I discovered this series just now, but I think the last episode (or a future last episode if this isn't yet the end) of this series would've been a good moment to reflect some sentimental shit about how to process past, coexist with memories and most important appreciate the present.
To be fair, I started playing back in the late part of Season 2, just when Elise came out. Back then, all champions were in their original state (except for the visual upgrades to a few champs), and I really have to say that I miss all of the original kits. Well, maybe not champs like Sion and Yorick, but they were really the minority that got better from the VGU's. Here's one that will strike deep into an OG player's heart: OLD NASUS VOICE!
Nothing replaces that light, no-concequences feeling that old Akali ult had You could use a charge to farm a cannon if you wanted and it didn't matter that much You didnt have to wait to have the ult ready to be at max potential either, you were most probably always ready to fight, since if you could get a kill/assist you would regain charges anyway

I started in S6. What blows my mind the most is how old taric and kindred were in the same game. I think there's more polygons in kindred's bow than Taric's whole kit
I actually mained old Poppy and she was a crazy powerful character late game, with a surprisingly good lvl 1 against some matchups. I never touched her again after she was reworked.
man i still have nightmares of old poppy 1v5ing by putting her ult on a support and going ham. her scaling was insane back then. didnt happen often but when it did it was the worst thing in the game
These are the two champions I was most upset about with the reworks. I loved both of them. I played hundreds of games with old Akali, but since the rework, I’ve only played her maybe 20 times. I miss her old ult. :(
i have to say old akali felt much more vivid, old akali gameplay was much more fluid and let you feel like you're ready all the time esp with the ult always being ready, i don't wanna focus on saying old akali gameplay was faster, it was tho, but yeah, it just felt more rounded, calling it more fluid describes it pretty well the poppy one.. oh man you just unlocked some kinda key memory in me, all i remembered about old poppy was that i hated her for being so ugly, but actually seeing the old gameplay and old abilites i remember that i had some fun with that champ here and there too, that kinda moment where you knew you can do crazy busted stuff with a champ, so you went for it to completely destroy the enemy team like once every 20-30 games ..like the ''not usually your pick'' but ''sometimes just having fun with this busted abomination pick''
Akali to this day is still my most played champ and I have not touched her since the rework. Played her a bit when she could dodge towers but after they removed it I stopped.
I played Poppy with Ghost and Surge and she was so underestimated by everyone. Played her in toplane. I could even beat Darius, which was hard to do for most toplaners at the time, with patience. Insane 1v5 late game. She was listed as an assassin, she was the cheapest at 450ip, and this is why I picked her back then despite not looking the part on appearance. I played much less LoL once she was transformed into a tank, because it wasn't her identity imo. Still disappointed to this day.
Only tried poppy once or twice before her rework and didnt like the gameplay so for sure her reworked version, akali however i prefer 100% the old one i loved everything about it and rushing old gunblade with her was so satisfying :D
Old Akali is very strong, her combo with Q then pop by E with hextech does so much dmg in early game for snowball. You can't do anything if she gets ahead. I used to main her back then but when they removed her E interaction with Q I stop playing her.
Old Poppy by a mile. Most poppy players including me we used to build her full crit, go in like a madman and use ult on the support. Aaaand thats about it. Everyone is dead, you just won and made the enemy team extra salty. Good times
Yeah funny gameplay. I can imagine low elo players raging whenever they play against it. But nowdays we have sylas, so he would be on top of the food chain if he was on the opposite team :)
Man I miss the old mark assassins Akali and Katarina. I like their reworks too but idk I just LOVED marks. I know LeBlanc has her sigil but idk it hit different than the Akali/Katarina marks
Older versions of both champs are awesome. Out of both i think old poppy would preform better. Her old ult was insane and her tankness was on another lvl. With todays items poppy would be a raid boss.

I remember you had to build a speciffic set of runes to make old akali's passive work. Can we have old jax? the one had to have dodge to make his E work
i use to main old Akali and old Poppy so i prefer both of them idk if it is nostalgia or just that i had So much fun when i was new to the game playing Poppy and Akali on the 3 vs 3 map nowadays i play them here and there especially akali but i really feel i miss the old versions of those 2 fellas
Chronoshift getting C&D'd is the worst crime Riot has committed. There needs to be a playlist for each season. I miss the second iteration of masteries. On Akali, I think Riot was able to get rid of the most frustrating part of her - the healing. Gunblade was one of the dumbest items in the game, especially when Deathfire Grasp was ALSO in the game on Akali and Katarina.
You forgot to mention old Akali passive required the 10/10 AD/AP split, which meant you had to have a dedicated rune page for her if you were going to play her seriously. Which was an issue to new accounts when you needed to buy non-HP quints or having to sac yellow/blues for AP. Old Akali hands down. Miss me with that Edgelord K-Pop wannabe energy she spits out now. More "expression" is nice and all, but I remember the balance hell both her and Irelia went through. I didn't need the character to become more complex through mechanical execution, additionally, she became just "another" AP assassin. Her being a hybrid character was unique and part of her identity. Now she has left over AD ratios to say MEMBER THE TIME SHE WAS HYBRID, and if you're old, you can go I MEMBER! Now if we're talking the art, then obviously new Akali will win that contest, too bad she's still an edgelord.
I deeply miss the old akali. I know she wasn't technically better but she was so fun to play. And I miss when she wasn't some cringe teenager and was a stoic battle ninja
I played the two versions is Akali, I was a casual player so never read the patch notes so it was a surprise when my Akali start to self healing when I trade in line, it was better when i learned I can jump the small walls on the jungle. This second version is my favorite btw. Poppy rework is great, I can play on top, jungle or support, I can chose between a full tank, an offtank build, an assassin build, it's great.
As far as which Akali version I prefer, I miss the older one. It was easier to play. Dashing around was braindead and satisfying. I haven't mastered the new Akali. She looks fun and is so strong in the hands of a good player. But just not for me.
