrenic rant, but you're doing them no service by spreading it. If you're a friend of theirs, try to have them seek help.

@@David-vz4yk yes it would be good but for now the first thing we need to do is more international space programs. That will be the first step towards unity
Actually it was very lucky that it didn't hit the ship, because it would probably have been destroyed by the impact. I think the core didn't slow down enough because only one engine light up, at least thats what I remember...
INSOFT Hi. There have been designed the most powerful ON EARTH mechanical (not hydraulic) press, of at least 100,000t, by the elderly inventor alone. But do you think they say "wow! I want that press at every cost!"? The cost is not "every", by the way. Don’t you feel the irony of the moment? We’ve left the stone age just now, for the age of the regular space flights! The 100,000 press machine is a hallmark of the new era.... But they do not burst into tears in great excitement. They're too busy: the dreams about the future, you know. How ON EARTH they're going to build all these projects without developing heavy industries and promoting such great inventors and inventions!? If you'd like to support the inventor and his powerful project, please contact me.
I saw all of the Apollo launches and moon landings. I saw the STS 1 launch on a giant screen in an auditorium at Goddard Spaceflight Center. I saw STS7 in person cro Cocoa Beach. I saw the voyager photos of Saturn and Uranus live as they came in. Seeing this launch and especially seeing those two boosters landing in tandem ranks no lower than second on the list. Right after "One small step...". I was almost to the point of cheering as loudly as the crowd at SpaceX headquarters. It still brings tears to my eyes every time I see it. This was very special. It is good to see that somebody in this country still knows that doing it right beats doing it on schedule.
Seeing the young workers and engineers at SpaceX so happy that the rocket made with their own hands finally flew, and did so well, was very special. It was a surprisingly emotional event...
If all of the worlds leaders came together to solve a problem, they would fight and solve nothing. If all of the worlds scientist came together and solved a problem, they would all become friends and make earth a better place place.
@@JackBettey If all the worlds scientists came together, there would still be a lot of squabbling. More heads isn't always better. Cooperation is great, but that doesn't mean everyone has to work on the same issues.
Dr. Bananable Lector yes, finally someone who sees the same as i see. The rest of the footage in this video is inspiring and very beautifull, but I am pleased to see and i can appriciate that spacex chose to show us the failed landing. I was afraid they would not show it to the public, which would seem unspacex like, but im happy they did
It looks both sad and promising. I mean, yeah, it crashed. But the delta v isn't that high, the accuracy is on point and the impact is surprisingly mellow.
They were very open about what happened. It basically ran out of fuel. Part miscalculation, and part pointing out the difficulty of what they are attempting to do. I bet the next one performs flawlessly. Like good scientists everywhere they're just as excited about failure as success, because that's how learning happens.
Dear Elon Musk, and the entire Space X crew and staff, I am a 15 year old, who was interested mainly in aviation all my life. I remotely knew some stuff about space exploration but not much. Then I started to hear about this private company making wakes in the space industry. I remember seeing in the news the first booster to finally land back on earth from space, and I thought to myself, "Wow, that's pretty cool." You have opened my eyes to a whole new world, and I also want to thank you all for the sacrifices you guys put in day in and day out. The hard work you guys do is greatly appreciated. I also wanted to add one last bit. Thank you for giving my generation such great memories. I will always remember the Falcon Heavy, and I hope one day to become a settler of Mars. Once again, thank you Elon Musk, and Space X.
I'm 16 and when I saw my first livestream from SpaceX (Thaicom 8) in 2016, it inspired the heck out of me in space exploration. I now have a completely different perspective on space travel since finding this company.
We all talk about Elon a lot. Yes, he is way beyond a hero for us. But I would like to take this moment to thank the entire SpaceX team. Their incredible hardwork and passion has made it even more sweeter to watch these landings and behind the scenes. Kudos to you guys. Keep breaking are records and achieve new heights!! Love from India.
When ever I am feeling low, this always cheers me up. Knowing there are amazing people out there doing the necessary work of getting humanity into the cosmos, hopefully permanently. We should never stop exploring, ever. I was pleased to find out that SpaceX are working on a safety system to jettison the payload module from the rocket stages in case of emergency. The SpaceX team, with Elon leading, really have restored my faith in humanity, I know that maybe wasn't your aim, but really, you have
Remember showing this to one of my older teachers. He said one thing that made me realize how much SpaceX has achieved. He said "Rockets aren't supposed to do that" when reacting to the two boosters landing together. Damn right they're not supposed to but here we are. Go Elon, Go SpaceX, and Go Humans.
If an elderly but distinguished scientist says that something is possible, he is almost certainly right; but if he says that it is impossible, he is very probably wrong. Arthur C. Clarke
My father woke me in the middle of the night I must of been nearly 4 to watch Neil Armstrong walk on the moon. At the time obviously I didn’t really realise what I was watching, or the enormity of it. But I knew it was important, my dad also didn’t realise that he had sparked an interest in space and space exploration thats lasted with me ever since. Mark my words, what is happening now with Musk, Bezos and Bigelow you will be telling your grandkids about and people 100/200 years in the future will be talking about this period in time like we do about the industrial revolution. It is, an awesome time to be alive, savour every moment!
The bulk of that Roadster was made at the Lotus factory in Hethel, England. And they had Bowie playing instead of the Star-Spangled Banner. I approve of this. Remember, when we landed on the moon we planted a US flag-but we also left a plaque saying, "We came in peace for all mankind."
5 years ago today, Falcon Heavy took to the skies for the first time, becoming the most powerful operational rocket. Now, SpaceX is close to beating that record once again with Starship. We’re so lucky to live in these exciting times!
Probably one of the most important men of all time - if he gets us to mars and starts a colony that's even more important than the mission to the moon. More important than columbus and all the explorers before him.
Even a year after the launch, watching the video on the body running goosebumps. I am proud of our civilization. Thank you Ilon Musk. Greetings from Russia🚀🇷🇺🇺🇲
I came across this video not knowing anything about rocketry or science, or atleast with very very little interest. 3 years later, I’m a massive fan of the space industry and honestly I’m so glad I found something so interesting and different. Amazing video
I think this song "life on Mars" was produced specifically for this event. Bowie had a vision back in his time 😍 And this video gave me goosebumps just like the live event of Falcon Heavy. What a beautiful time to be Alive !
I admit, it actually got a little dusty in here when they landed safely. I am constantly surprised and impressed by human ingenuity. Most of the time humanity sucks. Sometimes it really, really doesn't.
I think humans are not unlike dogs - there is almost nothing such as a bad dog - there are only bad dog owners - similarly the vast majority of people are good, it is only bad parenting and or bad circumstance that makes them something other than good or neutral. Then you get an outlier like Elon, who went through a very rough childhood and comes out as IMO possibly one of the greatest people who has ever lived. When you see him interviewed I for one can understand what is likely going on in his head - he is asked a question and he is considering the 20 or so possible responses he might want to use - and there are always those mental midgets that will say "he is autistic, or has Asperger....." no, he's just a really, really smart guy who thinks before he talks.
I think we are like children. We don't yet understand ourselves, or the potential we possess. As a parent, I am sometimes entirely amazed by my children, as I am sure my parents were of me. Yet, sometimes, guidance is needed. We will get there, I am sure. Hopefully if not in my lifetime, at least within my children's.
Just going to comment this here - this is my favorite RUclips video ever. When I first watched it years ago, it had a huge impact on me… now I can’t listen to Bowie without thinking of space. Bravo!
What a pretty little video. I'm old enough to remember watching the Apollo moon launches. I watched the live webcast of the Falcon Heavy launch, and my heart was pounding like a jackhammer during the last minute of the countdown. I don't think I took a breath until Stage 2 ignition. This was right up there with the most exciting launches I've ever seen. Somebody correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe this was the first time in history that a rocket put a payload into solar orbit on its first test flight. Magnificent. Congratulations, SpaceX!
@Fair Winds Happy?!! He'd be a blubbering emotional wreck! ;-) This is everything he ever dreamed about, being made real. This will ultimately create an order of magnitude reduction in the cost to access space. That changes everything! And Heinlein truly would grasp the import of it. This launch, the success of it with booster retrieval, is quite literally as important a step for humanity as landing men on the moon! This means space stations and moon bases, it means asteroid mining, asteroid miners, space tourists in orbiting hotels. This is the dream! It's real, it's happening, and it will all happen now with private investment. Fickle politics is now utterly irrelevant. I've watched this launch well over a dozen times. I still tear up. I'm one of those who really get it, how massive this game changer really is.
I dont care if some other company overtakes spacex tomorrow and makes a more a powerful rocket , but this will always have a special place in our heart . Respect and love to spacex from India❤🙌✌
Hi +TheOne AndOnly may you please elaborate on what you think the reasons for racism are? This isn't a snarky reply, I'm genuinely interested in your view(s).
Yeah, only a year or so until they start testing it hopefully. I wont be holding my breath though. BFR construction & development could take longer & SpaceX has had their share of delays the past few years.
Falcon heavy: 63 ton on LEO, 16.8 ton on mars, 3.5 ton on pluto... BFR: 150 tons wherever you want, 150 tons on mars, 150 tons on pluto, even in the ass of kim jong un !

That's just great! Congrats on living your life to the full!

Love it!
But they did omit the centre core footage from the stream...
The Dark Spyder they lost signal with the cameras and the drone ship, but the cameras did record it fortunately
The live stream camera was lost. The footage shown is from a camera with an SD card.
+The Dark Spider
Signal from the droneship always fails in varying degrees, something about the soundwaves shaking the antenna until they cant transmit. However the cameras have a backup SD card so that they can recover the full footage once they reach port.

i second this. not in a malicious way of "oh look it didn't work" but because i've been anxiously waiting to figure out what Elon meant by "hitting the pad at 300mph". either way it's not that bad that it didn't land. it still fulfilled its primary mission and attempted a landing that had never been done before. all good!
Transparency from a private company is always a breath of fresh air.
Yeah, it took them a while. All they had before was the footage from the drone ship that only captured a cloud of dust after the crash.
Kind of hard to spot the engines that didn’t re-ignite. At least nobody got hurt.
I mean real talk I think most people kind of knew that the fact they didn't show it meant it didn't land successfully. In the modern news era you just have to control the first round of coverage, the followup coverage will be significantly limited in scope.

Andras, so launching a car with cameras into orbit was not a pr stunt?
Buzz LightBeer Yeah but not just one
You guys are missing the point. The payload wasn't the coolest thing, and I'd even venture to say the rocket wasn't either. The fact that they can launch, recover, and reuse such a MASSIVE rocket, with equally massive payload, is a revolutionary occurrence that opens the door to manned missions beyond our moon. What we witnessed that day was not just a cool ass rocket launch, but a tipping point in human history.
Let's be honest. No other company is willing to say "Hold my beer" At the level that SpaceX can.
Engineerisaac everyone: $10 says you won’t shoot your car into space

I was born in the right generation!
The Apollo missions were on network TV. I had to program a TV at the bar to get the RUclips stream for Falcon Heavy. But once I did that, most of the bar huddled around the single TV to watch it. The more things change, the more they stay the same I guess ;)

This in my opinion is one of the greatest achievements ever

Yep was expecting a comment like this at the top.

Dear Elon Musk, and the entire Space X crew and staff,
I am a 15 year old, who was interested mainly in aviation all my life.
Ethan Roberts, yeah. It does that to you.
It is sad no one reads comments this far down.
And I agree.

Three months later and I still get chills by watching this...
I think we are like children. We don't yet understand ourselves, or the potential we possess. As a parent, I am sometimes entirely amazed by my children, as I am sure my parents were of me. rickl3000 you think the Falcon Heavy was exciting? Wait til the BFR flies ;)
If I have seen further it is by standing on the shoulders of Giants.
I love how the center core just instantly sank in an anticlimactic splash 3ft away from the ship
IneptOrange anticlimactic? It hit at 300mph. You wouldn’t have said it was anticlimactic if you were anywhere near it lol.
randomjasmic But it just crumpled into the ocean lmao
IneptOrange yep, its designed to fall into the ocean by default so the droneship isnt damaged
Vivek Baskaran unfortunately it still took out 2 of the droneships engines
not really, it didnt have enough liquid to perform the landing, so it missed
I wish David Bowie were alive to see this. And Robert Heinlein. I'm sure they would share my tears.
Yes! Robert A. Heinlein is my favorite author/philosopher. He would be happy to see this.
@Fair Winds
Happy?!!
@Peter
Me too my friend.... Me too.
Peter Cohen he’s just on mars right now in a Tesla waiting for us to come visit in 2024.
quit the blubbering you big baby
I dont care if some other company overtakes spacex tomorrow and makes a more a powerful rocket , but this will always have a special place in our heart . Respect and love to spacex from India❤🙌✌
"Look at those cavemen go" indeed! We've come a long way.
love this comment ❤👍
LOL
I read this as he sung the lyric
Hey Wheatley u okay? Wheres space core
Look at the progress we've made, imagine the future!
Mahir Cave this is the future
Yea one day we'll put a man in a spaceship in space not just a dummy in a car.
Ya kids will still be hungry in our streets, can’t wait!
*dead humans everywhere in a dead biozone from a senseless war*
Hi +TheOne AndOnly may you please elaborate on what you think the reasons for racism are? This isn't a snarky reply, I'm genuinely interested in your view(s).
I can barely wait for the BFR!
MusiCanines - The Musical Dogs I didn't do any part osf this awesome machine, but when I read "Made on Earth by humans" I felt proudly...
Yeah, only a year or so until they start testing it hopefully. I wont be holding my breath though. BFR construction & development could take longer & SpaceX has had their share of delays the past few years.
The Falcon Heavy rocket is being assembled right now. The BFR is being assembled also.
MusiCanines - The Musical Dogs Me too XD
Falcon heavy: 63 ton on LEO, 16.8 ton on mars, 3.5 ton on pluto...
BFR: 150 tons wherever you want, 150 tons on mars, 150 tons on pluto, even in the ass of kim jong un !
This was the peak of the 2010s no contenders
Yes launching a car into space == best thing humanity did in the 2010s.
Advanced genome editing research that could change the future of our species and save lives? Nahhh boring.
@@symbolitical4158 they literally dual landed two boosters at once this was the peak of the 2010s
