On February 28th, Philippe Jaroussky sings a Vivaldi aria, with that angelic & amzing voice. Later on that evening, he is awarded 2007 best French lyrical artist.
This aria breaks my heart... especially the way Jaroussky sings it. Once in a thousand years a voice of this frequency and beauty comes along. He is a miracle.
I fail to understand why such beautiful singers such as Jaroussky or Radu Marian aren't more popular in the classical music world. We give due credit to Sarah Brightman, Jackie Evancho, and Charlotte Church, and Pavarotti had his time...so why not these amazing male sopranos? =/
It is from Vivaldi's opera Giustino. The name of the area is 'Vedro con mio diletto'. This is one of the most beautiful things I have heard and seen ever.
This guy sounds like what the castrati sounded like. What an amazing voice...pure and crystaline yet more powerful than many female voices. This kind of voice is extremely rare in modern times. thanks for the post!
if i were a king i'd put up a golden pedestal in my royal garden and have him sing to me (exclusively) every morning. it just seems like these rare people are from a magical realm.
A beautiful performance. The ensemble was very good, and Philippe Jaroussky was superb. Over all, a splendid rendition of a true classic. Such a magnificent performance is rare.
Because a male voice and a female voice isn't the same and doesn't sound alike. Plus, I think he wants to sing like that because it's just absolutly beautiful.
is there any gift so lovely as the human voice? no instrument can duplicate it, only enhance it. thank you for sharing this special soul. i knew him not and am grateful to have this opportunity.
WOW! What a voice and musicianship! This guy is very good! I like his voice too much, and I have listened to a little great amount of counter-tenors, because my boyfriend likes a lot. But this one is one of the best I heard, along with Scholl, Deller. Beautiful voice and face too! He's cute! Go on, keep on singing, man!
Wow, wow, wow! That is all I can say. He is a rising star in the Baroque world. A voice that has such agility and such warmth. Listening to it haunts my very soul. I fear I may be in love.
Thank you very very very much, Muezzab ! If you've got others videos of Philippe Jaroussky, could you sent them to me, please ? I'm a real addict !!!!!
The orchestra deserves some considerable praise too for its vibrant performance. Philippe Jaroussky stands very tall on the tall shoulders of Alfred Deller.
Wow! How cute is this guy! And he sings so beautifully. H.C. Robbins Landon in his 1993 (!) book on Vivaldi expressed skepticism that his operas could gain much currency. But Jarousssky as a sort of phenomenom is certainly changing that. Though this is hardly a good time for classical music generally, there a some bright pockets. Fortunately in life there are always some bright pockets.
Philippe, you have a marvelous gift, I am sure you know that. (-: Take care of it - not only of your fascinating voice, but your spirit as well. Great artists remain independent and modest... I wish you health, inspiration and harmony.
I can stop watching this video. Is the music and the singing all his vibratos resound in my heart. Although I enjoy other performances is nothing like this one. He have the ability to transport you with his singing. I love it. Bravo!
Reminds me of one argument my husband and I had one winter afternoon. It was a very pink sunset. The snow looked absolutely pink and shadows were of vibrant cobalt color. When I mentioned it, my husband said that it cannot be true because the snow is white and shadow is grey by definition. We still laugh about it.
beautiful voice, it seems that I hear an angel. beautiful gift that God has given this virtuous and wonderful man. beautiful countertenor voice, a whole gem
@serenaluce In the Baroque Era it was socially acceptable for a man to have his testicles removed to become a Castratti. Now, that barbaric practiced is all but eliminated & countertenors have found a new way of producing this type of sound. Is it 100% historically accurate? Of course not. However, what PJ and other countertenors use is called a Reinforced Falsetto. It is a Legitimate form of sound production. Just because You don't like the sound of his voice doesn't make it "Pop".
Incredible voice. I sometimes wish I could go back in time and hear and experience the performance of a true castrato. Beautiful performance this was. A++++
It is a different sound, & voices like this are meant to sing different roles than women. There are many roles composed for men, playing men, that require a sound & range like this. Do you really want to see all those roles played by women? There are already plenty of roles written for women playing men, but I don't want to see them take over all the roles written for voices like Philippe J.'s.
What is the point of comments regarding his sexual orientation or that his singing should be left to a woman? If women are auto mechanics is it wrong or are they a lesbian? It seems the world embraces women changing their roles as female but males are expected to maintain the traditional role of what a male should be. It would be ashamed if Philippe kept his wonderful talent and gift from the world because of narrow minded people. Gay or straight, who cares? Does it make him any less talented?
Don't forget that this exceptional performance is also a tribute to the Ensemble matheus, and Jean Cristophe Spinozi. They have worked so tightly together that they bring out the best of both of tham in this performance
@serenaluce It is music not a product or a diamond ... there is no false in art ...there is good and bad art ...this is a good one (in my opinion...as it is a a matter of opinion) , because it made me cry.
@serenaluce I have to admit that I can't understand how a person can judge and say what is the true and the fake art . We are talking about ART, here. So , is he fake because we see him on TV ? If he wasn't making much money , would he be a better artist ?
oh look at how fun you are, spouting generalizations =) except that some of us would kill to see Jaroussky live, so I guess we Americans don't know what the internet is either. =(
It's on his top notes that one can hear it's a man singing. I wish I could have heard the castrati of old as that must have been an INCREDIBLE sound! A soprano voice with the power and strength of a man's body underpinning the voice. I don't think counter tenors come even CLOSE to what a castrato would have sounded like.
This aria breaks my heart... especially the way Jaroussky sings it. Once in a thousand years a voice of this frequency and beauty comes along. He is a miracle.

Guys, Jaroussky is the ultimate sopranist singer, such as hasn't been seen in centuries...

As a baritone, I want to hate it...but it is so beautiful. That is a gorgeous voice.
Bravo Philippe, Bravo Vivaldi !
How can someone dislike this video? Oh, the humanity.

if i were a king i'd put up a golden pedestal in my royal garden and have him sing to me (exclusively) every morning. it just seems like these rare people are from a magical realm.
This is the most incredible countertenor voice I have heard ever and I know some of them - I am opera singer. Chapeau et merci beaucoup!
Is this guy real? He is unbelievably good!!!
This guy is possibly one of the best counter tenors of today..lets hope he records.
Hermosisima voz, lindisimo timbre, afinacion exacta, e intrepratacion maravillosa. Tremendo contratenor. Me fascina!
A beautiful performance. The ensemble was very good, and Philippe Jaroussky was superb. Over all, a splendid rendition of a true classic. Such a magnificent performance is rare.

Wow, wow, wow! That is all I can say. He is a rising star in the Baroque world. A voice that has such agility and such warmth. Listening to it haunts my very soul. I fear I may be in love.

The Divine Jaroussky.
he's NOT a castrado

fabuloso!!! tão raro ouvir tanta musicalidade numa sá pessoa
I.. don't know what to say... ...really
Maravilloso momento musical ! Muchas gracias Philippe. Auguri !!!!!

Can't stop listening.Nunca ouvi nada tão belo cantado numa voz masculina. Soberbo
Wow...amazing, beautiful voice, heavenly!
If he is a counter-tenor, then I'm a counter-terror!

Bravo Philippe ! La pureté de votre voix est céleste !
Bravo!!!!!
It's not that he chooses to sing this way. Look up countertenors and you will understand. His voice is naturally pitched this way.

Amazing voice, he makes it sound so effortless and natural. The best performance I've heard of this by the musicians too.
Oh my God, like a singing bird...
It's called Vedro con mio diletto.

Please, give some credit to the Great Composer Antonio Vivaldi as well. This is only one of his minor works, but sublime.
Grande musicista, grande musicista. Ogni volta che lo sento rimango attonito.
La voie de l'Ange. Dire que la beauté n'existe pas.... Impossible !
perfect voice...
Mon Dieu!!!

I think his voice from La fontaine... Gosh, when I listen him, I am not here.... just a heaven
He has absolute control of his vocal chords. Magnifico!!!!Congratulations.

Wonderful music! not for any ear understand and tune ...
@serenaluce I have to admit that I can't understand how a person can judge and say what is the true and the fake art . We are talking about ART, here.
