What makes Cid overpowered is his responses of power is completely dependent on his opponent's ego, which also makes all of his fights fun. If his opponents don't have much of an ego, he'll take them out in more straightforward ways; but if his opponents talk and think about how unfair everything is, he'll show them a level of unfairness beyond their ability to comprehend. Cid understands that to flex, he must attack the other person's ego.

I agree with Ani, what makes Shadow OP is basically dedication. Without it, he would never had a fraction of his power, magic or not. Never saw another MC who completely disregard the main plot, makes the writer his pet, and all just to be cool. He doesn't even care if someone sees him or not, otherwise wouldn't be a "shadow". He even says in the last ep that he should be less conspicuous which is hilarious looking at the damage on the background. Peace

Funny enough though skill is the actual reason Cid is op. In terms of magic Aurora actually has a lot more but she’s actually surprised at how much magic he apparently has and thinks it’s more than her. He has such a mastery and control of his magic beyond anyone in his world that an attack that would take 1x magic would take 1/10 of the magic to use due to him not wasting any excess magic, that’s why the slime suit was created to fully conduct his magic. Even in physical stats Beatrix isn’t incomparable to Cid like we saw. He used some like similar to Touka in Chivalry of a Failed Knight of manipulating the processing ability of the brain. In the fight with the rain he blended in to the sound of nature/rain and Beatrix didn’t even notice he was behind her that’s why he seemingly disappears to her, not because he blitz her but bc he actually just walks past her without her noticing bc she’s so focused on Shadow that she’s tunneled visioned on him without noticing the sound of the rain which he blends in with. Same with Iris fight and etc but let’s be honest skill or no skill she kinda just rolled and flexed on her the whole fight. Big Iris L.

Also, a note Nux, this dude (AniNews) goes through all the light novels, which is why he knows what Cid's goals are. So when he says that Cid is yearning for a good battle, that's because the inner dialogue in Cid's head actually says that.

    • @Unsurpassable
      @Unsurpassable Год назад +17

U right bro, but i don't think he will listen to this, he isn't wrong but he already have an image to "what makes cid op".
I personally think that Nux explains "why" cid is OP and Ani explains "how" he does to be OP

    • @crimson3859
      @crimson3859 Год назад +17

@@Unsurpassable Nux is only looking at the end result being Cid still at 100% HP and his opponent at 0%. He's misses the point of the process in which Cid does that, which is what AniNews is talking about here. Cid matches his moves to his opponent and only uses the absolute minimum amount of magic, movement, and strength necessary to perfectly counter them. After the opponent has fully exhausted everything they're capable of Cid then finishes them off with the most overwhelming and cool looking move possible. He only ends the fight after he has fully analyzed and systematically dismantled everything the opponent is capable of. This is why his so many of his opponents seem mentally broken after fighting him, all their efforts and experience in combat is overwhelmed by an amount of effort and experience so large they know it is impossible for them to ever accumulate. This is only made worse when Cid uses atomic and they realize he also has a capacity and control of magic just as far apart from their own. We see very clearly with Iris. She was extremely shook when she realized the skill difference in the tournament with Mundane/Shadow. But the atomic at the end is what broke her since there is not a single aspect of combat where she can ever hope to challenge Shadow. It's why Beatrix tells Iris that there are entities that mortals simply cannot hope to rival and to just not think about it. If Iris finds out that Shadow is legit a normal human boy she would either go insane or find some way into deluding herself that he's not human.
This is never explained in the anime, so if you haven't read the LN and manga you won't get it as we see with Nux here. The only time it is referenced in the anime is when Alexia says that Cid's swordplay has reached the level of transcendence yet is ordinary at it's core. Cid doesn't use any secret techniques or difference in physical capability to overpower his opponent. He reads them, predicts their every move, and counters them with minimal effort. To anyone other than Cid it simply seems like Cid has divine foresight, but Alexia realizes that it is actually an absolute mastery of swordplay on a level so high that it mimics the abilities of a god such as being able to see the future. That is why she calls it a transcendent realm of mastery. Alexia only realizes this because it is the same fighting style she is seeking, one that doesn't rely on a naturally large mana pool or any talents but rather is an accumulation of knowledge, experience, and training.
Nux isn't getting this because he has already formed an opinion based on the information in the anime. He's not really wrong either because the anime doesn't tell you this stuff. But it kind of annoyed me that he's saying that AniNews is wrong when AniNews is clearly basing his opinion off of a larger amount of information (LN, Manga, Anime) than Nux is.

I think the point being made in the AniNews video is that the overwhelming magic he got from isekai doesn't matter he was overpowered on Earth and all he needed was literally the existence of magic to become tactically stronger than everyone in the isekai world. Him being physically stronger than his opponents allows him to beat them but not overpower them the way he can by using his knowledge and barely any actual magic.

Cid is so OP even lord Nuxanor doesn't understand him.
From my observations he doesn't soley take plesure from acting an an Eminence, but also from planing futre cool and eminence-like actions and seeing the results of them. He also isn't always acting the part of either of his fake characters. Egzample would be the two aforementioned situations. In all three media including anime you can see how he fails to hide the glee he feels when lisening to other characters talk about his latest Shadow stunt. Even thou he is willing to sacrefice everything to play the part he still takes little plesures like the 'conversation' during the battle and talks with Alexia, where he reveals a bit of his true selfe. A part of him that is neither Cid nor Shadow but the chunibyo teenager.
Also the part about him twisting reality isn't something that deserver much attention in my oppinion. Ainz does the same but he is yust aveare of it. What I find the most interasting is the seperate POVs it creates. The cringy, entertaining, chounibyo side where Cid roleplays and the POV of everone else that experience the concequences his actions create which is the emotional, serious and main (in my opinion) story.
Now i have more to say but the coment is streaching too long so yea.

"Kageno" can be split into "Kage no" which means "Shadow of" or "of Shadow"

If you gave a two year old unlimited materials and budget, they could design a bridge across the Atlantic that could carry dinosaurs. _Anyone_ is able to design a bridge that stands. But an Architect is someone who can design a bridge that *barely* stands.
Cid doesn't just build victories; he _engineers_ victories. He isn't handed as much power as is necessary by the plot and just throws as much as is necessary at the problem until it falls over. Cid crafts the most careful, accurate of blueprints and designs a victory with the most efficient and aestheticly pleasing use of his virtually unlimited power budget.

You can say he thinks of the results of various scenarios for the sake of making it look cool, but he takes all the fights seriously as he is looking for a way to win in the most overpowering manner. Actually cid is just such a fighting genius that his training methods are so meta that he surpasses the entire verse despite having similarly no innate talent at all, light novel readers will know that cid is training since he was a baby and got reincarnated and he literally never stopped training since them, in the light novel he also says that he is always manipulating magic inside his body on a subconscious level as a form of training, he is training even when he is not doing anything, he isn't strong because of the plot but because he trains like a obssessed lunatic and is always developing new methods to get stronger that no one can even conceive off, keep in mind that this is the same guy that hit his head onto a rock, crucified himself, killed bikers and criminals even on his previous life, stopped taking baths, fasted and converted himself to a plethora of religions just to attain magic and practice his combat skills 😂😂😂
Saying that his power comes from the plot is a disrespect to his character, the plot only makes it so that his made up bs is real, but all of his power and fighting prowess is entirely his own credit

i have a theory of the fight against the princess iris. in the first episode while cid is dueling his sister, we see him moving faster than his sister can see, then returning to normal. during the duel with iris, it shows her reactions to images shown in the same grayed out screen as the earlier fight with his sister. my theory is that he can move so fast that would cut iris, heal her, then return to position so that it would seem like he never moved, just to fuck with her, like dio and polnereff.

One thing I would like to say:
Yes, Cid is basically rewriting the world according to his whims to fit his desires. But the way Nux says it makes it sound deliberate. It isn't. To points that give proof. 1: Early on when the show is vocalizing his thoughts, it clearly shows he thinks the girls are just playing along with him for his sake. Not actually serious. When they leave he thinks they are just growing up and don't want to play that game any more but don't want to hurt his feelings.
2: When he is in the Sanctuary trying to pull the sword out and fails. He expects the hero of the "story" to show up and do it. But instead its the villain that shows up. The "variation of the formula". He is genuinely surprised by this. It is still what he wants but the surprise that he got the variation shows that its not intentional. Rather than him actively warping the world for his own sake it would be more accurate to say that the world seems to exist for his sake and actively responds to his desires without him even knowing that is what is happening. Which is honestly for the best. He wants to the The Eminence in Shadow for real. So him creating the world and its events as some god would be counterproductive.
But this is my take as an anime only person. I may pick up the light novels later. But for now this is based on what I have seen and inferred from the anime and comments around it.

He simply doesnt care to find out as its unimportant.
All he cares about is going somewhere to act either of his 2 roles for his own satisfaction.
He is broken enough to not have to worry about anything that arises from his actions and so the world is left to deal with it.

That is why he will never use his full strength at the start of the battle. Because victory must look effortless and cool, but also he must look like he not even tried to be serious.
Not a big blast at the start, which can looks like he cares enough to tried, but lazily stopping the sword with a finger like Aizen.

To me it is not about his overall technique and efficiency at using magic being so great that he overpowers everyone else, but that his overall technique and efficiency at using magic are so great that he has almost infinite freedom to CHOOSE how he overpowers aka flexes on everyone else.
As Nux said, Cid doesn't actually need to try to battle his opponents. The only "struggle" he ever faces is how to most stylishly and one sidedly finish off his opponents. His delusional ambitions and training have quite literally made him so "overpowered", that every battle is never truly a proper fight to him, but just an opportunity for him to leisurely show off how ridiculously overwhelming his eminence in shadow character is in every imaginable aspect.

You guys are just ignoring the objective facts and only looking at the comedy side.

The best way to describe Cid, in my opinion, is that he isn’t fighting these people from the perspective of the strongest person. Rather, he’s fighting them from the perspective of a spectator to a fight between the stronger person and someone else.
He knows just how much stronger he is compared to everyone else, it’s what he’s been aiming for this entire time, but that overwhelming strength isn’t everything. It’s about how he uses and displays it that matters most to him in comparison. Sure you can have the power of a literal atomic bomb, but what reason is there to have that type of power is the whole world doesn’t know it? If the whole world doesn’t see it? Experience it to some capacity? Understand it and, in that same regard, understand just how far beneath you they really are? It’s why, no matter how much of a display he chooses to put on, Shadow never loses.
You brought up the Witch of Calamity, which is also my favorite fight second only to the one between him and Beatrice, but I have my own take on that. She didn’t compare to him and that’s why he managed to defeat her as easily as he did in the end. It was all just the spectacle. It wasn’t about seeing how she fought or gauging her power. It was about putting on a show that not only he could be pleased with, but that would make sure everyone realized in that very moment just how much more powerful he was at the end of the day. He’s the most powerful being that we know of in the anime at this point, but he displays it in the way an actor would do so because that’s the main difference between him and other OP protagonists.
It’s not about being the strongest anymore because he’s already the strongest. It’s about how he shows everyone else that he is the strongest.

i do agree with this point
Cid peaked in his old world, because of Natural limits
in this world where Natural limits are much highier, people have not learned there are hard limits and methods to work around them
while his opponents are making these big over dramatic swings with power behind them, Cid knows the % of power he needs to deflect it. and often spends the first bit of the fight blocking and dodging (talking with swords as he calls it) and actively get impressed or disappointed by this. acknowledging that Alexia has a "simple" sword style and that Aurora the witch is what "Talent" is. wondering what her real peak with training would be.
the whole Red pill thing, is from the idea that too much magic causes damage to your body
while Cid is like... are you sure?
and states that if you know what you're doing that issue is a non-factor. he even figured out how to undo it. and Teaches the rest of Shadow Garden how to use magic without issue too
you could even say that him Guessing the Heros and the Cult thing, was him reading context clues he thought he was over analyzing.
not only is he OP from a power stand point
he is also OP from an intelligence stand point, too the point he doesn't realize it

I think Nux, while right about the whole "Wanting to make a fight a spectacle for his Eminence in Shadow persona", I also believe he is basing his information more on the anime. This is understandable, not everyone has time to read the light novels or the manga. However, I don't think AniNews gets it entirely right either, in the light novels we get a great deal more insight into what Cid is thinking when he is fighting, (the quotes he uses on the screen), but he also forgets why Cid got so good at it. Cid wants to overpower everyone sure, but he also wants to find a worthy opponent, someone who will push him to go full power, someone who will make him show that yes, he is overpowered, but once someone can challenge him the gloves come off and he annihilates them too. "I am atomic" is not a single use ability, I am more than certain he could drop more than 5 in a fight if he wants to. Like the fight with the Witch of Calamity Aurora, she pushed him just enough that he had to stomp her harder to make him look even cooler/stronger/scarier to everyone watching.
TLDR: He wants someone strong enough to push him, maybe get a hit or two and then he goes "playtimes over" and literally just annihilates them just like Nux pointed out at the end, he uses just enough power to beat them while still seeming to not break a sweat. (Yes I have watched the anime and read the manga/lightnovels. No this does not make me an expert, but I also don't have a RUclips channel to rant on either lol.)

what sets Cid apart from most other Isekai protagonist aside from maybe Lugh is that unlike other Isekai Protagonist which are completely carried by their overpowered stats, is that Cid actually knows how to fight and get's more mileage from gaining magic than an average joe like you or me it's like how whenever Batman get's superpowers in the alternate universes he becomes an absolute menace Like Dawnbreaker Batman or Speedforce Batman.
It's an interesting dimension of Isekai that doesn't get explored nearly enough, the only 2 Isekais to lightly address this is Skeleton Knight, and Overlord, where despite being undisputedly overpowered, whenever Arc isn't fighting generic Mooks or demon beast, he actually gets his ass handed to him by more experienced fighters, Maples mother who used to be a Sword Saint regularly trounces him in their training sessions, because even though he is a max level character and can cast all the skills, his real-life battle experience and skill is still that of a normal person from earth. Ainz is also aware of this flaw he knows he doesn't have an optimized build for PVP which is why he's always looking for new ways to increase his power, whether by learning martial arts (a unique set of skills that weren't in Yggdrassil) or developing new forms of magic, in case another player or being with comparable power ever appears in the future, because having Max level and all the spells wouldn't be enough against someone like Lord Touch Me or another player of comparable skill and level.

The trope does tend to show up more in VR gaming anime/manga where you'll have characters who know how to fight in the real world destroy everyone who relies on the the in-game skills their characters have. AniNews got a little lost in his analises there. But I think the point was not how powerful he got because the Isekai, but how strong Cid himself was, regardless to where he got Isekaied.
In other words, Cid is a Isekai protagonist in the True sense of the role, instead of a Power Fantasy Hero who just so happens to come from another world!
Most Isekai nowadays are just a nobody who receives special powers during the transition (or after). What wouldn't be different from picking any random little shit already existing in that world and giving them powers.
While Cid got the same starting line as everyone else, but, armed with all his expertise acquired in the previous life. That allowed him to go beyond the common sense of the new world, and push the boundaries of what's possible in this new environment.
In Short, Cid got no Cheats, but still became OP!
Putting it in a analogy, in the Isekai Gatcha, other protagonists are whales with Super Ultra Rare pulls. While Cid is a F2P user who didn't even used the free Starter Pack Gift!

I don't think he technically brought that into the world since it existed before he thought it up if you catch my drift.
