Its because Grandparents usually don't have to instill their teachings into their grandchildren by raising them, they can enjoy the company of their grandchildren in their old age.
His experiences in Shinobi village politics and struggles sure lead to his harsh bitterness along with his personal tragedies. Still he's moved on from that and has become a doting grandfather, he's making up for lost time and happy to do so.
I noticed it's similar to how some grandparents in our time are like, harsh to their kids in the olden days but doting and spoiling their grandkids
Hiashi Hyuga is arguably one of the very few "bad" father figures that live long enough to make amend and make a 180...

Hiashi should've told Neji what happened to his dad from the start. If he did, Neji would've never tried to kill Hinata.

The fact that Hiruzen and the Hyugas agreed to kill of one the Hyuga members just to avoid conflict shows how shitty Hiruzen was.
Not only Hidden Leaf was probably still the strongest village, but it's a sign of submission to do such shit things after the ambassador tried to kidnap Hinata. Proof or not, they shat themselves and mostly because Hiruzen is an incompetent ruler.

Out of all 4 of Boruto and Himawari’s grandparents Hiashi is the only one who got to live long enough to see them be born and have a relationship with them as their growing up. His own wife who is just known as Hinata and Hanabi’s mother yet still remains unnamed and both of Naruto’s parents Minato and Kushina sadly were not so lucky.
Never got into Baruto, I imagine Naruto must be very grateful and happy that his kids get to grow up having a grandfather, where as Naruto didn't even know who his parents was until he got older.
I suggest you to watch episode 7 and 8 then, when Naruto and his kids go visit them...

I wouldn't call Hiashi the worst father... he wanted to push Hinata to be the next heir of the Hyūga Clan. But when Hinata lost to Hanabi, he immediately gave up on her.
No one pushes their child too hard just for their own selfish purposes. Hinata wasnt bad as a hyuga fighter. The only issue she had was that she was too kind. Instead of her father to rebuke her kindness, he could have used her kindness to make her stronger.Hinata lost to hanabi because of her kindness despite Hinata being stronger. He's one of the worst fathers in Naruto alongside Gaara's father and Kawaki's father.
Hiashi knew that Hinata has great potential and is the strongest. But she is too gentle. That's why Hiashi knew she couldn't be strong and gave up.
He’s nicer towards Himawari then he was towards Hinata. Also, why didn’t he just tell Neji the truth about Hizashi from the beginning?????? Doing so could’ve prevented Hinata from getting damned near killed by Neji.

I like how this series create an organic process of transformation in the characters, following real psychological process, and at the same time they still keep some of their personal characteristics. This made the characters very realistic in spite of the fantasy they portray.

Short story: anime fandoms are very toxic, due to the different opinion clashing, and most people regressing to animals, when they're shielded by the internet.

When we first saw her she had almost no personality.
