As an Australian, I personally find the birds to be the weirdest animals we have. They act so differently, their calls are so unique, and some birds as adorable as the Kookaburra (I learnt this recently) are considered a bird of prey when their closest relatives are kingfishers, though I guess that's fair tho, watching an oversized kingfisher bash a snake on the sidewalk

You don't need to defend yourself, we get it, I've never seen a moose or a wild platypus! Interesting, some was cruel! Animals naturally graze and sleep where there's food, safety, warmth! Many lose their usual habitat when houses are built! It's normal to see visiting Kangaroos in many places, but it's cruel to feed the wild ones or let your dogs or kids chase them! I really love our crazy birds, and Kookaburras always make me smile! The baby Koala was being told to leave the tree, it's time to grow up kid, sad noise! 😩

Just wanted to add that the way you pronounce echidna is not to pronounce the h so its ekidna. The kangaroos are more prevalent in rural areas you won't find them in the city roaming around. Most of the time you will see them dead on the side of the road than jumping around.

Charlie you dont actually have possums in the US you have opossums they are not related. Australia has been cut off from the rest of the wolrd for many thousands of years probably since the last ice age our wildlife has developed differently and is usually unique to this continent. You will find some species on surrounding islands for example there are cassowarys and tree kangaroos on the Island of New Guinea. Other countries like NZ has introduced wildlife from Australia like possums but over there they are considered as a pest that do enviromental damage.

Aussie possums are cute, but don't underestimate their claws. Our cat is one of many to almost die from being attacked by one. We didn't find him until the next day after he'd suffered from heavy blood loss and dehydration. The possum had got him right down the middle of his tongue. He was at the vets for days on drip. He lost a bit of his tongue, be he recovered. Unfortunately, he now has cancer in his paw.

I agree with you. If you haven't seen them before how would you know? Especially if they look like a miniature of something you have seen. Be kind people.
Yes it is said like e-kid-na. I've seen a few in places I never thought i would like the beachfront in a coastal town.
Kangaroos can disembowel you with their back legs. Watch out when they lean back on their tails and swipe their back legs down. You should always be wary of them especially the big guys.
We have brush tailed possums like you saw or ring tailed possums that are smaller and cuter and sugar gliders.
Koalas scream and grunt and can be quite grumpy.
We have a family of Kookaburras that visit us regularly and tap on our windows to let us know they are there. Baby Kookaburras sound so funny when they start out with their call.
I don't think I have ever seen a platypus in the wild.
Unfortunately I have seen many dead wombats on the side of the road in the country. There are fairly slow and don't stand a chance against semi trailers.
I love our native animals and birds. I live in an area where we have King Parrots, Rosellas, Sulphur Crested Cockatoos, Rainbow Lorikeets, Galahs, Gang Gangs, Black Cockatoos, Kookaburras, Satin Bower Birds and Red Wattle birds, all of which I have seen in our backyard. Not to forget Butcher Birds, Magpies, Kurrawong black and the larger grey and many types of finches. I live close to a National Park hence so many species. I love listening to all the various calls.
    I ❤ Australia.😊

    THE TOUCHING STORY OF LULU.
Some years ago an Australian news story featured a farming family who rescued a Joey.( baby kangaroo) Sadly its mother had been hit and killed by a car. They nurtured the tiny helpless creature and brought it up as a family pet.
Fast forward to the now fully grown kangaroo, very much a part of the family.
One day the normally quiet and contented family pet began making really loud noises and acting ever so strangely outside the house. When the worried family rushed outside to see what was upsetting the kangaroo, they found it standing next to the man of the house who was motionless on the ground in an unconscious state after a tree branch fell on top of him. Help came quick and the man was emergency airlifted 90 mile to the Melbourne hospital with head injuries. However today he is alive and well and made a full recovery thanks to, Lulu, the kangaroo. This happened in 2003. Never underestimate the love of an animal. 🦘🇦🇺

  • @katetoner3077
    @katetoner3077 12 дней назад

Echidnas lay eggs and have a pouch. Platypus also lay eggs and have a venomous spur (males) Our possums you might hear scurrying over the tin roof at night, could just about set your clock by them but they scream bloody murder if you disturb them. We don't have rabies here but the koalas have clymedia. We don't keep our native animals as pets except special circumstances. Even if a magpie joins your family, councils will apply fairly stringent guidelines to do with their care. Magpies live for 25-30 years and sometimes will become pals with the family dog/s and play all day. They are very smart and entertaining. Some people keep a cockatoo, but that is a huge commitment as they can live for up to 100 years.😊

Love what you do and stuff those who don’t know better when they write the crap they do.
Years ago I worked at a Government facility which was surrounded by bush land. Every day you would find kangaroos, wallabies, hares, beautiful birds and we were very close to the Brisbane River. Sadly I never saw koalas. We would leave water out for the others as we were going through a bit of a drought and hellish hot weather. You would find the kangaroos and wallabies laying down in the shade between buildings and sometimes at the main entrance. We would have to walk around them to get to our cars. Unfortunately as we were close to other government facilities and suburbia you would usually come across dead kangaroos on the side of the road. I had brush tail possums and occasional ringtail possums living in my garage. Noisy little buggers when they fight and run back and forth over your roof but beautiful. Also had dear close to where I lived at the time. I don’t have any of them where I live now, sucks big time. Oh I do have bloody magpies and other beautiful birds here. Maybe you’re supposed to be clairvoyant Charlie, don’t worry about negative comments the rest of us are because we like you and your channel. Kookaburras just laugh. I may have shared this before but a big grey disemboweled one of our cattle dogs not pretty. The kangaroos that live in the national park at my cousins make a beeline straight for any empty carports and wait till it’s over

one of our neighbours here in south west WA lost a dog which chased a big roo into the dam. it drowned and ripped it open. most just run away but its the emu's that can really fk up a dog, especially when the dads have their chicks around. a visitor here didnt leash their dog when told to and had its scalp ripped off from a swift kick to the head

Kangaroos are wild animals. People should not let their dogs or children go near them. Period!

Having a kangaroo in a ring is vulgar and offensive. Straight out abuse. It is not a sport and you'd be up for charges for animal cruelty here. Plus kangaroos can disembowel people.
I know your only learning about our country and culture but most Australians would take issue with seeing that.

back in the 70s some people had a big male roo they displayed at a series of boxing matches, overseas i think. it would spar with them and the boxers played along except for an italian. he started knocking it about for real hey, the roo was like "its like that is it" and went back on its tail and literally kicked him across the ring. he was off to the hospital with internal bruising and a broken rib or 3.
