"Shattered" is UK slang for being extremely tired. The song is basically about the wild, crazy life of New York City in the 70s. Just being there made them feel tired all over.

Yes indeed. I have always loved Led Zeppelin and the Stones. My singing voice is more like Robert Plant than anyone else, and I took my drumming style directly from John Bonham. Only when I veered into playing live with a band that had a more Stones feel did I realize that their style of simple is a bitch to emulate well. Bonham and Watts were certainly kings of groove and feel!

The Rolling Stones dropped their Some Girls album in 1978 and it quickly zoomed to number one in the charts worldwide. "Shattered", "Beast of Burden", "Just My Imagination (Running Away with Me)" -- yes they covered The Temptations classic -- and "Miss You" -- another ode to New York City. When you check out "Miss You" -- I say when because that's one you must check out -- be sure to listen to the full length album version -- with the saxophone solo -- instead of the truncated shorter version. The album version is four minutes forty eight seconds long, so you'll know you've got the right version if it clocks in at that duration.

It is so hard for me to believe this came out in 1978. This was my very first concert. The Stones "Some Girls" tour. Anaheim Stadium Southern Cali, 80,000 people, festival seating, high as a kite, the Stones were 5 HOURS LATE!!!! Still, it was an experience.

"Schmatte" is a Yiddish word for "rags". In modern times, it refers to the New York garment district. The importance of the place was put front and center in reality shows like Project Runway, RuPaul's Drag Race, and America's Top Model.

This song is written about NYC and the industry during the 70s. IMO great song writers write songs with heavier meanings set to upbeat and quirky music. The tune grabs you and you continue to listen.

BRAD IS A DEEP THINKER and very analytical AND BREAKS DOWN THE MUSIC WHICH IS GOOD.... HE KNOWS WHAT MAKES A GOOD SONG and music........LEX IS VERY ABSTRACT SHE has what is called aesthetics
philosophy that deals with the principles of beauty and artistic taste. pertaining to, involving, or concerned with pure emotion and sensation as opposed to pure intellectuality
She has what they told me in art school I lacked.. SHE FEELS AND GOES WITH THE FLOW IF IT MAKES HER FEEL GOOD LIKE DANCING...or it brings on a happy thought. SHE LIKES IT....two very different ways of thinking....YOU GUYS MAKE THE PERFECT COUPLE LIKE A MAGNET one minus atom and one positive atom YOU ATTRACT EACH OTHER stay ☺ ☺ happy always and have fun ...love your videos

You guys should check out “Fingerprint File” from the Stones. Released in 1974, it’s pretty unique even by today’s standards. At some parts Jagger is just speaking, in others he’s whispering. It’s an awesome funk rock song with great lyrics.

Variety, Brad...it's what makes music great.
Some music is simple and two or three chords while other music may be much more complex.
Check out the film, "Mr Holland's Opus."
It explains music and how we interpret and listen to it.

Great reaction. Some Girls was my first Stones album that wasn't a greatest hits. I played this over and over and over again. Never got tired of it.
Also, he was describing the mood of Manhattan in the late '70s. Dirty, gritty, sexy and full of phonies, but they love it.

The term “schmatta” is a Yiddish word that typically is defined as a rag or ragged piece of clothing. ... Of course, the song's reference to “7th Avenue” pertains to New York City's garment district which is or used to be known as the “Schmatta District.”

The lyrics are a bleak picture of life in New York City.
The Stones always had a love/hate relationship with the US, and Mick Jagger's lyrics were often influenced by his thoughts on the country (see "Satisfaction"). New York in particular is a place where you could be wildly successful, but is also a city filled crime, drugs, and poverty. It should be noted that The Stones have taken shots at their home country of England as well, notably on "Hang Fire."

Throw Times Square, Plato’s Retreat, Thurman Munson’s mustache, Death Wish, Studio 54, the Son of Sam, CBGBs, and the blackout of ‘77 into a blender, and you get Shattered, the greatest rock song about 1970s New York City!
