      @@kevandalzell7906 Rather it's because conservative states and cities drive their homeless out through cruel laws and treatment. Nothing easier than making it someone else's' problem'. Those people then migrate to the few places where their very existence isn't outlawed. Emphasis needs to be placed on making local administrations accountable for providing tangible/legally required basic support for those with demonstrable local connections.

    Me and my dad were on holidays in Canada for his business trip, we passed through some of the streets and we were very shocked at the homeless situation.

    Thanks for this research. It has really opened my eyes on homeless problems in the world. But one thing I can't understand is that 99% of people shown in the video seem to be struggling with drug problems.

      Non-drug problems likely preceded the drug problems. Drugs are often a coping mechanism to trauma.

      The reality is that very few people on the streets are "hard up" in the sense of having lost their job and now can't make ends meet. Almost all have untreated or undertreated mental illness and severe drug addictions.

    It is spreading from this East Vancouver area, into the core of Vancouver. Very stoned and scary people lurk in lanes and are rummaging the trash barrels. Then the average guy gets soaked 2 Grand or more for a peeny apartment, if you can find one. Dystopia, the name is Vancouver

    It really hasn't changed much very quiet today somethings up on welfare day and after there's a hangover period then all breaks loose again, but it's a reality of our society. It's nice to see professionals asking questions and helping out a tender touch can turn a person's life around. Weed is the only thing I do. Hopefully, your channel can help someone out good luck

    I'll never forget the first overdose I saw a few years ago. I was crossing at Hastings and Columbia and there was some guy running around screaming for help. I walked by and his gf was flat on the sidewalk and she was literally blue, then someone came running along with those OD kits. I thought for sure she was dead and was oddly disturbed with myself for just walking by. I went and checked out the 'market' and on the way back she was coming around and he was holding her and crying, saying they needed to get clean and that they're not doing drugs anymore. I often wonder what happened to them.

      the one that said they expired just may be correct that kind of addiction you just cannot get clean from, even from out patient care, the only real solution is to lock them up in psychiatric care, but sadly they authorities just keep pumping clean needles, safe injection and more which is only enabling this crisis...

      What happened to them you ask .......they went around the corner and smashed the window of a car and stole the CDs and hawked them for drugs and then they both died in the alley from an overdose a half hour later and GOOD F*CKING RIDDANCE TO THEM BOTH.

    I was in Vancouver about ten yearsago. It was a very beautiful, clean city. Beautiful scenery, etc. WHAT THE HELL HAPPENED. I had NO idea the city had gotten THIS BAD. GOD HELP US!!!

      You're out to lunch if you think this wasn't there ten years ago. I've been going downtown regularly for a long time now and it was like this even in the late 90's/early 2000s, though I won't argue it's worse now. But I don't think this video is much different from ten years ago.

      Same here. I moved from Europe to Australia, but after 5 years there, some family members convinced me it was better in Canada. I listened, paid the price of their misinformation. It’s a harsh life in Canada.

    Never forget that as recently as the 1950s and really even more recently than that both habitual drunkards and narcotics addicts were routinely committed to both state mental hospitals and even federal penitentiaries. Then also public vagrancy should be recriminalized. Although to be fair there is a severe shortage of SRO hotels and YMCA hotels not to mention homeless shelters.

    For those in power, drug addiction is not the most important problem; in fact, it's a very convenient tool to get rid of undesirable people. Why don't wealthy countries like the USA or Canada fight drug trafficking and illegal drug sales more effectively, instead of distributing syringes in a pseudo-merciful pose? I see it as the devil in sheep's clothing.
