Call me crazy, but if I had to choose between two awful scenarios, I think I'd rather live in a half abandoned ghost neighborhood in Detroit than a densely populated shooting gallery in Chicago.
@SirAnthony z It was just a thought, not a wish. I'm just echoing a comment from the 'Detroit East Side Danger Zone' video from a mail carrier who wrote that "the neighborhood was dangerous when it was full of houses", and that the many of the people who remain have paid off their homes, so they have more investment in the community (as opposed to the many rental properties seen in this video). Mo' people, mo' problems. I'd rather reside in a bombed out zombie neighborhood where there's ten people per city block vs 100+, where there's crowds of people wild'n out on the street corners all day and all night. I hear you about the deep poverty though. Resources are probably scarce when an entire city like Detroit is in a state of disrepair.

In the Marine Corps I knew a Marine who lived in this area. He was in our platoon during operation urgent fury. To describe him he was bad news but in Grenada he obeyed and had courage. Last times I saw him was in 2001 in DC during a military/friendship reunion and later that same year I met him while he was visiting Boston. He scored some big money and when his mother and sister found out about it they blackmailed him forcing him to buy them a home and marry his sister. He got a phony preacher to marry them and behind his mother and sister's back he secretly sold the house to someone. His mother next was getting angry because he was not making any money and the story was one day as he was leaving the house his mother hollered to him saying "Bring home the bacon!" meaning money. Later when he came back home he gave his mother a pound of bacon and she got mad and shot him dead. After he and his mother were taken away neighbors heard the sister singing. When they went inside the house to comfort her they saw her on the floor washing away the blood. "The house is all mine" more or less she said to them and she was smiling. Some months later the owner of the house came by and started hollering at her for not paying the rent. She got evicted later.
@Trey Indica here's another funny story. Before Grenada his sister was outside sitting on the front stairs of the apartment they lived at and somebody dropped a television out of the window above her. It was her own family's television. It struck the side of her head and bounced off her shoulder and believe it or not the television didn't break.

This is not even close to poverty. People in America have a chance. An opportunity. You want to see real poverty with no welfare, visit the Philippines and other nations that have no welfare. US has everything and they are just lazy and uneducated. Good job Democrat’s

Imagine being a thin, 5'1 Latina girl walking through a neighborhood like that 💀 I had just moved to Chicago. I knew which area to not go to. But I didn’t know there were similar neighborhoods. I was headed somewhere and I saw that it was an hr walk. I wanted to take a walk. So I did. But neighborhoods change from like one block to another. I ended up in a really bad neighborhood. Almost everyone stared at me. Because I was dressed cute, lace, very feminine and dainty...So I walked with confidence and aware of my surroundings. Like I live there. No one bothered me. Needless to say I took a different way home.
My daughter is about your size, luckily she was brought up around handguns, comfortable to use them, and we live in a second amendment friendly state where she can open carry... It's most definitively an equalizing Factor

I grew up in the 60's along different places on Roosevelt Av. It was never a great hood but there was lots of civic pride, schools were still good, and more jobs. Now it looks depressing as hell and it doesn't take a genius to figure out why. 'There's no more factory/assembly lines/manufacturing or other entry level/laborer jobs for a young man/women to do. Back in the day we supported our families on one of those factory paychecks. We got overtime pay and we saved up for cars, houses, and raised our kids to be good kids and sought/fought to get them into good schools. Bottom line is jobs. Nothing changes a young man's mindset like a steady paycheck.
Hi, I’m born and raised in Chicago, and I can tell you with confidence that you were not in the most dangerous area you were on the Westside, the most dangerous area is the Southside around 63rd. Street & the Inglewood area.
I sure do feel sad for those who have to grow up and live in a place such as this. I grew up on the South Side way back when it was a very clean and secure place. But it too is now a sewer. I wish them the best surviving this environment.
The scariest place in Chicago, I received a call about a special needs child being abused. I am trying to remember the East / West St. I do remember going West and I had to turn North on Maypole. There was a saying at the station, on Maypole even the Nuns and Priest carry guns, I got to the Apartment, mom pulled in behind me, she had gotten a call as well. We went into her home and the babysitter , was abusing the child. I got the child to a hospital, along with mom, and I put the babysitter in jail. The irony, for having a such violent past / history/reputation, the people were so nice, friendly, and helpful.especially towards me, being in a mixed race Native American / Caucassian .
Heck, just finished an assignment in N Lawndale, same hood as in the video. Completed many there over the years. Never look forward to those due to this areas reputation. I've never been hassled though so it's not as bad to work there as it is to live I guess.
Growing up in a tough neighborhood is never easy for some who can’t handle it while others have develop a vast network of skills, have connections with people to survive through the rough times. It’s a shame that no one has step forward in the city of Chicago to clean up the streets of crime constantly happening to make the city safer for its citizens. If there was a vigilante who can single-handedly dismantled the underworld of Chicago with a little help from their allies. It would change the city for the better.
I grew up in K town. Never realized how dangerous it was until I moved out of state. Thought it was normal to see people get shot every once in a while 🤦🏾♀️
@Dwayne James I’d love to move back without all the violence. Other than that I loved my community and people. 🤦🏾♀️ wish there were more places blacks could go and live amongst each other without all the nonsense.
yo this is my hood! I went to one of the schools he rode past and yeah this video looks a lil depressing but it's not always like this I swear! when I see this I think of so many good memories growing up here it's hard to see it the way a lot of you do in the comments
I definitely understand but the ‘poor and pregnant’ epidemic is getting out of control in urban cities across America. Years ago, you could manage because family structure was based off of conventional parenting and conservatism. Nowadays, a lot of children are being birthed and raised under unorthodoxy parenting methods from parents with bad attitudes.
Main thing is that a lot of us who comment that way haven't seen what you've seen, this video is one of the few that show us what it is like now. I'm curious though, what did it look like when you grew up here?
@@zakenmaru8612 I mean it pretty much looked like this but mind you, this video was filmed on a kinda cloudy day but usually it's full of life. There are always kids out playing especially in the summer. it's the hood so there will always be people out hustling and crackheads around and stuff but I was never afraid to go out with friends during the day
@@babyboyD yeah makes sense. I don't live in hoods but I've driven through them before. Overall people seem to mind their own business, at least in the daytime. I hear not to stick around during night but I guess that's just common sense.
We see this, think oh it's so sad, boo hoo. Life is hard but Chicago is gray, dreary alot during the year, in nice areas too. And we forget most people, wherever we live, are good decent people. Here too. These neighborhoods can't possibly be as dangerous as our imagination tells us
I knew those hoods in my youth....A real shame the way those people have destroyed what where good areas in the city at one time. Empty lots once contained homes and business's. They have been burned down, now filth and liter is seen everywhere. Total destruction has taken over. + Spreading like a plague.
I lived in Garfield Park last year and for a while in 2020 and I thought that place had promise if shit got fixed up a little, cleaned up, maybe bring some more business there. It's sad out there. Streets littered with trash, buildings crumbling, empty lots.
I grew up on these streets. My cousin still lives there. He covered a lot of ground in this: Roosevelt/Pulaski, Roosevelt/Central Park, Central Park/Douglas Blvd, Homan Square, and more. But somehow missed all of Austin & K-Town.
Remember, ultimately you have personal responsibility. Human beings are incredibly resilient if they choose to be. No matter what circumstances you are born in, you can always choose to be the most disciplined worker and get yourself out of this hellhole. Personal responsibility.
Why doesn’t the City provide basic services? How many jobs are there in that area? The manufacturing jobs that didn’t go overseas went to the suburbs. An entire population with no hope. Whites live in trailers outside town and their conditions are just as bad. Or worse. WTH do you expect?
Romans 13:4 For the on in authority is God's servant for your good. But if you do wrong be afraid, for rulers do not bear the sword for no reason. They are God's servants, agents of wrath, to bring punishment on the wrongdoer
This is my neighborhood. It is insanely violent. I keep a loaded .38 in a drawer by my door. I actually legally own it. It has been used. Police hang up on us. My friend got car jacked here and was soaked in her boyfriend's blood when she showed up
Do not EVER EVER EVER allow your life to end up trapped in a big city like Chicago or any city in the Midwest where it gets ultra cold. I’ve lived here 52 years on all sides of this city and I’am going to save your LIFE. Do not come here, imagine 99 ants in a Nike shoe box and then they drop you in, you’re crashing into everyone with no room to spare. Living in Chicago or a big city like this is one of the most toxic things you can do to your life, these videos aren’t telling you the truth, many are paid to be here because Chicago lost residents due to over taxation, corruption from politicians, ultra, ultra violence from gangs and bad schools, the list goes on and on. You never ever want to move into this city, it’s over saturated with ppl living on top of each other, behind each other, every direction you go there’s 10 thousand ppl coming at you, there’s no room to breathe, the drivers are road rageful and wreckless and all you see are accidents everywhere. Chicago is a very very dangerous and TOXIC ENVIRONMENT, don’t come here or bring your family here. Don’t get me wrong, there are beautiful ppl here but they are outnumbered by assholes and murderers. They have red light cameras everywhere to make money off the citizens because the politicians steal monies and the budget isn’t enough. My granny died here at 102, I learned from her this city has always been violent n corrupted and will always be. As a Blackman I’ve been all over this country and to foreign countries, no place is this bad. I love all humans regardless of race or gender. If you just have to come to Illinois (which I hope u don’t) pleaseeeee avoid any interactions with the City of Chicago, move to a far off suburban area for the safety of u and you’re family. The best thing I ever did in life was leave here, the worst thing I ever did was come back.
I live in Peoria Illinois. Basically mini Chicago. It's pretty rough and bad here. I would bless god if he gave me the chance to move. i don't want to be in this state
I thought I was going to have ,a panic attack ,you giving me a panic attack 🙃! By watching this video ,pure evil 😈, pure hell. But when you enter ,my failing, state it say ,welcome to pure Michigan.
I watched these videos for some time now (which I find strangely relaxing, considering the environment). One thing I notice is that these 'extremely dangerous neighbourhoods' , seem most of the time quite, well,.not extremely aggressive. Is this because of seeing too many Deathwish movies (probably) with the idea of entering a graffity laden cityblock being instant suicide? or were the 70,80,90s actually so bad here that the violence 'self imploded'. It's a naive question of course, but still curious.
Like the wild, it's entirely different at night. In my experience ..crowds of strung out, hostile people encompassing your car as you approach a stop sign, others running different directions, shots popping at random. Human screams, lots of yelling, music, yellow eyes, explicit scenes all around...certain blocks/neighborhoods are horrific. The actual downtown is commercilized though...stereotypical...not nearly as bad as the hood. We should hope this person does not cruise around after dark. Safety first.
The westside is very different frm the SouthSide when you drive around the SouthSide u don’t see a lot of ppl outside but when you drive around the westside it’s always lots of ppl outside that’s why the westsides shootings and killings are so bad the murder rate on the westside is double the SouthSides murder rate westside is small which makes it even more dangerous the westside is just mostly young guys in little neighborhood sets that beef with other neighborhood sets in the area and when they run into each all chaos would break loose all they know is guns
What's crazy is I've been through the sketchiest streets and parts of LA at all hours of the day and honestly never felt threatened, but I look at these videos and just think to myself "fuck that" lol
Like I feel more comfortable sleeping with my tatted up cousins that are Mexicans from Texas than I do with my black cousins from Chicago idk I guess it's just me😕
The positive i noticed was traffic was light. Every time I've been in Chicago was for work and traffic was horrendous. Only time I recall no congested roads was at 3:00a.m. running south on Lake Shore Drive headed into town
weird cuz i've lived in chicago for over 25 yrs and other than rush hour, traffic isnt bad except on the express ways or downtown. and i wouldnt even call it bad on the city streets and i've never seen horrendous traffic on the neighborhood streets.

Fucking capitalism
@Trey Indica here's another funny story. Before Grenada his sister was outside sitting on the front stairs of the apartment they lived at and somebody dropped a television out of the window above her. It was her own family's television. It struck the side of her head and bounced off her shoulder and believe it or not the television didn't break.

Human screams, lots of yelling, music, yellow eyes, explicit scenes all around...certain blocks/neighborhoods are horrific. The actual downtown is commercilized though...stereotypical...not nearly as bad as the hood. We should hope this person does not cruise around after dark. Safety first.
The freaks come out at night bro. It’s the day time and he’s cursing constantly. Bet it would be COMPLETELY different at like 11pm
wow its a lot of people out for a violent area being from a crazy city myself i couldn't see being out there without a gun smh
Because of trees and for some reason it gets darker in the daytime the more east you go
Like I feel more comfortable sleeping with my tatted up cousins that are Mexicans from Texas than I do with my black cousins from Chicago idk I guess it's just me😕
The positive i noticed was traffic was light.
Sadly, zero law enforcement or city services. Property owners are sure as hell paying taxes and getting next to nothing in return.
