I totally could have used this info like 8 or so years ago. I pulled a dead person out of the water and struggled. At the time, I did not know he had already passed and when I pulled him up, foam came out of his mouth so I thought he was trying to breath. It was scary and I almost drowned myself trying to rescue him. I paddled way out, about 500yrds to get his board and he happened to be attached to the board still. After I got him about half way in my buddy came and a short while later, 20+ other surfers came out and took over while I tried to recover. I didn't know it then but it was rather traumatic. For months I kept seeing drowned people out of the corner of my eyes. I would see shadows in the water. It was a very sad day. thanks for this, it really helps and I feel better prepared if it ever happens again. Hoping it never does.
Thanks for sharing and sorry to hear about your experience. I’ve had a similar thing happen to me and it’s not nice. It was a long time ago when I didn’t know what to do either. But now we know and hopefully we never need to use it, but if we do now we know what to do. Stay safe 🙌
I love this. I was previously a rescue diver and have recently got into surfing. I watched a guy die on independence day while fishing at the beach and had i had this knowledge and one of my boards he potentially could have been rescued. I think ill be taking a board every time i walk down yhere now after seeing this
Ah sorry you had to witness that! I think this is good knowledge to share so we’re able to help people when we have the chance. Now you know 😊 Have a good day.
I’ve always imagined this scenario as some of my favorite surf spots are by an airport. Imagined what I would do if a plane went down. Thanks for the tips. 🙏
Hey. That’s a good question. I should have put that part in there 😅 But once you get to shallow water take your leash off and leave your board and then you’d have to carry the person to the beach. The best technique is to walk backwards as you reach under his armpits and with both your hands grab his one forearm and drag him to the beach. Hopefully there are people close by to help.
Great advice. Brilliant demonstrations.
Glad you like it brother. Hopefully it helps people to save others in the lineup if something bad happens.
That is really important to know. Thanks a lot mate 🤙
Glad you find it helpful 😊

Important thing is you tried your best which is more than most will ever do. Take peace in that. Much respect. 👍🙏

@@ed1pk glad you found this helpful. And yes, it is good to know how to rescue people. Have a good day.
Hey Shannon, thanks for the unique video - how do you get the person off the board onto the beach once you get to the beach?
