I totally agree with this report. If you are not a racing drive and don't feel inadequate because it's not an XJR and or if speed is not your priority the X 300 is the best car Jaguar has ever made. I have the 1996 straight 6 XJ6 with the comfort dampers and the classic Connolly leather. I passed up the sports models for the more classic Jaguar interior and ride.I don't care if it was made under ford ownership either. Many of my snobby Jaguar mates cars were made under BMC or British Leyland ownership so don't talk that crap with me. William Lyons would have been very proud of this car under the design team of the late Geoff Lawson who knew William Lyons and consulted with him before he died.

I bought a 94 XJR auto in Turqoise when it was about 5 years old. Can't remember the mileage but must have been around 70k. After a month and less than 1000 miles the GM400 transmission failed. The dealer asked how I felt about contributing to the cost of replacement (it was under warranty) - so I told them ! A year later on a cold, damp Sunday morning it swapped ends on a dual carriageway and wiped out both the front and back ends against the armco. It was on brand new P Zeros. To this day I don't know what caused it, but that was the end of that.

Agree about the maligned 40 but honestly, this car is trying to be the series 3 but missing the target . We all know the series 3 is the most beautiful car ever made and it was a mistake to discontinue it . Just looking at this whatever they call it but the dashboard is like your last hi fi before the previous one . Its a debacle ! and that handbrake lever digging in to the drivers thigh ! My own series 3 V12 is motoring perfection, silence unruffled and a pure ecstatic joy to be in . The traditional dashboard does not give the driver the screeming habdabs like the 40 did and details like the twin fuel tanks and the reflection in shop windows as the car passes makes me have to pinch myself to believe its really me in this beautiful car . You dont get that with the 40 or its successors

Beautiful automobile, but one small point of critic at 2:14 litte immobile rear window triangle disturbes somewhat the otherwise faultless appearance of the sleek car body. At 2:42 the Mercedes in comparison looks a bit too 'clumsy'. At 3:43 comes a big shock: Where has all the walnut wood of the dashboard has gone? Gracefulness ober styling: it's only a matter of mind over matter. At 5:59 I'd rather prefer the frame of the radiator grille to be chromed rather than lacquered in the same colour of the coach-work.
