Another classic driving test route looked at in the Edinburgh area. This route is featured regularly at the Currie test centre.
After leaving the test centre you head away from Edinburgh and find yourself on a small network of country roads heading up to Balerno.
A great route to be familiar with as it is used every day for driving tests and is in the opposite direction of where you will probably usually practice.
If you have any questions please let me know
Thanks
Angus
I've passed driving test in Currie test centre today and man, I must say that - examiner asked me the same route as you have covered in this video (only change was- he asked me to do bay parking on the way back to test centre). I was just recalling each comment you have mentioned in this video.

I did this exact same route yesterday but failed because I was too slow on the country roads. I managed to get up to 35 or close to 40 in some parts, but the examiner thought I wasn't making enough progress. In hindsight, I think I should have put my foot down more decisively and I would've got up to over 40.
@AngusDriving, I gather from this video that getting up to 45 would be like a good rule of thumb, isn't it?
Also, do you have any advice on how to get up to 45 quickly without feeling I'm rushing it too much.
Thank you so much for your videos! You're the best!!
Yeah 45 is usually a good speed on the straights, you will be making progress but able to react no problem to anything ahead. Of course if when you were going along a straight there was a cyclist, horse rider or pedestrian then you would go as slow as you needed to for the particular situation. As long as you are driving at a speed that you could smoothly stop within the distance you can see then you will be great. Good luck with the next attempt I’m sure you will be great 👍🏼
Excellent
Thanks glad you are finding the videos helpful
16:38 i failed my test there because i went right and I didn't realise the cars on the left have a green light too and they have priority.
It’s a common place people fail and really easily done. Hopefully you have passed now or are getting ready to resit again.
Thanks a lot🎉 very useful for me
You’re very welcome, really good to hear that you are finding them useful. Good luck with the driving.
The man!
Thank you so much
No problem
Haven’t done this route with my instructor. Is it a new route? Will need to get familiar with it. My test is in a week 😂
The route has been used for many years, it’s just a bit out of the way compared to other routes. Hopefully even if you haven’t driven it the video will give you the key points.
You'll have to redo this one now with new road layout at Balerno and new lights and sequenc👌
Just before returning to the test center... the bryce road roundabout.
I did not give way to a car, because I thought the road was wide enough to fit two cars.... anyway the oncoming car will go a bit left on the roundabout.
My instructor braked two times when this happened.
I know we are going a bit on the other side of the road, and we do that with other straight roads as well... when there are parked cars.
For safe side I will give way.
But could anyone make me understand, if both cars can pass and it's a 20 mph road, and the car being turning left on the roundabout anyway... except for safe driving, why should we wait there?
I'm not adamant on not giving way.. just trying to understand what's different here?
One way to view this is there is an obstruction on my side of the road, so I'll give way to the oncoming traffic because it's their priority.
Angus, question for reverse bay parking, there are many way of doing this, is it restricted any way?
You can do it however you like as long as you observe regularly over both shoulders and end up in the bay.
at closed junction, do i need to apply handbrake first then 1st gear then go, or can i use 1st gear then go?
If safe to go you can proceed
👍🏻
no reverse parking test on this route?
You could be asked to parallel park, just depends on what the examiner wants to do.
thanks, how many different test route the examiner going to use in general?
@@vichua5489 The examiner has many routes they could choose from. They no longer publish test routes. Basically they could go anywhere within a 15 minute drive from the test centre.
Pls I want to have my lessons , could you please send me ur number soo can fix it . Thank you so much
