I hate this band with a passion. I liked Neil Finn when he was in Split Enz with his brother but the morose drivel that he put out in Crowded House makes me hit the off button whenever I hear it.
The setting: 5th December 1993, Eindhoven, Netherlands. In our country known as the night Sinterklaas (let's just call it a variant on Santa Clause) goes around delivering gifts to children that have been good. A night when children will sing their children's songs for Sinterklaas and stuff themselves with seasonal candy 😎 The memory: That night Crowded House played a local concert hall. First half of the show: great atmosphere, brilliant musice, everybody enjoying themselves. Just before the break some ppl in the front row threw the band some of that seasonal candy. I'm guessing that the guys must have been asking backstage what this was about, because when they came back, Neil started a conversation about this special night for Dutch children. It didn't take the audience long to start one of those children's songs and one by one the band members joined in, jamming along with the crowd. I've been to many concerts big and small over the decades. But never ever has there been an atmosphere of just hangin' in a room together with family and friends (both audience and musicians alike) like that night.
@@garylove5475 Me too. I sometimes wonder if the younger generations don’t really listen to lyrics? Is it that a song has to hit in the first 5 seconds or they’re not interested? I mourn the loss of the influence of radio, never knowing what’s coming next, hearing something for the first time & thinking, “What the hell is that, I love it?”. Oh God, I’m such an old fogey 😄
This song to me will always be Paul Hester's song. After their band member Paul died, they performed this song at the Arias and there wasn't a dry eye in the house 😥
I was there that night singing my head off . An awewsome concert on the steps of The Sydney Opera House with the Sydney Harbour Bridge in the background and met great people .
Was there in 1996 and back again in 2017 and loved them just as much. They always play this song at the end ❤ These concerts coincided with CH being inducted into the ARIA Hall of Fame too (the ARIA's are Australia's Grammys)
Yes I saw them maybe 13 years ago and they are simply an iconic band .For some reason.i still see Neil.Finn as that quirky 17,18 year old in spilt ends era .
When one thinks of the journey of split enz coming last in a New Zealand tv talent competition and then eventually becoming an enormously successful band, worldwide. It truly does show how perseverance and tenacity, when mixed with self belief in your art...oh forgot what I was saying...listen to I see red by split enz...
My daughter to me to see them only a month ago in Sydney with Neil's two sons no in the line up, fabulous show bringing me back to rehearsals at my dad's shed when my mum would request we played better be home soon as it was her favourite. She is on her 80's now and still loves it.
This song is very dear to a lot of Aussies and Kiwis. One choral performance I vivldly remember was when this song was song at one of the Bali bombing memorials. And it breaks my heart every time I hear it.
saw them live in a small club in phoenix as they were getting ready to play Coachella for their first concert "back" - amazing is an understatement - I was about 15 feet from the stage - for almost 3 hours :)
It's because Aussie's love their music and life Trust me if your 💩 Aussie's will let you know They'll tear you down as quick as build you up If you become up yourself We have a thing tall poppy syndrome Trust me Aussie artists start at the bottom in pubs and clubs How they get a repore with their fans So when they make it they never forget who got them there the fans
The lead singer was in Split Enz who you already reacted to they both the bands are Kiwi but Aussies fell in love with the both bands and we made them big thats why we call them ours lol
split enz was never aussie - they were big before even arriving in aus - their album true colours was already at number 1 in nz they were already big in nz before going to aus - Australia always calls nz musicians and actors aussie after they go to aus
This was their final farewell concert. In front of the Opera house and was the best concert have seen, even better than my Beloved Eagles. We claim them as Aussies and they are beloved.
This wasn't a farewell concert. Neil even says it at the start of this song. 'Until next time, and there will be a next time'. Neil also correctly refers to the Crowdies as Australian.
If you want to take a look at this incredible composer, musician, vocalist, at work, check out "The Infinity Sessions: week Four" on RUclips: Neil Finn. This is the fourth of Neil Finn’s August Friday night live-streams at the legendary Roundhead Studios in Auckland New Zealand. Neil Finn recorded his new album ‘Out Of Silence’ on Friday August 25th and streamed the process to the world. Out of Silence was released digitally one week later on September 1, 2017. Tracks to watch out for are Terrorize Me (take 4) and Chameleon Days (take 2), the latter featuring sons Elroy Finn on base guitar and Liam Finn on drums. How many musicians have the confidence to live stream their work like this?
Neil Finn - one of the best songwriters of all time.
Yes, 100%
new zealands treasure
I seriously doubt if there are any bands anywhere in the world that are genuinely loved by people more than the House.
I hate this band with a passion. I liked Neil Finn when he was in Split Enz with his brother but the morose drivel that he put out in Crowded House makes me hit the off button whenever I hear it.
@@willforbes6373 Well you obviously live a very sad life. Sorry to break it to you.

my dear late partner's farewell song
RIP Paul Hester 🥁💔
Miss Hessie so much, his talent and smile was so awesome 🎶🎵💚
Hessie's charisma, humour and spirit can never be replaced.
@@RolandDeschain1 charisma for days!! Something about him was very special indeed.
@@deegomez2089 Paul Hester was a beautiful soul. His appearances on the Martin/Molloy radio show in the 90s were so incredibly funny.
so sad that Paul Hester couldn't be there, but probably was in spirit.
Was just thinking exactly that, so sad.
It's not Crowded House without Paul Hester.
Yeah depression is a terrible weight to bare .Felt sorry for his young family too
It was the best concert I have ever been at. I have tickets to see them again on the 11th of November and I can't wait.
Me too!

That’s such a awesome memory, awesome to know our kiwi/Aussie boys gave a good show to remember ✌️
Can’t overstate how brilliant they are & I don’t understand how there aren’t more reactions. Love that you love them, thank you
You are so so right.. followed them since Enz days.. NF up there with best ever songwriters

Neil sang it alone at that venue.
I won tickets to see this very line up play in a small London venue to 300 people. Got to easily be in my top 3 gigs ever. What a night

Proves people want wholesome, positive messages!
I was at that concert it was incredible- such an iconic band! You should check out Neil’s son Liam Finn.
You feel like you're in a living room with Neil at a show. Just makes you feel welcome and part of it.

So you saw them without Paul, sorry mate but you missed the best
"Means to me" is another awesome song from Crowded House!
My favourite, rarely gets a mention though.
Master class of a band that is loved ❤
this is always a hit at karaoke, the whole pub sings with you!
It’s almost impossible not to belt out the refrain at the end of the show. You’ve got to see these guys!
Princess Diana's Favourite Band in the world🥰R.I.P M'Lady
Glad this one came around. Pairs really well with the Don't Dream it's Over performance you checked out awhile back.
WOW! Chills!! What a wonderful song, what a wonderful artist! Thank you for reacting to this amazing performance!

Masters at work..
Love me some Crowded House! Check out "Into Temptation" it's a great song that is often overlooked.
Crowded House at The House, is basically Community Singing (with Fireworks).
First time i have seem them perform without their drummer and was sad to watch
Just humble bastards from down under who are as surprised as anyone by their success lol
What did she just snort? She’s in orbit around the planet. Aside from that, great song!

Guess where I'm going in just over 2 weeks? Crowded House supported by The Teskey Brothers. It just needs to stop raining...

This band is two thirds Australian at least.
Nope. Only Nick is Aussie. Neal is Kiwi. Matt & Mark are US.
Im writing down the names of every product in the commercials just to make sure I will never buy them.
can do no wrong
you should listen to Split Enz, the band Neil Finn was in before Crowded House. Split Enz is were so much better.
