- Eminence and shadow is a personal favorite of mine, a story so badass overpowered flex inducing mastering every Isekai anime trope and evolving it to a Super Saiyan level even further beyond... It's the perfect amount of edginess paired with some of the most fun casts and an incredibly badass main character Cid Kagenou That makes this a master class of storytelling and so much more than just your generic "overpowered main character trapped in another world and gets a harem" setting... especially in eminence in shadow season 2 episode 3

Nux is going to lose his mind over the next Arc. It is basically a combination of everything he loves.
I love how Cid was trying to protect all thr gold he had taken but Beta mistakenly thought he was trying to protect them.
That is the joke of the misunderstanding but honestly speaking she was also correct, he was in fact protecting them all, which was easy but at the cost of the gold he's stolen,
Beta overthinks it and dramatizes it but in essence he did protect them over the gold.
I love how this whole fight, shadow was slowed down by all the gold coins he was carrying.
Aurora almost going atomic was SUCH a FUCKING TEASE, and I shouldn’t be shocked Bc it’s just a staple of this show now 😂

My man there could have Global AoE reversed the vampire curse from the moment he got on the city, but he CHOSE to bide his time and wait for a strong foe to flex on, and an audience to bask on his performance... what an absolute legend!
@Nuxanor I hope you see this. Posession and the progenitor vampires are related to the ultimate witch (Aurora, the original demon), they're branches of beings from the world Cid is in now adapting to her blood.
Cid saw Aurora's history in the fight with her, which is the part we saw, but she also saw his life and his mind at the same time but that wasn't shown to us in perspective.
Combining these, Claire has part of the blood of the witch in her (she's previously a possessed) and gained the blood of the progenitor vampires (getting bitten by the Queen), creating a stronger connection to the original than anyone else has had in some time, thus allowing Aurora to effectively communicate with Claire. It doesn't hurt that she also has some of Cid's magic and so does the Witch/Aurora from their fight. \
Aurora used her images of Cid's world to contact Claire as she thought it would put Claire at ease but obviously, Claire hasn't been to Cid's original world. But we will be, soon.

I would argue it isn't even a power fantasy, just disguised as one. Cid isn't a self-insert, and in fact is portrayed as somewhat of a psychopath with his actions often having severe negative consequences on the people around him which he simply doesn't care about - meanwhile, the characters we're more likely to identify and empathize with (such as Claire, Alexis, Rose, etc) have a running theme of in some way lacking the power to fulfill their ambitions or responsibilities, as opposed to Cid who has the power to do anything he could possibly desire but has no sense of responsibility whatsoever
The Eminence in Shadow is a power fantasy from Cid's perspective (who the author made sure we're less likely to default to, instead looking at him from the outside looking in as an entertaining force of nature), but from every other character's perspective it uses power fantasy tropes to tell a story about finding your own power and challenging the world with it, even in the face of overwhelming forces beyond your understanding
Cid is the breathing trope of Almighty Idiot and makes it everyone else’s problem.
Only the story bends itself around his idiocy instead of against it.
I wouldn’t give it that much credit about the side characters since it’s taken up by retelling the Cid gag of the power-fantasy protagonist being a self-serving lucky idiot with everyone else falling over to frame his mess.
Cid isn't really an idiot, he's more oblivious than dumb. He's actually quite practically intelligent in a lot of ways, and came to his power through intense training and diligence, research, trial and error, etc, and his battle intelligence in particular is off the freaking charts. But he is a dummy when it comes to understanding complex schemes, and separating reality from fiction, which is almost understandable in context; would you believe the story you know you've been MAKING UP your entire life was becoming reality? He definitely has some sociopathic traits; in the books where we get more of his internal monologues he frequently mentions how little he cares about innocent casualties, doing the right thing, saving people, etc.
It's a big cast of awesome characters, but he's definitely the main protagonist we're supposed to empathise with IMO. The power fantasy is more unique than it appears at first, because he's an OP dork. Total cringe edgelord. So he's EVEN MORE relatable for the average person because he isn't a classic hero, he's a loser with delusions (reality) of grandeur.

His motives are basic and scummy, his obliviousness defies reason and he’s so divorced from reality it’s not even relatable.

@@rustkarl Some fair points, although I interpret him differently, I should have said 'relate to' not empathise with, as I think that's the more relevant of the two. Still, we all have different personalities and backgrounds, and characters we can relate to - so Cid isn't it for you, doesn't mean that's the case for everyone. 🤷♂
It's cool if the series/MC isn't your bag, I love him though. 😁
@@ArenDsiirealso you gotta think about the fact that he’s devoted himself to being the eminence in shadow. He’s basically method acting as an all powerful being. It’s like when Joaquin Phoenix did crazy shit for the role of over but Cid goes way harder and never break’s character unless it’s his inner monologue. The man is actually delusional and crazy as shit. If Cid wanted to play the role of say Superman or some other hero then he would probably care about casualties and property damage much more because that’s would the hero would do. He doesn’t care about right or wrong, just playing the role he’s come up with.

Diabolos. That's how she's there. She just picked Claire cause vampire + possessed blood = Diabolos blood and cause she is a Cid fanboy.
The demon lord is a fan of Shadow. He thinks she's just some girl he met and had a sparring match with once. That's this anime in a nutshell.
Why the read more? It's not the remotest spoiler at all. It was literally said at the end of holy city arc after heavy hints/foreshadowing throughout the arc.
She IS the actual Diabolos demon based on the text in the manga. Both the old blood and the possessed blood came from her originally, and that's why she said she is the original.

It's sad they don't add the sound effects to the English dub; in the original Japanense Cid's line at 23:11 has epic reverb; when I first heard it it gave me full-body chills! The details in the sound design in this anime are truly awesome - like the jingling and how heavy Shadow's steps are at 01:52 because of all the coins he stole. 🤭
Ngl I think this is my favorite anime now, and I've been around the block. This show just feels so refreshing 😂

Same here. As someone who's watched anime since the start of the 90s, I love it when people stop being too nihilistic about their entertainment and pretending to be superior about it, and instead learn to enjoy something unironically again. This anime grinds the gears of elitists because it ticks all of the elements of what they've deemed a bad anime, yet it's consistently good and defies their expectations.
Watching nux get all excited about lawless town arc when he doesn't even realize episodes 5-6 are even better. No spoilers, but we're gonna have some strong contenders for best enemy humiliations and best girl.
I dunno if she is the sole best girl, but she is probably tied with alpha. She's so dang adorable.
this dialogue is goat. The lawless city is my piggy bank. You get the whole world taking themselves seriously as fuck and you get this guy saying shit like that lmfao. He fits his troll friends well in a way lol.

Its crazy how many people don't seem to understand what we learned in Sanctuary in season 1 is why Aurora can be in the mind of someone with possessed blood.
I love that Nux's title was EXACTLY what I thought when I saw this episode.
It takes all the generic troops and doses them without any forgiveness but it also handles the troops in a fun way even if it's just another Iseki that's how many view it... It also does it in a way that doesn't make it feel like you've already seen it done. John Smith is by far the best arc in my opinion.

I love how shadow is the most genial and righteous eminence in shadow while Cid is the most ignorant, demented and maniac Isekai protagonist ever. Yes, all ends well most of the time, but people's lives are worth less to Cid than to Ainz... YOU KNOW, THE LICH???
I just realized but for an Isekai, the magic in this world isn’t like other Isekais. People aren’t throwing fire balls or shooting out lightning, it mostly just physical enhancements and healing, most magic like things we’ve seen that isn’t some form of physical/body enhancement are Vampire manipulating blood, Iris artifact fire sword, Sanctuary showing “memories”, and of course Shadow slime and Atomic. So most “spells” like magic seems to only be able to be done through some artifact in this Isekai.
It is generic, only it's intentionally so. It's self-aware, even though Cid isn't, lol. It's kind of a parody of isekai shenanigans once you add up all the exaggerated bits. I frikkin' love it.
To compare shadow with a Keter class SCP would be an understatement

21:05 fun little detail I like about this is she saying the All range atomic and not just the I am atomic because she only saw that one not the I am atomic only the I am the all range atomic and if your confused I’ll try to explain. The “I am Atomic” is the same but it adds a dome and you can protect a certain part but the “I am all range atomic” just destroys everything without a barrier

I don't think Nux realizes that Aurora is the memory of the Demon King. She lives on in the Demon blood of her descendants. And come on ... their called the POSSESSED for a reason

Okay, so the explanation she gave is this. She had a bloodline with power in it, but when time passed, they split into 'vampire' and 'demon' blood... Is the general vibe I got from that. Essentially, she isa combination of two split bloodlines that were originally one, so she has the power of the original, but the evolution paths the two underwent clash, making them unstable in one person. So, while she is essentially at the point of being the next Aurora, she is also lacking the necessary reading material to be Aurora and has to deal with the instability as well.
But that's just a very short explanation.

I like the anime but one of the pet peeves is "Hood = 100% Disguise". You can clearly tell it's him but all characters are "Who is this?!". If I remember right, atleast in the manga he has an actual mask
