I’ve owned my 05 Superv8 for 15 years . 72 K and very few issues to deal with. Just drove from Nova Scotia to Arizona in 4 days 3450 miles, 27.8 mpg @75 to 100 mph , avg 74 mph , after 12 hrs of driving you get out and not feel tired at all. A fantastic driving experience. Black / Champagne, gets all kinds of attention wherever I go . One classic automobile. I will never sell it.
I have a 2007 XJR Portfolio with the Aluminium finish and cast Aluminium side vents. Its the best car I have ever owned and i feel like royalty just sitting in it.
Numistacker I have the same car! It is comfortable, classy, and fast! I just purchased it a few months ago from the estate of a late relative, and it had only 17,000 miles on it! After I put on new tires, brake pads, and a battery, I’m looking forward to owning it for many years.
Absolutely beautiful cars I had a 2006, Very reliable except for the air suspension but even Lexus has issues with their air suspension, unfortunately it was totaled but I lust after them and probably will end up getting another one someday most likely a refresh 2008 As I love the shark fins…
My dad owns a 2004 X350 , and well I gotta say I love it. Not only was it quiet, but it was fast, and has alot of features than every car I've been sitting in, to the point my dad made a comment: After having this car, it feels way different to go back to a lower class car.
I am a Brit exiled in Florida and a Jaguar lover having owned a Series 1 XJ6 LWB and an E-type and now my 2004 X350 XJ8. I do all of my own work on my cars and though my XJ8 has only 74K miles with a full service history and only one previous owner, she still needed some care and attention. All of the suspension bushings and both rear tie bars had to be replaced as well as the two front air struts. Luckily these parts are relatively inexpensive - we even have an airstrut rebuilder here in Florida. The biggest risk is the transmission. The ZF 6 speed was described as being maintenance free. With no dipstick to even check the fluid. Not true. Fluid and several seals under the valve body should be replaced every 70K miles or so along with the plastic sump with integral filter and genuine ZF transmission fluid (not cheap). Other issues to look for are leaking thermostat housing (Cheap replacement) and water pump. Here in Florida sagging headliner are common though mine is perfect. I love my Jag and prefer to drive it to my 2016 Audi A8. Buy these while they are cheap and cherish them - the last of the great Jags.
Really? I agree the shape before was drop dead beautiful but the latest one 11 on is pretty stunning tbf and modern with it. Inside they got the balance spot on. This was aluminium but not attractive. Dated badly against A8 of the era.
The comments on the shape is obviously a matter of opinion. The x350 is more “muscular” and more refined than its predecessor, which was a little “flat” in the rear, in comparison... although I still liked the shape. They just improved it with the 350, with its “throw back to the 60s” overall shape and flow. And I LOVE driving mine... Thanks for the great video..
I have been lucky enough to own a number of X350 XJ's, and am on the lookout for a 4.2. These cars are truly beautiful, with plenty enough performance, and they positively ooze class in a way that few other cars (maybe save for the Bentley Arnage) do....
The X350 was my last car, a TDVI Sovereign. My first venture into the Jaguar marque. Absolutely loved it, super comfortable and on the long run to work, very economical too! Have a Land Rover now so kind of, still with the brand
I loved my `88 XJ40, I love my `95 XJ12 and my 2005 XJ8 L. All have been very reliable. Except for external fuel pump vapor lock in the XJ40, it was one of the most reliable cars I ever owned.
I've owned three generations, previously the x308 which was british racing green. My x350 outshines it in every respect and it gets more comments than the x308 did. The main problem for me (as other x350 owners) has been air suspension. I've replaced three air shocks thus far, and I had an accelerator pedal problem. Also the dash info screen started 'scrolling' supposedly due to a sync wire. It's not an easy upgrade there, since your climate controls on touch screen models are through that infotainment screen. Other than that, I love driving it and I always look back at the car in admiration. I think i'll keep this one and even throw in a bigger american v8 when the engine finally goes ; but i've seen these go up to 300k without a hiccup.
@@monirmualla I'm thinking about converting to coil overs ... there is a kit out in the wild for a bit over 1k, but replaces everything with standard shocks and springs
Good review. Mine was a non-sport version with the chrome grill which I think looks better, lovely car and one of the most reliable Jags ever. It was only a 3 litre engine but still had plenty of power and could get 30+ mpg. Although I have a MK2 now and have had numerous Jaguars, the X350 is the one I most regret selling.
It's interesting reading the comments about these later versions of the XJ concept. I won't criticize any of these cars, as I have driven none. We are still very happy with our Series 2 XJ6, which handles like a dream, has a personality of it's own, as all older Jags should have, and is in fact the last of the REAL Jags, because Sir William Lyons designed it. From the Series 3 onwards, it was a different era.
I happily owned two, a 3ltr V6 petrol SE and a 2.7ltr diesel Sovreign, loved both and never had any issues with either. They made you enjoy driving. Ford introduced so much to Jaguar. I now have a new shape XJ Portfolio and would recommend it, powerful, luxurious and economical (3ltr diesel).
I've just bought a 2008 X358 lwb Sovereign diesel and I just love it. It does everything I was hoping and more, plus she gives me 45 mpg on a long run and 38 daily bobbing about. All for £4000 !!!! Mine has adaptive suspension and steers really precisely.
I've just bought a 2007 v6 petrol with 32000 miles on it, gotta wait 2 weeks to pick it up though so your video is keeping me going till then thanks guys
The best one to have in my view. I've had my 2003 model for six years with little trouble. 30mpg on a long run. The V8 is quieter, but thirstier. The diesel has to have cambelt changes and egr valves. The 3 litre engine is readily available second hand if needed. Some parts are very expensive from Jaguar, but brakes and suspension bits are available pattern. Biggest expense so far- rear wishbones.
Replace Defective struts for health of air suspension... wish I had watched this video before fixing mine. I started fixing my struts AFTER replacing air suspension. Great video, thumbs up!!!!
Having had Jags through the ages I must say this 2006 XJ8 I have is the best car of them all for the classic style Jags. The XJR would be the one I will get if I can find the right one for the right money. I got my XJ8 with such low miles for a 15 year old car it was like I stole it. It is still feels higher class than any newer cars such as the 2020-21LEXUS that my neighbors drive. It is far more class for the money than any car of it age that stands out and still turns heads.
I have a 2009 XJ8, the "X358" with the slightly different front and rear bumpers, and the ugly fake scoops on the fenders. Despite the questionable styling choices on the facelifted version, I actually love this car. It's probably the best driving car I've ever had. A 4.2L DOHC fuel injected V8 with variable valve timing and high compression, 6 speed transmission, RWD, fully independent rear suspension, 4 wheel disk brakes, dual exhaust, and a lightweight aluminum body...it's got all the go fast hot rod parts you could want, in the body of a classic British luxury car. I call it a gentleman's muscle car. Fun, fast, comfortable, stylish, roomy...this car does it all.
What he said @ 6:18 in. I’ve owned the 2004 XJ VDP since 2006 and driven a 1995 XJ6 VDP and noticed the XJ6 had a better ride despite being older. It’s also lower than my car which I like and looks better.

Think much of your criticism is a matter of personal taste. You say the XJ40 is your favourite, yet It is my least. To me, the best looking XJ of the lot was the Series 3 and the X350 is the closest to it that came after. Having got to my mid 40s, I don't want to be on my back welding for another MOT, so the X350 being aluminium, is a really practical choice. Picked up a 3 litre V6 in the summer, with FSH @108k miles, for just £1450. @@skelejp9982 The front of the X300 and X308 were certainly a great improvement over the XJ40, replacing the rear doors that I personally dislike. One area that the pre-X350 cars certainly excel in is ride comfort. The airbags on the X350 ruin the traditional magic carpet ride. My car is a keeper and I would like at some stage a coil spring conversion. I wonder if anyone here has tried that and if it did improve ride quality?
They are very finicky and definitely have little flaws, but the luxury is so worth it. They have a mind of their own, limp mode, air ride doesn’t work below 20 degrees. Cheap plastic cooling parts, small leak in the head gasket. Throttle body has to be replace because of a tiny low sensor goes out.
An OK review but no mention of the electrolytic corrosion that can occur between the aluminium body components and the rivets holding them together. Also, no mention of the Ford-sourced 3 litre V6 engine, that gave perfectly acceptable performance for this type of car, yet was very reliable and cheap to fix on the rare occasions it went wrong.
The V6 diesel was a joint Jaguar/Ford/PSA development. Ford closed the Jaguar engine plant in Radford Coventry where the Jaguar designed V8 was due to be built, and put it into Bridgend in the Jaguar cell, while the V6 was buuilt in Dagenham.
I really want to buy this new car, But given my 07 plate Astra 1.9 CDTI convertible and a Window issue.. I feel I may lose faith with newer cars.. I had a couple of these over 7 years certain things like the air suspension compresser I bought of e Bay fitted myself cheap 80 pounds lasted for a few years jaguar wanted 750 pounds lol. and other things I fixed like dodgy earth under the engine and fuse boxes and air struts. Don't buy the tdvi I had cambelt both turbos both egrs air flow mass sensors and loads of other things replaced.
@@Dave-in-France well hopefully your a lucky one mine was a nightmare I spent as much fixing it all the time as I paid for it practically rebuilt it during 6 years. If I where you I'd get rid well its still OK I got bored of 1500 pound bills every few months!
I had the 3.5 litre V8 for4 years. Best car I ever drove, worst car I ever owned. When it reached four years and 40K miles it went into self destruct mode. Steering rack collapsed, compressor for air suspension croaked, air con compressor died, rear suspension linkages all needed renewing (thankfully at this stage independents had figured a way to press in new bushes instead of replacing complete arm), corrosion where badly galvanised rivets attaching aluminium panels to steel frames allowed galvanic corrosion between the steel and aluminium. There is more but if I continue I'll have to book another session with my psychiatrist. On the bright side it was a fantastic drive but as I was using it for business I could no longer justify the constant outflow of cash and horrendous depreciation.
I have an X350 of the XJ8 and its glove box just glides open instead of dropping open. And I'm looking into getting a coil springs conversion kit for it. And if I've heard correctly, the handling would be at least just as good with coil springs. I'm spending some good money o nit once in a while just to keep it on top. But in The States, where I'm at, there's plenty of high speed freeways called Interstates (sort of equivalent to motorways of Europe) where I look forward to taking it out on and getting some high speed highways miles on it.
I just replaced my 2006 X350 air suspension with coil over shocks. Do not spend one dime on fixing the air system. It's a money pit. The coil overs are awesome ...... and no more suspension flashing dash lights, ever. There is a module with the kit that you install behind the back seat that by-passes all the old sensor circuits. I used the Arnott kit and the handling has actually improved (less sway) with minimal ride quality loss.
It's not as elegant as the previous version from the front as some moron has painted the mask black. Actually this model looks much nicer with the mesh grille. This particular grille (even in chrome) wasn't that nice. Otherwise nice video, these last old XJ's will eventually be sought after classics.
Yeah they are small problems, the air shocks on any car can become major issues but as soon as the car start sagging you have to replace the blown shock or else the air compressor will run constantly and blow the compressor and become much more expensive and the whole car will start sagging I learned that the hard way😂
I just bought a 06 Super V8 Portfolio with 89k miles. So far: new battery. It's in the shop now. Told the indy mechanic to take care of what it needs now. Estimate $2800. Waiting on parts. Should have it back this week. Love the car. One of 145 imported in 06.
it's a quite decent car, really sporty. i've had a xj v8 sovereign...a limo... it is a real jag, but this sporty v8, (i have an 4.2 sc v8 from 2003) is geourgious.. is it a jag?? yes sir and oh, a little thing... Jaguar should have taken the Valet button much earlier away out of their papers...it only gives much problems when you, by accidence, push on this button...
I dare say its the best of the old style XJs but it's looks are all wrong with weird proportions and odd shapes from some angles, the XJ40 based cars look much better.
You are reviewing the wrong car here . This is nothing but an attempt to recreate what once was . The car you should be reviewing is the series 3 V12 in Jag or Daimler form . That was the pinnacle of Jaguars greatness . everything that followed was Jaguar trying to make their cars look like the series 3 but failing at every juncture . What I am going to tell you all now is true. 3 weeks ago, whilst visiting a stately home in Mid England , despite many other jags in the public car park, the national trust employees saw me coming in my series 3 and waved us round to the owners car park in front of the house thinking we were royalty in our series 3 . Nuff said !!
Ugly car, they ruined Jags after this, Looks like an bloated x-type, anyone who thinks they look good needs an eye test. X308 was the last great Jag shape, newer ones use the same engine just at a greater displacement.

And I have BD52NFA. Great car!
My glovebox has a mechanism and it doesn't drop like that. There is a damper, apparently on this instance it broke. Mine is 2003 x350 3.0 L SE.
Matter of taste !!!!! Love it even the front of the car.
Styling is subjective, of course. Don't forget, the Mk2 Jaguar was considered ugly at one stage...
I have a 90 majestic Vanden Plas!!! 73k miles
Not a patch on looks on x300 x308
Still looking nice.
You are welcome.
I love this car!
So do we! Great value, too
@@ClassicsWorldUK yeah definitely an underrated car, and let's keep it that way ;)
Air suspension issues?
1968 to 2009 are the best jag XJs, but the X358 best ones but the best for me are X300 X308 X350 and X358
Ford closed the Jaguar engine plant in Radford Coventry where the Jaguar designed V8 was due to be built, and put it into Bridgend in the Jaguar cell, while the V6 was buuilt in Dagenham.
love the car. the heather core needs to flushed out ! else you are going to need a replacement ! corrosion can be an issue to!
Great vid3o, sold my 350 😿although I do still have my 358!
I really want to buy this new car, But given my 07 plate Astra 1.9 CDTI convertible and a Window issue..
I feel I may lose faith with newer cars..
I owned a few Jaguar cars 1991 and 2000 plate XJ8 3.2.
I own Audi A6 estate 2.7TDI Not a bad car and I have my old BERTONE Astra 2.2 convertible and my Mercedes CLK 320 fab car..
Anything you can say to sway me off these cars please..?
Which year car you think might suit me.. 2.7TDVI I am not to keen I don't mind 3.0/3.6/4.2..? and year plate between 2004 -2008..?
MK2 Thats a REAL Jaguar!
Ian Callum's MKII Restomod is a Dream Jaguar !
I've got a tdv6 and mine runs perfectly, great on fuel, loads of low down grunt, drives very well indeed.
@@Dave-in-France well hopefully your a lucky one mine was a nightmare I spent as much fixing it all the time as I paid for it practically rebuilt it during 6 years. If I where you I'd get rid well its still OK I got bored of 1500 pound bills every few months!
Michael Ainslie mine has been great for two years and it has 141k miles. Only fixes have been a couple leaks. Did the repairs myself.
My gearbox (ZF) failed and I hear many others have too.
Mine has also failed. I replaced it and 2 weeks later that also failed. I don't know what to do now
I had the 3.5 litre V8 for4 years.
@@utuber1694 Thanks. I won't sink a dime into the air suspension on mine. I may just order a coil springs kit as soon as I can.
@@utuber1694 will installing the coil suspensions ignite the amber light on the dashboard?
To be truthful the series 3 XJ production ran a bit longer than 1986 the last car being a 1992 K in black
The series 3s after '86 were V12 s. Had one, a Daimler 66.
do you also give fashion advice ?
Fantastic video! I would like to see you guys cover the Ford-era S-Type too if possible.
A colleague has one - stay tuned!
Come please S type was so awful looking not a proper Jag but a tarted up Ford!
I've had 2 S-type V8 4.2's and they were great cars. Cheap as chips to nowadays.
It's not as elegant as the previous version from the front as some moron has painted the mask black. Actually this model looks much nicer with the mesh grille. This particular grille (even in chrome) wasn't that nice. Otherwise nice video, these last old XJ's will eventually be sought after classics.
We'd agree! Ours is a particularly early car, so will be preserved
you are so right
Very good review But would you say that the last true Jaguar XJ was infect the Jaguar XJ308 saloon.
It's a very much subjective topic, Paul - we're divided in our office!
Lovely jag
Waiting for 'it's a nice place to be'. Take a drink.
We don't call it a trunk over here.
I agree with a lot of what you say. Lovely car.. but the 308 I still love more.. Haha... but they rot like hell!
jedw
Maybe but if you obtained one in A1 First Class Condition, and wax oiled throughout, would you have a wonderful motor car.
Re-badged as the Daimler Super Eight.
A gentleman's XJR - we love it!
@@ClassicsWorldUK
Last car to carry the Daimler brand too !
I have 2006 jaguar xj vdp with 40000 miles for sale in Florida
I own 350. Major problem airmatic , heater hose, . Plastic triming will break. But great comfort
Yeah they are small problems, the air shocks on any car can become major issues but as soon as the car start sagging you have to replace the blown shock or else the air compressor will run constantly and blow the compressor and become much more expensive and the whole car will start sagging I learned that the hard way😂
Yes 100%
Is the maintence on XJ (X350s) crazy stupid?.
I just bought a 06 Super V8 Portfolio with 89k miles. So far: new battery. It's in the shop now. Told the indy mechanic to take care of what it needs now. Estimate $2800. Waiting on parts. Should have it back this week. Love the car. One of 145 imported in 06.
Beautiful.
Crucial question whats better Xj6 x300 or x350
X350 4.2😊
Opinions are divided in our office...
What's YOUR favourite?
An x350 diesel - quiet, economical, powerful with loads of torque, what's not to like ?
I’ve had both. X350 feels massively more modern, X300 is better looking.
X350 it's more pratical for every day use.
X308 has a more fluid design. Love it
Did your teenage son mind that you borrowed his footwear? M.
Hahaha
Looks so silly doesn't it!
Isn't there a 358 after this one???? Slightly different front and maybe the 358 was the last of the era??
You're totally right.
i am buying one at age 17 to drive every day
What country do you live in?
I’m 17 and I plan ti buy it next year too
get yourself a 5k cruise module
A proper jaguar saloon car shape don't like the hatchback look of the newer models . Stopped buying them
Last real jaaaaag 😎
Last Jag before they remembered it was 30 years over due re-styling
Vans shoes and Jaguar's shouldn't mix. Looks much better than a 308
it's a quite decent car, really sporty. i've had a xj v8 sovereign...a limo... it is a real jag, but this sporty v8, (i have an 4.2 sc v8 from 2003) is geourgious.. is it a jag?? yes sir and oh, a little thing... Jaguar should have taken the Valet button much earlier away out of their papers...it only gives much problems when you, by accidence, push on this button...
The X350 is definitely a real Jaguar (as long as it's petrol powered, of course). But it will never be a classic.
Total rubbish. My SWB XJR Portfolio is going up in value and quite sought after
I dare say its the best of the old style XJs but it's looks are all wrong with weird proportions and odd shapes from some angles, the XJ40 based cars look much better.
It's not like the generation before is not cheap. (And that one was actually crap.)
It has become a aluminium foil car ...previously it is a metal armour car...
If the Series 3 V12 is more your thing, Fiona, have a look at our other videos :D
Not cheap Ford quality
Love the car but the reviewer isn’t a good for communicator not a clear reviewer 🔊
Hate the interfering music.
Xj is only beautiful up to 2003. After that that became “chubby” hahaha
sorry but get a better camera, the video looks like it’s 10 years old
Ugly sport model. Jaguar by definition means loads of chrome. Without it looks cheap.
Isn't it a Ford?😂😂😂
And what is the commonality with a Ford, please tell us!
@@Hattonbank I ask the questions.
If it is a Ford then a Bentley is a Skoda and a Ferrari is a Fiat.
@@Hattonbank Ha, YOU said that... I couldn't possible comment.😂
@@Hattonbank 0 knowledge they talk just so they can hear themselves
Ugly car, they ruined Jags after this, Looks like an bloated x-type, anyone who thinks they look good needs an eye test. X308 was the last great Jag shape, newer ones use the same engine just at a greater displacement.
There's no such thing as a real Jag. They just got lazy with the XJ and didn't re-style it for decades.
Jaguar is danger of becoming extinct. Sorry.
The clock looks cheap.
Just buy a mondeo which is all it is underneath
No you are thinking of the x-type. This car has nothing whatsoever in common with the Mondeo.
Are you mad? 🤪
It has got nothing in common with Mondeo.
Yeah, and the Bentley Continental is a Skoda underneath as well!

Proper Jag. Makes your squeaks totally ineffective my friend. Have the last classic XJ in my yard and JLR has now betrayed the UK and world by destroying the British Car in favour of stupid EV and SUV crap. It's a Goodnight from me.
The customer killed Jaguar by choosing F Pace E Pace, I Pace in huge numbers compared to XJ, XF and XE.
Unfortunately its a trend throughout the industry
