I'm 74 years old, I love country...I've never heard this song before....I'll never forget it... why or what made her chose this song? It's beautiful and so is she... thank you.....I'll be singing it too....thank you ...what a wonderful talent ................ !!
+Doris Morson A lot had to do with the fact that Paddy Moloney remembered it from his young days. I recognise this from a marvellous DVD made at a concert in Nashville featuring The Chieftains and a bunch of mostly blue grass musicians and other performers. Some of the lyrics don't quite make sense (c.f. Kitty Wells's version/s) but in every other respect it's astoundingly good. It's hard to imagine that anyone could surpass the instrumentation in this version (or the singing).
I heard this song many years ago and I believe that Kitty Wells made it back in the day. A beautiful song and Martina McBride makes it beautiful as well.
This is one of the ultimate tear jerker songs. Mac did a terrific job on it. Martina was pretty throughout the song, but it seemed like in the last third finally captured the bleak and desperate sorrow of the situation depicted. The background music sounded a lot like one of Patsy Clines hits, during her masterful period just before she died. Very appropriate to a fine singing performance.
Here’s another beautiful version, sang by Anita Carter of The Carter Family - from the Johnny Cash show back in the 1970’s: ruclips.net/video/PAKp4oy_Bd8/видео.html
I'm new to this song...just heard it for the first time by Loretta Lynn who just released a new CD that includes many traditional country songs. I've been a Martina McBride fan for years, and she does a nice job on this classic.
The song is brilliant, the singer is stunning, But the Chieftains are absolutely magnificent
Absolutely brilliant version by Martina McBride. 👍🏴🤠 Greeting from ENGLAND from a Country music fan of 52 years.
Always a beautiful song from Martina!! ❤❤❤

+Doris Morson This is a very old song. It's about a girl watching the man she loves marry someone else. It's a nice dance piece.

The background music is The Chieftains, the premier Irish folk music group.

Beautiful song and beautiful woman singing it I love picking it on guitar also.
At 79, this is one of the best country songs by a great singer, I also like Mac’s version but it is more fitting for a female singer.
I never heard a more beautiful sound in my OLD life!
