I've never actually been there, but I can understand the concept of your suggestion/fact. I do plan on going there soon as I got a new controller recently, but I'm currently a bit busy with some other games off-stream.
The way that with no other clear prompt except for this track and genuine environmental design, after the ride yet before progressing, the game made me look back and audiably thank the deer: "Hey! Thank you. Wish you luck out there." and then waiting for the deer to go off-screen before I slid down further... Just a silly person playing a silly game, yet that moment meant so much for me. I want more "games as art" that do these kinds of subtle moments. Rain World really is amazing for making you experience these wide ranges of emotions almost purely through how you interact with the game mechanically.
This song is really good, and really sad, I think. Its not like sad in the way someone you know just died. It's more like seeing your childhood home one last time before you move out forever. Its like returning to a place you haven't been to in a long time, and seeing how its changed.
I love this game for many things, but what really amazes me is its ability to evoke such emotions. I love this game for its community, for people writing comments like yours. Thank you so much for sharing it
Descending down into the fissure the first time. Travelling on the Rain Deer, seeing noots and centipedes and scavengers, all watching you descend into the one place nothing goes, while sun sets. With Sundown's motif in the background, it sounds quite solemn, like Slugcat has realized their journey is nearly over. The endless cycles of survival, pain, and death. It's no longer about survival. It's about going home, more or less. And, little slugcat. You're almost home.
I personally feel like this deer moment is much more mature and subtle, which goes to show the journey slugcat made from outskirts to here, but in a way the innocence of unseen land can indeed be more powerful than this moment
I feel like this song is almost sort of the sequel to Unseen Lands in a way. As if unseen Lands is the start of the first act. And Emotion Thread is the start of the third act.
Above all else this is my favorite track. I think it sums up the overarching theme in Rain World the best; Longevity. Surviving in a forgotten world with broken toys. This game is a masterpiece
its like, all of a sudden, its no longer about survival. that's not what you're here for now. you're continuing further below not just out of curiosity, but with a purpose
That's right. You've grown beyond the base desire to survive, as evidenced by your karma. It's amazing that the game can convey that feeling to the player without words.
It is here we shall part ways... Go back now... and hey... I just wanted to say... thank you.... I will think of you in the darkest of times.... I will never forget what you did for me.... I just wish I could repay you in any way...
What? If I owe something to the Rain Deer? NO! Those bastards that owe me! The amount of stress cannot be forgotten. the slugcat unfortunately gave up his ascension, it is a victory for the player, but a loss for that world. the dlc finally gave us a less melancholic and more exciting way out
(spoilers) It's said that the Ancients held celebrations when someone was preparing to ascend, similar to funerals or weddings. This is the song I imagine being played as they walk into The Depths. There's no going back now, so enjoy your last moments before the void swallows you whole.
@@Disorder2312 Who knows? I don't think they just decided to disappear, where would they go? I just think something happened and they all just.. dissapeared. Idk, for now it's a mistery how and why the Ancients aren't "existing" anymore

Rain World has hands down the best soundtrack for a game in the 2010s yet doesn't get nearly the level of recognition for it as some of the other games (maybe for the better). I constantly come back to these songs and have them in my regular rotation. I have not heard a game soundtrack this cold yet warm on the inside since the first Mario Galaxy.
I listened to this song in my car yesterday and just sat parked in front of my home for a while before going in. I spotted a deer in the wooded area next to me, we made eye contact. A video game helped me have a meaningful moment with nature. I have two kids of my own and play rain world co-op with my six year old. We don’t get far but we have fun. She’s my slug pup 🩵
this song is perfect for that last deer ride slugcat takes before decending into the fissure

Almost as beautiful and compelling as the one moment you walk into the unseen lands room.

Nothing like some Twin Peaks soundtrack to signal the slugcat beginning it's final journey
