Thanks! This is from the Dark Urge playthrough. I also edited in together some lines from when the Dark Urge dies fighting Orin and is brought back and cursed to go mad. So this doesn't show up exactly like this in the normal playthrogh, but those lines of "you'll flit back into my heart" are just too good to leave out.
He is selfish and full of himself when he is afraid and feels like he doesn't have control of his life. I think what people like about his character is that he evolves over time and learns that he doesn't have to use arrogance as a shield against the world. A lot of people see themselves in him. They see that he changes when people show kindness to him and give people hope that they too can change. Most of his behavior is a trauma response that he needs to grow through.
Because it's all an act. It's not real. Deep down he's a caring, scared, and damaged individual. Also people empathize with his story. He's had s tough life.

I don’t understand what people see in this guy, he comes off as selfish and pompous to me in this.

I think if you're looking for a selfless and humble person you need to look for someone who isn't an elf, lol
