flip was THE TEAM back in the day. Geoff, Tom, Arto, Rune, Pj, Ali, Bastien Mark. All the biggest hitters. The golden era to me. Those videos changed skateboarding.
True. But "Stéphane Larance"! and Jean Tongo before him. in any case the Paris area has a very big black population, and there were always black dudes skating. France is not segregated like the US and never has been.
Just watched Bastiens "lost part". Gave me the chills. The hairs on my arms are standing up. Took me back to when I was 12 or 13 years old watching sorry for the first time. One of the best..
It was! But the part he mentioned right in the first minutes "Lordz- they don't give a fuck about us" That Video is probably the best european Video til
@@xmisterblackhatx Baker 2G was fire. The plan for the day was usually on the school bus looking at skate mags, video after school and then skate until it's late.
I've always had mad respect for Bastien but this interview multiplied my respect for 10x. This was a very inspirational interview. What a stand-up dude.
So kickflip pretzels are cool but no complys suck? Just bc he didn't put them in his parts doesn't mean he didn't do them. His parts were mostly bangers and not alot of lines or having fun. He's from the generation of hammers
@@drewtatasciore7086 yeah but they're all no nonsense lines. Like a trick before a handrail not him just goofing off on the board. Outside of the kickflip pretzel it's all business. Bastien is one of the greatest of all time, and hearing him speak just reinforces that. He’s so down to earth and has such a good perspective on everything. This is one of the best episodes ever
meet that guy in south of france was slightly younger than me he was not even famous yet. i would have never thought he would have get such a big part in the flip video it was truly amazing to see that. definitly one of the best back then
So many parts of this made me smile. Love his honesty and the history. Thank you, Nine Club . Questions were on point. I saw him compete at one of those big Euro contests just after the Sorry video release and at that point in time, he was unstoppable. Early to mid 2000's, he was the best contest skater in the world. It's weird to be proud of someone you don't really know, but I am of this dude. Such a ruler. All the best for the future Bastien. Always hyped to see something from you.
Chris Wood my pleasure entirely bro, do you still get to hang with aussie crew? Jake, Chima, Shane Azar and those boys? That video made me wanna ditch it all and fly to australia haha
Starting my week of SOOOO good with this episode. Love bastien. Love his story. Love how he didn't disappear, wasn't on drugs. Just wanted to get home for a while. Such an amazing human! I need a nine club hoodie after this episode!
a couple of minutes into this podcast and I can say that you can sense when the invited people are really open or not. Bastien seems to be part of these guys who just have somewhat of an aura of openness around them. MUCH RESPECT for everyone making this podcast.
One of the best episodes so far. So doped that I started skating in the era when Sorry, DC, This is skateboarding, Yeah Right and etc. Came out. Dude, that Flip team was the sickest!
watched sorry religiously everyday as a kid. the way they portrayed skate culture to me back then is what i still hold on to today when i think about it. fuckin best times of my life
Legend. I remember seeing Sorry and I felt like giving up. Used to watch Bastien's part every day, getting super amped up from the music. Man, it was the coolest video part ever made to me, back then. Love you Bastien! Thank you so much for your hard work.
Inspired by this interview. Ima get my a** up off my seat now. But for real Bastien video part in the Flip videos make a huge impact on me. I am glad to see him grow up to be a respected and great individual.
So sick to have a Bastien ep, I've been waiting for this since I started watching the club! Awesome story of his career & great to hear it from him & not just rumors. Another great ep, you guys killed it as always. All love to the club!
love these podcasts. Being able to pause go back and watch the actual contest or video parts he talks and then come back to the podcast makes this very enjoyable. reliving my teen years.
I remembered when Sorry came out. It was one of , if not the biggest skate video at that time. Johnny Rotten announcing the skaters, classic. Everybody I knew watched that video religiously before skating, and Really Sorry. Bastiens part was right up there with every big pro during that time.
One of the Best episodes yet ! Bastien is just the kindest person and an amazing skateboarder ! So hyped to more of him in the future. Flip sorry, really set the mind of skateboarding for me
Damn. That was the best episode. Bastien was my favorite skater growing up, and I definitely had several pairs of his vans. After this I am so stoked for him! He is such a well spoken and inspirational guy. I loved hearing his process of dealing with negativity, focus and setting goals as well. Living legend for sure! I can’t wait to see more from him. 🙏
that was an awesome episode. I really respect his decision to leave Huntington for Europe. Seems Bastien was always motivated by new experiences and doing the shit that was best for him. admirable dude with a great story // always loved the flip videos. Hearing what he said about Geoff’s view of fear was really interesting too.
Best era of skating. 199-2006ish. Would love to see the other flip guys arto, Geoff, Ali, Tom penny. That video and team was HUGE back then. Best videos. Sorry, yeah right, this is skateboarding. The styles back then we're so much better. I'm glad I got to skate back then and am not one of these new kids that only know how skating is today. That's all they know
I still think Bastien is the most underrated skater. I remember it took me years to understand how gnarly his sorry part wsa, despite watching it probably over 100 times. He was so far ahead of the game
first, was fully hoping/expecting a fat albert intro. second, bastiens part in sorry really had an influence on me. he does a kick flip nose grind back 180 on a table i think.. just how fun and good he made it look, ill never forget it.
Wow, first Nine Club I watched all the way through. Being a little older now it's incredible to relate to these guys a little more as grown adults. Chris is such a Bastien fan boy it's great. Not that I wouldn't be also haha.
Definitely one of my top 5 Nine Clubs so far. Bastiens the shit. Gotta get Geoff on!! And Arto of course. Love you guys. Thank you so much for doing what you’re doing.
I remember when I turned Eurosport channel and they were showing the Dortmund contest, hitting record on VHS and ruining my brothers movie, Bastien was skating, being from east Europe we didnt have access to videos, so me and my friends watched that contest every day for years, Bastien is a legend and as I can remember he won that contest at 14 years old. And yes, where Im from its called a bastien flip not a pretzel.
Cool episode. Never really had a chance to hear his story but always admired his skating. What a packed life he had at such a young age. It has certainly made him into a well rounded guy in his later years.
Alien Workshop Photosynthesis, eS Menikmati, and Flip Sorry were my golden trilogy of that era of skating. Got to go the premiere of Sorry in Melbourne, Australia aswell. Love Bastien, such a cool insightful guy.
One of my favorite episodes I've seen so far, though not as much mention of the Switch flip switch Manny as I would have liked. Bastien seems like an awesome dude. I'm watching all of the shows in order and it's taking me forever to get caught up lol
