      could use an arduino too for some of the buttons, cram components from a small, cheap usb interface into it (behringer UM2 maybe?) and could salvage as many buttons as you can and of course the pads from an old MPD. hardest part would probably be writing the software to interpret all the arduino controls to in-software commands and creating the enclosure

    Nice one Michael - learning something new everytime on your channel, for instance had no idea the standalone MPCs used a linux-based firmware! BTW in case people are looking for a small cheap USB class compliant audio interface, I've been quite happy with the Behringer UC-202, less than half the price of the Presonus and about half the size when going on the back of your macbook

    I took the MPC Live 2 to the park, first off its impossible to menu dive with the screen when the sun is shining, in the shade under a tree i could kind of see it with some pollen stuck to the screen, its very heavy like 4 laptops on your lap, tried to be out of visibility for people addicted to drugs to rob me, made a beat with the speaker on then wrapped up the mpc with a towel and put it in my backpack, very heavy, and with all the internal components worried about it breaking. Haven't done it since. Pad trigger issue as well.

    • @bleepsbloops
      @bleepsbloops 2 года назад +1

      It’s not cheap, but the RK-006 is probably the best midi interface for velcro’ing to the back of a laptop. It’s extremely tiny and has 10 midi outs and 2 midi ins + configurable analog clock. I’m lucky to already own one since I needed more midi outs for the MPC I used to own. For an audio/midi interface in one device, one could consider IK Multimedia iRig series, most of which also have midi i/o in their small form factor.

    • @FuZZbaLLbee
      @FuZZbaLLbee 2 года назад +1

      Just get one of those USB to MIDI cables. Unless you really have an issue with latency. In that case you will need something like a ERM multiclock. But if it needs to be portable, you won’t have external synths anyway

      I got a Korg padKontrol used for $60, but I notice people around here asking $80 now. I chose that because it's plug and play with my Kronos... but you can use it with a general purpose computer too (Kronos runs Linux on Intel Atom board). Very nice pads, IMO. People seem to sell the less "desirable" MPC products, or APC products, that still have the "desirable" pads, for pretty cheap. Or you could buy a really really cheap generic pad controller, but I couldn't vouch for the quality.

  • @jadanoliver6237

    There is different requirements for sampling drum machines than the regular laptops or desktops, however straight up a laptop or even a iPad would be a better purchase.
    I like the mpc. It is a dedicated device.
    But considering the amount of money needed to do a hardware setup the computer becomes more enticing.

    If I want to share audio with people I can just connect to speakers via 3.5/aux or bluetooth! I just saved $2000 on a MPC Live 2!

    Garage Band or Cubasis on an iPad are great. I want to get a Yamaha MX49 v2. It has great Motif sounds, a built-in audio/MIDI interface, and can connect to an iPad with a single USB cable for bidirectional audio/MIDI. You can just pretend the iPad is the excellent display for the MX49.

    Hey Michael, I've shared these videos and they have been true encouragement and a delight.
    I have still preferred my MPC for quick sample chopping and jamming - I'm not too skilled navigating daws on the computer so was wondering if you had advice.
    I like to load up a sample song, chop it up by ear, then just play with those chips - usually one at a time.
    Hilariously, I have found the "start point and end point" q link knobs to be my best friend to quickly cut a sample RIGHT where I want it.
    Is there a way to comfortably micro adjust samples on the computer where you can get feedback and make slight tunings. I feel like a knob is the only way or a midi controller.
    Interested to see you doing an MPC workflow jam on your laptop it you'd ever like to.
    Thanks a ton, you're doing great work. Every drop is highly anticipated and we appreciate you. Hope you're having fun and thanks for the music and advice.

      Appreciated, if you're in a DAW you can try a free plugin called Sitala, which can tune and chop your samples individually. I'm planning to share my mindsets when using a daw in the future, stay tuned~

      A device made for a single purpose (MPC Live) will always be better than a device made for many purposes (a laptop), for that purpose. Devices like the MPC Live are designed to be played and learned like an instrument is, a laptop is not. That's probably why you prefer using the MPC, and that's great. :)
