To.all the people asking questions. On many vehicles the PCV valve is quite easy to get access to. On some it’s more of a job for an experienced mechanic as the PCV valve is part of the intake manifold or valve cover. Regardless, the PCV valve is part of regular maintenance. I would say it should be replaced every 40,000-50,000 miles depending on the vehicle. In my case the PCV valve is right on the top of the engine and easy to get to, remove and replace. With this PCV valve it can be taken out without any special skills or tools and assessed by shaking it. If it makes a “ clicking sound “ like there’s a small ball bearing inside smacking around the PCV is functioning. Likely for me a new PCV valve costs less that $30 but in some PCV systems the whole intake manifold needs to be replaced ( $$$$). If you have a PCV that is easy to replace don’t wait until you have a possible PCV issue as a bad PCV valve can cause several other costly repairs.

Are you a mechanic or DIY ? A mechanic told me there are signs that your pcv valve is bad like high idling , oil leaks and air leaks . Are these signs a fool proof sure way to tell if pcv valve is bad ? I've got oil leaks but not the other signs . Major pain to replace mine . I've got to take off imtake manifol and a few other things or pay a shop . 11 Camry 2ARFE 2.5 L It's right by the intake manifold and HYDRAULIC POWER STEERING PUMP . IN your opinion , do I really need to replace it ? IT"S really bad ??

Just had my mechanic clean and seal my breather box and replace all the parts. Tubes, grommet, O Ring etc.
95 Honda Del Sol. This was the first time ever we did this to the car,. I am 2nd owner from about 98.
Seems to run much smoother. Does this help Gas Mileage? And does this help with Horse Power?

Cleaning and sealing the breather box, along with replacing components like tubes, grommets, and O-rings in your 1995 Honda Del Sol, can indeed contribute to a smoother running engine. These maintenance steps help ensure proper air flow and pressure regulation within the engine's ventilation system.
      1. Improved Gas Mileage: Yes, this maintenance can potentially improve gas mileage. A well-maintained engine runs more efficiently. When the breather box and associated components are in good condition, it ensures that there is proper air flow and mixture, which can lead to more complete combustion of fuel. This efficiency can result in better fuel economy.
      2. Increased Horsepower: While the direct impact on horsepower might not be significant, ensuring that these components are in good shape can help the engine perform at its optimum level. A clean and properly functioning breather system ensures that the engine is not bogged down by any form of air flow restriction or contamination, which can slightly enhance the overall performance and efficiency of the engine, potentially contributing to better horsepower output.

I have a 2009 mazda cx7 and im getting alot of smoke coming from the exhaust and the smell of burning oil and wondering can it be the pcv valve

    • @HonestMechanicChannel

Hi. If your 2009 Mazda CX-7 is emitting a lot of smoke from the exhaust and there's a noticeable smell of burning oil, it could indeed be related to a faulty PCV (Positive Crankcase Ventilation) valve. A malfunctioning PCV valve can cause oil to enter the combustion chamber, where it burns and produces smoke. However, this is just one possibility.
Other potential causes for these symptoms include:
      1. Worn engine oil seals or gaskets leading to oil leaks.
      2. Oil overfill or incorrect oil type, causing oil to burn in the combustion chamber.
      3. Worn piston rings or cylinder walls, allowing oil to seep into the combustion chamber.

Hello, i have the EPC light on and a warning of a maximum 4000rpm and engine light on on skoda 1.5tsi, on OBD i got the code p227900 an intake airflow something error.
Can you help me what to do, how should i continue from here?

Hi @asaadbuqai1651, The EPC light stands for Electronic Power Control.
This indicator light monitors your vehicle’s electronic throttle control system, which is responsible for regulating air intake to the engine.
Since you are getting this code, I think you might have a vacuum leak, in order to see where the leak is I recommend doing a smoke test. you can do this yourself, relatively easy by watching a few videos.
Let me know if you have more questions. Thanks

    What is a pcv valve

    • @HonestMechanicChannel
      @HonestMechanicChannel  11 месяцев назад +2

The PCV (Positive Crankcase Ventilation) valve is a small one-way valve in a car’s engine. Its job is to release gases trapped in the crankcase (the lower part of the engine) to prevent pressure buildup. It also helps reduce emissions by directing these gases back into the combustion chamber to be burned off, improving engine efficiency and reducing air pollution. In simplest terms, it helps keep the engine in good condition and reduces air pollution.
