      I never knew that. I traveled through that town (lived in Florida my whole life) butchered the name and my friend died laughing. Now that I know why it’s pronounced that way it makes sense.

    I've lived in Florida since '89 and I still got two 'wrong'. Also, they got Alachua right if you're talking about the county (where I live) but there is a city just north of Gainesville called Alachua, and it it pronounced, A-la-chu-way. Only in Florida, except it's not. I'd love to see a version of this with town names in Massachusetts.

    I’m from Kissimmee and love that the guy was SUPER accurate about staying here for cheap if you visit orlando. 😂 tourists EVERYWHERE. This is little Puerto Rico so we have a lot of good food to eat here. 🇵🇷

      Depends, my family has been there and surrounding areas for generations and say the pronunciation is depended on the person since it has changed. I mostly hear it pronounced Uh-lauch-u-way, I say it like the video, minus the choo is chu

      Reba's dad used to have a huge horse place down there and housed a bunch of warm bloods. Idk if it's still there but I was there years ago. Beautiful horses.

    Actually a lot of the names are native American. My father was born in Florida as we're my kids and my grandma and grandpa. God bless you all and I love your videos. PS a grandma of eight. And Mom of three branches of the military. Air Force Army and Navy. God bless us all.

    It's a-LACH-u-uh if it is the county, but a-LOCH-u-a if it is the city.
    Lived here since 2002 and still get in trouble for pronouncing them both the same.

    Lived in Florida my entire life. Never thought about how hard it would be for a NonFloridian to pronounce some of our place names until we went to Gettysburg on vacation. My hubby was was wearing an Alachua County shirt. People kept asking where Al-a-chew-a(short A). It's pronounced A-lawch-ooh-a lol

    Alachua is actually pronounced two ways:
    Alachua county is “A-latch-oo-uh”
    But the city of Alachua is actually pronounced “A-latch-oo-ay” by most locals

      Can confirm as someone who lives in Alachua (the town). Mostly the older generations (boomers and back) pronounce it Ala-choo-ay but younger gens tend to go for ala-choo-uh

    You should really do a video on town names in South Carolina, like: Coosawatchie, Daufuskie Island, Alcolu, Ashepoo, Dongola, Walhalla Elgin, and my hometown Lugoff. I get a kick out of people trying to pronounce my hometown. 99% of they time they say it wrong.
    You can also do one on weird town names like: Sugar Tit, Due West, Martin Sausage, Ninety Six, and Burnt Church Crossroads

      Seminoles are not very native(to Florida) actually. They were made up of remnants from other tribes outside Florida. Most of the actual Florida tribes were wiped out of existence or moved elsewhere. The Seminoles formed in the 1700's and tried claim all the territory in Florida that had been vacated. Most of the place names actually come from those earlier tribes...like Ocala which is named after a Timucua group that lived in that area.

    I was born and raised in Ocala, between Micanopy and Okahumpka. There was a hibiscus bush in our yard, and my sister, when she was little, called it "hot biscuits."

    This makes feel better, I work taking calls and sometimes have to pronounce names of Florida's cities I've never heard pronounced before and butcher the pronunciation most of the times.

      That's the only one I knew how to pronounce because I actually stayed there once. Pretty town, very dog-friendly, good restaurants and great BBQ (Eli's!). Really enjoyed my stay.

      My friend's mom was messing with me. I said it that way and she said it was Dun-ellin or something like that. I said your trying to get people to laugh at me and she swore it was. LOL

      @@dylansmith1738 Well, true we're not ~actually Midwest. But Kansas is the lower limit of the Midwest & they border us. So the Northern edge of Oklahoma picks up those influences. Same with the Southwest influence out in our panhandle. Like I said, we're a crossroads. That's why so much trucking and pipeline activity has a nexus here. And, hey, we gotta have that state meal to grow our big ol' ball players, right?

      YESS!!! I live in Virginia and I would love to see some people unfamiliar to some of our town names. Gloucester is one that I bet they will struggle with the most. Tightsqueeze is not hard to pronounce, but it is just an interesting one.

    Please do Louisiana! French names are really hard to know how they are said if you aren’t experienced! For example “Bossier” is pronounced “Baws-E-Air” (kind of like “paws E air” but with a B) but people WHO LIVE HERE call it “Boh-sure” but the “S” isn’t that harsh

    The announcers at the VEX Robotics World Championship pronounced Immokalee as im-muh-CAH-lee and I wasn't completely sure of the correct pronunciation until this video. (I've usually pronounced it correctly, though, and I got the correct pronunciation from either my dad or my brother.) I got most of the others wrong, though, and I thought Kissimmee was KISS-i-me when I first saw the name as a kid.
