Let's talk about price without knowing the price. That's a good idea!
Yeah this is a absolute trash way to review something. LTT has shown that they don't care about their reviews. Their reviews are so sloppy compared to other tech channels. Simply editing in a 1 second prerecorded face reaction to the price is not good enough. If Nvidia had come in with the 3080Ti at $1400, would this review have been the same? What if they came in a $800? Price is extremely important.
LTT is great for entertaining videos on new and unique tech. It has become really bad for actual reviews of products.
what are you guys talking about, the rtx 3080 ti is way lower price than the 3090, in my country the rtx 3090 is 29 thousand reais, the 3080 ti is 14 thousand '-'
@@jonlaw16 Or you know they tell you what you need to know about the product itself and you decide if it is worth it depending on the price.
The tech channels shouldn't decide for you they should give you the tools to make the decision yourself.
Especially now where price is fluctuating so much that msrp is absolutely pointless information.
I know know that the 3080ti is a good card, I know how she compares to other offerings on the market and I can based on that in consideration of my own economic standing decide at what price I buy one if at all.
Nvidia changed the msrp from 1000$ to 1200$ immediately prior to release, reviewers were under the impression it was going to be $1000.
Either way, people need to stop whining about price, GPU's have been selling, a lot, at over double their MSRP, complain about scalpers all you want, but manufacturers have raised their prices significantly, and they're still getting scooped up and resold at huge markups, meaning MSRP is nowhere close to fair for these cards. Does it suck? Fuck yes, but that's literally how the market works, it's supply and demand. Demand exceeds supply, significantly, therefore the ONLY solution to the disparity is to raise the price to find equilibrium. 1200$ for the 3080ti sounds absurd, but if you look at the market, it's being scalped for significantly lower markup than the rest of the lineup, meaning it is not selling at as high of a markup, MEANING the 1200$ price is far, far closer to "correct" for the market conditions, than the 3080, and 3090.
@@tooitchy I found a store that had some cards in store as they adjust pricing depending on how many cards they have left. Funny thing was that the 3080 ti is cheaper than the 3080 there.
"At a much lower price"
Retails for $1199
but it is... assuming a 3090 MSRP is close to $1500 this is 80% of of the price for nearly identical performance. --- - compared to the 3080 it's a much higher price.... .. .. I think not enough people are comparing it to both cards.
@@cecrambler You compare it to the 3080, not the 3090, which makes it utter shit value.
@@maccy2601993 why compare it to the 3080? 3080's are going for about $2K rn.
These are going for $2200, and 3090s are going for close to $3K.

@@maccy2601993 yeah, the 380ti isn't worth that little.
Market dictates value, and the market has spoken. These cards are worth over $2000 given current supply and demand.

Linus put too much money into his business and created a media company, and now he needs revenue stream from a dying platform that he relies on. So he hires people that can generate clicks and tiktok trash videos to make his revenue of clout cash and keep the lights on. Instead of downsizing and reassessing his income, he doubles-down on the garbage content that relies on 9-13 year olds to click, like, sub, and buy merch. Which is exactly how we got into this mess of unethical shitty social media platforms that bank on halfwits to buy into lies and spend their money on overpriced crap. Welcome to 2021. In comparison with a 3090 it is a bargain. Also if you were to sell the card you will probably double your money.

6:59 Linus made a decent point that nvidia should be able to manufacture many more of these than the 3090 simply due to the 50% cut in vRAM. If their goal is higher production, that would help a bit to deal with the crippling shortages.
@@coralinealgae This card is still useless. It costs 71% more than the 3080 (sometimes it's 100% more, mind you) but only has 2-10% in performance gains in gaming. And in 3D applications (my professional area) it's also useless *exactly because of the 50% less VRAM than the 3090%*.
Linus was focusing on comparing it with the 3090, which is already terrible value, and as if the 3080 didn't exist.
@@coralinealgae And as he said, that is assuming there are enough GPU chips to go around. Now nvidia is also manufacturing the new CMP series and they are not going to reduce the production of any of the 3000 series already in production probably. And 1G vram chips are much more easy to acquire. Its just 2GB more vRAM than a 3080. The 3080Ti is not a performance slouch, its great, but at what cost?? And as Linus pointed out so few people bought the 2080Ti, and the 3080Ti is again for the few people who has enough disposable income to spend.

Yea I agree, after seeing gamersnexus......I can't help but feel skeptical.....its almost like they are complete polar opposites!
How can I trust LTT ever again after this train wreck?
You can't, nor should you ever have. Linus has been an nvshill for a very long time.
Simple - you can’t. And you shouldn’t have before this because unbiased “reviews” are long gone.
Bruh you shouldn't watch a review for the trust value though. Reviews have 2 main things, data and opinions (interpretation of data). If the data is correct it should be verifiable with other reviewers, and the interpretation of it you should be able to see if they are consistent, have flaws or if it's illogical. You can even ignore their opinions fully since you can do the thinking for yourself if the data is provided.
Trust in this context is irrelevant and unnecessary. If they release a product however... I'd probably perceive it with a negative bias since they've lost touch of their target audience.
So over dramatic. Lmao

These went on sale for $2799 in Australia last night. I had an MSI 3080ti in my cart, allocated, ready to buy, but I couldn't justify the $800 premium over the 3080 with only a 7-10% performance increase. What you've said in the video is mostly correct about performance and stock availability for manufacture, but your recommendation of this card for the price increase vs performance is an absolute meme.
"no brainer" is the wording he used, I believe 😂
Honestly I think Linus just got hung up on the fact that it's basically a cheaper more efficient 3090 for 99% of use cases. Having said that, I agree. The only reason I bought one myself is because the FE in a local drop here was priced the same as basic-model 3080s cost when in stock in the stores here.
Recommending this over the 3080 is stupid but nvidia want to show that they could beat amd for almost the same price also they were targeting people who were thinking of buying a 3090 for gaming

Yeah its a money grab.
It isn't necessarly bad in the current climate. That depends, among others, on how NVIDIA handles it, whether it diverts more 3090s to it or more 3080s. And to be honest I don't at all trust Nvidias claims here, the fact that they're asking 1200$ for this card and have the balls to claim it's primarily to help gamers and not to increase their cut of the current market all but proves their motivation and likely strategy.
It is, however, any way you put it, desastrous for the market after the current situation.
Because the 3090 already saw Nvidia massively increase their profit span, without the 3090 having many of the traditional advantages of the Titans.
The 3080Ti costs Nvidia almost the same to make as the 3080, but the consumer costs are far closer to the 3090. And that's not just Scalper prices, but Nvidia MSRP. Which means it'll continue to be a thing after the current situation, they obviously don't aim to reduce pricing after the current situation stops.
If Nvidia were only trying to increase their cut in the current climate (which I'm actually somewhat okay with), they'd not increase their MSRP but they'd just hike the price they're selling the cards to their partners for.

1. Just because something is named "Ti", it doesnt mean that it has to reflect the pricing that it should be in. Products naming scheme changes and so will the prices, and we know Nvidia nor AMD NOR Intel is the best at naming schemes.
2. This is essentially a 3090-lite, give or take like within a 3% margin in terms of specs sheet on paper. You're telling me that you can get a 3090 that is priced cheaper than a 3090? That is a heck of a deal, granted, if we are talking about MSRP, WHICH NOTHING is being sold at RIGHT NOW!
So if you can snatch this baby up AT MSRP, and you have the means to do so, then this is a great deal, but does that mean everyone needs to have one? HECK NO! This is not made for the "average" consumer, especially if you're a gamer!
Trust me, GPUs can do A LOT of things on top of just video editing/streaming or gaming, gaming is just the tip of the iceberg of what GPUs can do, not to even mention mining crypto.

MSRP is wholly irrelevant currently though. Any product launched in the next 18 months is most likely not going to carry MSRP price and by the time the prices level out it will have received RRP price drops or new options on the market. So the best thing you can do is compare based on other options available on today so the consumer can look at actual retail prices and see if the performance and feature set is worth that much coin compared to other options.
