I do like the thread of the Galacians trying repeatedly to board the enemy and earn glory the typical way before those two ships at the end, seeing their commander slain and his fancy longship sinking, decide "Screw it, ram them!"
With Rome 2 in moving armies at sea, the yellow and red arrows about what movement will be allowed can't necessarily be trusted. Usually, if you are in range to land, within the yellow arrow, you can in fact land the army ashore, provided it isn't along sheer cliffs. The game isn't going to apply the yellow shading to the ground you would like to disembark onto. But you will go ashore just the same. The reverse is also true: if you want to put an army to sea, the yellow and red arrows will make it appear that it'll take two turns, when it only takes one. I can't play test this right now, but I am fairly certain that an army in port at Ephesus can land on Rhodes if it has full movement points.
The reason the ships went around the isle of Rhodes is they avoided the zone of control from Rhode harbor, had you forced them in and rhodes didn't counter attack, you could have proceeded teh short way like you wanted in the north channel.
The most important thing to remember is that the ships in Rome 2 don’t turn on a dime so you need to constantly be wheeling them around to get them in an ideal position to ram or board enemy ships.
hey dave, Idk if you know this but with infantry that has pilum and the like you can actually hold alt when right clicking a target for them to go into melee instead. This is really useful when a unit has been attacked by an enemy but you've yet to give the command to attack as giving a ranged attack order will cause the unit to try and wheel around to throw their javelins (which leads to more losses).
I never noticed that in Shogun 2. But to be fair I got a bit over the top with patches and mods - I made it so in FOTS the infantry have bayonets so that could be part of it.
The spear troops in Shogun 2 do use their spears. But if you put spears against spears, only one spear unit will use their spears. The other will switch to swords. I've noticed some of your troops in this game switch from spear to axe much like that. Only a few, but it's happened.
The bridge box was fine, its actually quite a good tactic, you just used the wrong troops for it, the Shieldwall Spears would have served amazingly there. You also left the reinforcement of the syrians until too late, and the group at the other crossing should have started moving MUCH sooner
You also are waiting too long to bring in the 3 units from across the bridge to pin the enemy troops. I know you dont like the idea but slow motion is good because real time leaves one person a little too overloaded to react to everything all at once, where in a real war there would be dozens of officers making commands and adjusting to the battle on the fly. For every example of confusion and miscommunication on the battlefield from commanders there is also an example of troops acting on their own initiative to win the day. And while the game will replicate the former it wont replicate the latter, unless you lean a little on slow time.
“Gauls upon the open sea, whatever else will the gods inflict on us next?” Sounds like a nice loading screen quote tbh.
22:09 Your barely restrained lustfull sigh as you stare longingly at that barechested celtic man greatly amused me
The Galatians slowly becoming the Vikings of the mediterranean is an alternate history I can really get behind. 😆

One of my favorite bits about the narration is how it’s always at least a little bit self-serving
The new avatar is... surprising. It will take some getting used to, but it is very Gaulish.
Two episodes in one week! This is a treat.
Hello from the 5%! Thoroughly enjoying this series.
Perhaps we lost our brave general, but damn this ramming action was awesome 1:21:40

We're Galatians on the sea, we carry our axes and 'javaloon'. But their ain't no other Gauls so we tell tall tales and sing our Galatian tune!
Don’t be so sad about not getting to fight the Spartans; at this point in time, they were total pushovers anyway

I love the drawn images that started to appear in your episodes! Do you do them yourself or commission an artist?
the scribbles are mine

Is nice to see that this mod steers the General's Bodyguard into more variety than just "Royal Peltasts"
Some PTSD to be had from those.
