I like to imagine that Reid records from inside a dog grooming facility. IRL, Reid is a master dog groomer who washes puppies while kicking ass on MTGO. I imagine him with a head-band on, puppy in 1 hand and mouse in the other.
@bobby Life is busy and this is an event with a starting time so it's not like he could schedule around it. Also I'd rather have more Reid videos , so if it takes a bit of noise clutter at the start to make that happen, it's an easy choice.
You are worse than cancer ??. Lol I want to pet the cat. Learn to laugh. I guess I shouldn’t expect much from someone who calls other people autistic for no reason and uses the word “cancer” for there name in a demeaning way.
This individual's play made all the more impressive by the fact that he played this whole event right beside his father's anvil inside a tiny blacksmithing hut not more than five feet wide. Ever tried to go off with Storm while molten metal is pounded into form beside you? Didn't think so. Love this video and the Duke! I hope the meal was at least helpful to keep you focused for the event!
You can almost smell the tension in the air! As thick as Sunday Gravy! Always like to watch Reid break bread with some opponents in Vintage, and playing Storm no less! So many ingredients needed for the win, but Reid puts them all together like a master chef! Fair warning, this video made me hungry, but well worth the watch!
Hey Reid, just a bit of friendly advice from a vintage player :). when your opponent decided to bounce your defense grid off the chain of vapors, I would have used the opportunity to just re-jam the defense grid. At worst, it's get's countered by force of will since your opponent is tapped out and if they just have a second force of will and another blue card, you're just dead in the water anyway and it doesn't matter. If the defense grid sticks though I think there's still lines where you can get there without that extra 2 mana. Red Elemental blast just feels like a trap here.
BTW I did actually write this before watching the part where your opponent had the force, so I think I stand by that. Risking losing your dark petition when it's actually a demonic tutor right now just seems really bad.
problem is chain was bouncing the damping sphere, so jamming grid just lets op play out sphere again, which basicly is wasting an answer. i would have rather tried to eot chain, possibly when their sphere blocks them out, and have the one more mana up. but i dont play vintage myself, so idk if my line is utter garbage.
You can't EOT Chain when you have Defense Grid down (it costs 3 more) The only way I think this game can be won is to wait to draw a 3rd land. Main phase cast Chain off Sea, if opponent copies Chain onto your Defense Grid, then you can copy Chain back onto your own LED (increasing storm count), then you can cast Mox, LED, Dark Ritual off Badlands + one other land and cast Dark Petition. If he has Force, you have Lotus Petal for R to cast Red Elemental Blast. If not, you get a Demonic Tutor off the Petition (1 black floating) crack Petal for B and cast DT for Yawgmoth's Will (crack LED in response) and use Will to play Petal and LED. Petal to play Ritual. Crack LED, play Dark Petition again for Tendrils and win. at least, that's what I think... not sure if I missed something
@@daveruckstuhl3298 so you have access to 9 mana in this hand at that point before you play the chain of vapors: 2 land, petal, diamond, mox and dark ritual. Cast chain, grid gets bounced, recast grid and (i would assume) it gets countered by fow. That's 6 mana left, cast dark ritual as part of the 6 mana left then dark petition with spell mastery to get yawgmoths will. 4 mana left. Then cast yawg and go off. Again this is assuming they don't have a second force of will.
since you are a Vintage player, you could answer this question, when the chain of Vapor copy was on the stack, couldn't he have Red Elemental Blasted that, saved his defense grid and allowed himself to Dark Petition for Yawgmoth's Will, cast everything from the graveyard and then Tendrils?
What kind of party is happening in the background? First it was just cooking some food and then in match 2 you can hear a conversation. I haven't gotten to match 3 but if I dont hear anything else I'm going to assume some tragedy has befallen his partygoers
Just a little note here, around 1:26:00 Reid misses a very cool play. As he gets wastelanded the first time he could have floated blue Mana and bounced the opponent's Sol Ring without them copying the spell. This would have locked the opponent's on Mana for a couple turns, I was really hoping he would see it at the last second.
powuhofPIE I think he couldn’t have casted petition afterward, idk why he didn’t crack LED for red in response to force with dark petition on the stack and red blast force then dark petition for yawg will, maybe I’m missing something
powuhofPIE He couldn't have played Dark Petition if he cracked petal. He probably shouldn't have bounced the Jace to reduce odds of fow but other than that I think he had to go for the Petition either way. and once OP forces he can't REB because crackind LED would discard it.
Against the Delver deck, when you cracked fetches to cast Bargain, isn't leaving the Badlands in the deck better than exposing it to land destruction in addition to leaving it fetchable? You had Island Island Sea Badlands in the deck, so the Mire can get Sea while the Delta gets an Island.
Ahhhhh Classic Reid Duke backround noise of steak being fried up and dishes being done right next to then computer. The best thing about these videos is the backround noise I always wonder what they are cooking!!!!
I remember when this deck (kinda) was standart legal. It had academy rectors vampiric tutors and grim monoliths and the point was to get yawgs bargain and cast soul feast 5 times. Not to mention yawgmoth's will was completey legal. Good times.
@@lovelylemonfactory See, I believe that, but that makes absolutely zero sense. That's like what your mom does with the family pc when you're a teenager and she doesn't want you looking up porn. Why is Reid Duke's pc in his god damn kitchen?
I understand the classic ponder over preordain idea, but here in this deck in vintage with so many one ofs could it be better to have the scry 2 option if you know you don't want cards you see* as opposed to the shuffle
Also playing the match against shops and opting out of casting your own defense grid might limit your ability to use the chain of vapor at some point but would the potential extra one Mana from an academy help fight through the hate from the opponent?
Yay finally a non standard format that isn't played by mengucci.(no offense to mengucci its just that literally everyone else only plays standard and i can't find enough legacy/vintage videos)
I have 35,000. But I have 4-ofs of every single common until I think Zendikar, and that makes a huge difference for a very little price. Almost all the money is concentrated in my Modern and Legacy collection, and that has to be less than 1,000 cards, so the total is hardly representative. On the other hand, it DOES mean that Reid Duke has a very powerful computer, because man does it slow down the client. :)
Love your videos, but can we please do something about the amount of background noises there are? Please, its really simple to fix, literally a noise gate, or minimum volume required to activate the microphone.
You would have to use yawg will. But Tendrils' storm ability triggers, si it takes specifically Flusterstorm. Because of that, they counter action cards like Demonic tutor, draw sevens or Ancestral recall. But then grid and duress helps you preventing that happening
On a serious note, if these guys are gonna keep doing content on youtube and on your website, can we just please get some basic audio quality improvements? Its not expensive to make sure that the audio quality isnt echoing or sounding super dense. You cant avoid whatever is going on in the backgrounds of their households, but something should be done to start improving the quality of the videos through just the audio means.
There’s not a unique/simple answer to your question! But it’s not always the best choice, especially in a storm deck. With more experience you will understand why he do so.
Think you really undervalue Bargain. Match 2 you could have just Petitioned for Lotus and went off drawing X cards. A bargain resolved at about 15 life is basically an auto win.
I don't undestand why Reid plays his academy instead of his delta in the game he resolves bargain and his opponent has null rod. I can't remember the deck list so maybe there's only one badland but even if he can't keep pyroblast up, he exposed his academy to wasteland.
Words can not describe how little I like shops :/ like I’ve played some oppressive decks that stop the opponent from playing magic (eminent domain in modern) but I saw that none of my friends liked playing against it, so I stopped playing it cause damn those decks are just sorta miserable

Theory: Reid Duke records his videos inside a restaurant that's secretly owned by him and the name of the restaurant is called Reid's Duke
At first I couldn’t tell if it was a dryer spinning with something metal in it and a washer filling but I agree it sounded like meal prep this time.
I’m a simple man. I see Reid Duke in the video, I hit the like button.
