Ok long rant haha good stuff people. I am one of the idiots who got this. It stands out in a swarm of Mazdas, Kias, Hyundais and absolutely dont regret buying it. Disagree with reviewer, ride quality is much better than mazda 3 and its cross over sibling. road noise tad more than Golf and Mazda, but absolutely fine. and everyone is right no one will buy this in numbers , because traditionally civic was a cheap run about . now rich ppl wont buy it coz badge snobs, and for other majority civic ppl the price is too high. But overall if you are sitting on the fence stuck between mazda, Golf, Focus and Kia Cerato (oh god) You wont go wrong with it. Other reviewers talked about Lumbar support but honestly after doing many miles, i dont feel like i needed one, i dont know what Honda did with seats, but they are pretty comfy. Centre arm rest is solid. no rattles or moves. CVT is not bad. This CVT is not a con for me it drove like mazda automatic very close. (in Normal and sport Mode) and in ECON mode you will be made aware that you are driving a CVT. I did feel one scenario where its underpowered, Overtaking on expressway in an incline with load when other car is going at 100Km . CVT craziness kicks in. (because you wont be doing this all the time. if this is absolutely important, then go for better car, but again none of its rivals do it good, u will have go for S3, GTI, i30N , or better torquey powerful engine. ) Engine start stop and Brake hold are smooth. there is 0.5 seconds delay if you cant handle it then just disengage, theres a button fot it. Compared to 10 gen , I feel this is genuinely a better car. (I am sure many here never even test drove the 10 gen ) 1.5 L turbo engine is amazing. Now the cons: No parking sensors. wth Honda. and I would like traffic sign recognition too, expect fuel figures close to 8-9L/100 km in city and 7-8 on highways. this thing can fly out of corners, (its not a type R , there is some understeer but brakes and chassis are so confidence inspiring , you wil end up going fast in the corners still ) so you will be flooring it. lack of sun roof if people think thats a con (I dont) . Lack of powered tail gate (I dont think its a con for me, its easy , door is not heavy) Honda cheaped out on small stuff which is what driving me nuts like parking sensors. reversing in the dark with tight surroundings is the only condition where you would miss them , for rest its fine, as it has good visibility. Other con is no Hybrid yet. Honestly I think it should be a 44.5K car max and its kit is good. so If you think U want to spend 5K extra for that name and badge , go for it. You wont regret. for all those people wh think its priced 10K over, pls just go for a test drive and also drive Golf and Mazda , kia certos back to back to understand why Honda was confident. they are not brainless maniacs. For Ppl holding out their monies for Type R, by all means stop seeing reviews, just buy it.
good engineering and interior design, it would really sell at 38k and become the top seller, unfortunately honda has just lost the plot about how price competitive the market is.
This will sell awfully. Honda was already struggling in this country. Not sure what they're thinking with this pricing structure. For people looking to spend 50k on a small car this won't even cross buyers minds.
I think Honda did well with the 10th-gen Civic, as it is quite a popular Civic generation in Australia, but I feel Honda lost its mojo again with the 11th-gen Civic.
Honda needs to bring the ute and more rugged SUV from the US to survive in Australia. They did not adapt to changes in consumer trends and deserve to fail.

A Top Spec Camry SL hybrid with all the tech n space n mileage is priced just 2k more than this small civic. No wonder Honda doesn't even mk it to top 15 in terms of sales
Just like everyone else's comments, I agree with what you're saying because this is definitely overpriced.... but a Camry is a dressed up shopping cart... they look better than ever, but drive like a bland uninspired golf cart. A Mazda 3 on the other-hand is great to drive, good quality and also cheaper.
It actually seems like a decent improvement and I like the look, but at $47k, who is buying this? From what I’ve noticed, people who are buying civics are generally younger or looking for a second family car, and those types aren’t going to spend or even have $47k. It also dosnt have the brand recognition of others in the same price range so people will not want to fork out that much. I can see the type r selling but that will be a niche car appealing to enthusiasts and that won’t keep Honda afloat. At this point Hyundai and Kia is more appealing to the everyday person in terms of quality, features and price . I really think this will be a bust.
I have a love for Civics as it was my first ever car but when you see a price of almost 50k in 2021, you expect to see parking sensors everywhere and a 360 camera at the minimum. The Top of the range Mazda 3 offers so much more for almost 10k less 😯

$48k is a ridiculous price for a mainstream small hatch, just spend a whole $10k less and get a high spec Mazda3 sedan/hatch. And Honda has fixed pricing in Australia, making the potential gap between the Mazda, even larger, tell ‘em they’re dreaming, it’s almost as if Honda does want to become unprofitable in Australia the way they’re going. Not even a $30k entry model like the Mazda to tempt buyers without all the features. You could argue it feels a bit more special than a Corolla but a Mazda3 makes this car entirely redundant at this price point.
Yeah... Honda Australia 🇦🇺 has literally fallen on their own sword making this 47k disaster that no one wanted. They recently stopped making them but a new type r was a few grand more if you love your civics making this new civic a bad investment choice. The armrest might slide backwards and forwards like some of the accords do which is why its sliding around on you. It sadness me to say this but Mazda is now the prestige japanese car manufacturer that Honda use to be. The slopping roof style on the rear seats seriously needs to stop happening its killing practicality for teenagers and adults and reduces the drivers rear view vision. Why cant they make a rectangular foldable lid with an optional divider for cup holder so it can used for storage instead of only cup holders?and the lid can be closed to not attract thieves loking through the window of cars in a parking lot? And at 13:50 wow man that havah h6 bounce looked very scary 😱

Biggest shock to me was no front or rear parking sensors?! WTF? That is like standard on basic cars, this thing is almost 50K. Also can't stand the rear incandescent bulbs.
@@lamborghini0610 I agree for example the top of the range Mazda 3 offers so much more for almost 10K less, but to be fair the Hyundai i30/Elantra N has front & rear incandescent bulbs for 54K which is ridiculous.

Why would you buy from a non mainstream brand like Honda…..if you want Japanese get a Toyota otherwise get the Germans. Other brands aren’t even worth considering imo
It’s nice but absolutely not worth $47k, they should’ve priced it more in line with the top spec Mazda 3 (app. $38k) and they should have at least 1 lower end trim that is cheaper such as a VTI-L or VTI-S
Not impressed with the price. I remember when the stop spec civics where in the low 30's 47K is just way to much. Cost of cars are going up way to high for the normal every day person esp as our pay packets are not going up :(

Honda Australia is seriously closing itself off to the Australian new car buyer. One feels they don’t have a desire to be in Australia. Honda Australia have stopped importing and selling the Jazz. The new Jazz is available as an e-HEV hybrid version across the ditch in New Zealand with an infotainment system and AC controls are very similar to the new Civic. The range of Honda cars offered in Australia is limited and no longer enticing to the new car buyer. The CVR was introduced in 2017 with a mild makeover in 2020 which included very minimal cosmetic changes like a new grill, bumpers, a smoked taillight cluster, different wheels and a trapezoidal exhaust tip replacing the round ones, not forgetting a phone charger for the top VTI-L model. Not a great effort by any facelift standard. The Honda Accord is very nice car, but another large sedan that is hardly on anyone’s shopping list. SUVs and Utes are the rage today. So, the Accord won’t bring any buyers into the showroom. The HRV is also aging with its underpowered and noisy engine, one would have thought they would have used the Civic’s 1.5 turbo unit on the HRV. Lastly the Odyssey, who buys People Movers today? Now we have the 11th Gen Civic priced at $47,200. One model, one price. Honda has shut its door to the 30k-40K buyer who, until the launch of the 11 Gen Civic, could get themselves into a brand new 10th gen Civic hatch within that price range, including the range topping RS which included parking sensors. These buyers will now walk across the yard to Kia, Hyundai, Mazda or Toyota to spend their hard-earned dollars. You’ve lost out on sales Honda with your Honda Price Promise, there is no Joy in buying from you. To sell a Civic at $47,200 in 2022 with no parking sensors, not sunroof or option for one, no USB at the back, no ventilated seats in the front, no heated steering wheel, no full digital instrument display and still using USB-A connections is a recipe for disaster . Why is Honda so afraid to step into the future with USB-C and other technologies that the Koreans and other rivals are using. Just brand loyalty will not sell cars. So which buyer is Honda targeting in Australia with the new Civic?
Whomever they are targeting will not buying it anyway as there are other options for that target group. Honda Australia is totally lost touch with us. They are the the only party losing here. We have other options to choose from
I predict they will sell bugger all of these, and it’ll speed up the death of Honda in Australia. Many people who want a family hatch don’t have $47k for the fully loaded top spec model. They can afford the $35k mid spec or may be happy with the $25k base model (considering a modern “base model” still has all the required safety features as well as Apple CarPlay, aircon, power windows etc). Honda Australia must be hating this decision
Really imoressive. I was impressed with how how nice and tactile the switches and buttons felt. Reminded me of a Lexus. Great feedback. The standard IRS really helps to give the Civic best in segment dynamics in the mainstream models. It also looks great with this new gen. Love the wheels shown here. I wanted to not like the Civic as some of it was carryover but Honda has done a great job.
Brother they must be walking away from Australia .. I looked at one a year ago just over $30,000 for the base model ( for the great unwashed ) that's me, how anyone could look at this latest dumping here in Australia is beyond me because for the same or less money you can get so serious car... I can still buy a Corolla sedan for under $30,000 new and that's 90% of what you get with the Honda costing$17,000 more.🤪
Lol 47k! No forward and reverse sensors! What are they smoking seriously? A deserved failure if ever there was. A Tesla Model 3 licks this clean and is not much more considering the performance and features on offer and is a class or two bigger than this.
An impressive review as always Paul. I am surprise to hear this kind of price from Honda. I own a civic hatch '18 VTi-S which has better features including park sensors, lane assist camera etc., than the latest version. It costed me around $25k during that period and comes with 7yr warranty and capped service. That is a great value for money compared to what I am seeing now. I respect Honda for their reliability but not at this price. They did good job at the exterior and interiod design part, but definitely not added $20k worth goodies after all these years. Design and ride quality may be subjective but value for money is something common for every car buyer. Honda did a terrible job in that space.
Vtis has the 1.8 motor not the 1.5turbo, also has no maps, no blind spot monitor, no lane keep assist or active cruise control, doesn’t have active city break system. Has 17 or 16 inch wheels and a horrible material on the seats instead of the leather. I belive your model still has a key barrel too. Capped price service for this civic is also cheaper then yours at dealerships. It is a huge step up over your 25000 dollar civic with many more features . But I do agree it’s not worth nearly 50k.
Honda should’ve priced this similar to the astina, a starting price from approx. $38k. Though I’d personally buy a used mk7.5 golf r instead for the same money as the new civic
@@CarExpertAus I don’t think the Honda handles $10k better than the Mazda though, or $18k if you want to talk about the fairly well equipped base model version Mazda offers. That was already pretty much the segment leader, and again there’s choice there so you don’t need to get the divisive hatch, get the traditional sedan which sort of looks like the liftback vibe of the Civic.
A $10k premium over its direct competitors? If you think this is decent for the money i have to ask, Are you smoking something? On price this is actually trying to line up against the i30 N, not N-line.
No one is gonna buy this, the Civic was good at its previous trim selections and pricepoints. The base level was decent and the RS was cool at about $37k. Regardless, the top trim Mazda 3 (G25 Astina or X20 Astina) just blows this out of the water. The red leather interior (hatch) or white leather interior (sedan) is leagues above this, and in my opinion, competes if not beats the interiors of Mercedes/BMW/Audi. Plus you get a plethora of tech with the top trim Mazda 3 and the design is just gorgeous along with their lineup of paint selections (subjective, I know). You can even add a Kuroi bodykit to the G25 Astina hatch, which makes it look even more sporty and adds some depth. And even then, it is cheaper than this 2022 Civic. The design of this 2022 Civic is actually quite nice imo, and if they stuck with this but had a variety of trims at cheaper pricepoints, it would do well and compete with Toyota and Mazda as usual. Good review btw, just not a fan of this strategy by Honda. Mazda for the win!
Gone are the day when Honda & Toyota mean cheap car with high quality. They ain't competitive anymore apart from their "image" of reability which most others manufacturers has catch up to
I absolutely loved Hondas in the 90’s and early 2000’s, however this is further confirmation that Honda has totally lost the plot. $47k?! 😂 Is this the new iteration of a 90’s Honda Accord as it is priced accordingly (pun intended).
I’m really struggling to see how you think it’s a good car. $47200 for a car with no parking sensors or 360 camera. 0-100 is 8.4 sec and technology that was great 10 years ago is not a good value proposition. I’m seriously doubting your credibility after watching this review
@@CM-le4yh Yea maybe in a world where the Mazda3 didn’t exist with more equipment for $10k less, while being a premium Japanese car that drives well, with better dealership presence, parking sensors, 360 camera, class leading Mazda connect system like BMW iDrive over a touchscreen, heated electric seats, head up display, same Bose Audio… and the price gap is bigger than you think as the Mazda is negotiable and Honda is arrogantly fixed price.
An i30n sedan is not much more yet offers a whole different level of performance and arguably better tech. Well done Honda, keep this sort of stuff up and your woeful sales will turn into non existent sales.
I'd argue a base model Tesla 3 is also competitive when considering green finance options and running costs. And then you're on a completely new level.
The Hyundai Elantra/i30 looks hideous especially the front end, anything else I agree it’s a little bit better than the Honda. Personally I’d still get the Civic tho just for the looks of it.
Within the first month of ownership the entire engine cover came off on the freeway. Then another piece came off 1 month later. Both fixed at dealership on separate occasions. The air flow lighting has never worked or lit up. I thought that was just the way it was. I was wrong. Taking that to get fixed. Dashboard makes cracking noises when going over bumps. Electric seats make creaking noises when moving. Audio cuts in and out constantly and navigation screen gets blurry and freezes. Averaging 27mpg constantly no matter how I drive. I just don’t understand what’s going on. I have a 2003 Honda Civic with 400,000 miles. I’ve never had issues with that car like this 2022 touring. Got the video and proof

I lament the lack of decently specified manual sedans in this country. When the time comes to replace my 2011 Civic VTi-L, the nearest alternative looks like a WRX. Honda deserves to do better in Australia but really doesn't help themselves with high prices and a lack of choice.
Currently the EX trim (which is the top trim in Japan) sells for 3539800 yen which is AUD 43703. After all it might not be that expensive but with this price we certainly have a lot of choices
While the review was standard as always cant say the same thing about his opinion though. The value proposition simply isn't there since there's nothing unique about it whatsoy. If the car was $10k cheaper then yes it's great value but the market has much better alternatives these days for less money. Or you can also get a second hand car with much higher specs. The price is simply outrageous and on top that Honda is now selling cars based on a fixed price model. So good luck with sale figure.
That’s the thing. How does this compete with the Mazda3? It is positioned as the same kind of car, beloved Japanese marque making a premium and fun to drive small car, under a famous nameplate, bit pricier than before but feels more expensive than it is. This just takes the pricing to a whole new level but I can’t see it as being significantly better than the 2.5L sedan. It’s a shame they had to price it like this, they could’ve garnered a ton of sales for $10k less vs this is dead on arrival. They also should’ve kept the VTI-S models around to compete against Mazda3 Pure/Evolve
I have to say its totally not worth it. I was shocked when you showed the key, only 2 buttons? Are we back in the 90s? Then, no digital dashboard like the American Civic? No parking sensors? and that rear camera, I don't think it's a good resolution at all, it seams as grainy as my 10th gen Civic Touring. Also, what the hell Honda has in their minds to not put USB outlets in the back, you can clearly see they've reserved space for it down the rear air vents, and the American Civics do have that. Come on Honda, it's almost 2022, we need our USB outlets.
You guys should be thankfull Here in Indonesia we got USB outlet in the back for the passenger But we don't have : 1. Wireless charging 2. Bose audio sound system 3. 18 inch wheel And the price is 55.557 AUD. Oohh Hell yeah "Thats reason why you should be thankfull"
it looks nice but sadly there's no sedan version because due to the sales so they not doing it for some reason and trim levels maybe add later or next year's onwards
Certainly a pro review. You need to be watching lots of reviews to see what is missing here: Parking sensors - listed on the review, no issues there. Glaring in it being not on the car though. Power tailgate - nothing said. At 47K, you'd need to have one. No mention of it. Spare tyre - nothing said. Do you even get tyre goop? Charging pad being able to be turned off - why is this even a thing? You forget to turn it on and you arrive with low battery...designers who are here, please enlighten me. The rattles on the centre console are horrible when you looked at build quality. Why not mention it there. We all heard it. No mention of the piddling pete on the rear windshield that looks as though a nudist got caught in a snowstorm. That really looks misplaced, especially when it could've been closer to the antenna. All in all, it can't compete with the Cerato, i30, Mazda3 or Corolla. Cerato has better power/weight, i30 has digital dash, Mazda3 has a better engine, Corolla has its hybrid system.
You'd be crazy not to consider a base model Tesla 3 against that price, when factoring in running costs and resale value, if you do any kind of decent KMs.
That's a tough sell. Base Model 3 drive away price is still just over 65k vs 47k for the Honda. Personally the Tesla's my preferred buy but extra 20k for sub 500km range (in Aus too) you'll be relying heavily on what you can get for resale. Also, maintenance is cheap but insurance and repair not so much. I'd say it out-competes the shit out of every og luxury car within it's price bracket through to about double.
@@lamborghini0610 Look resale on Teslas can be pretty insane so you might be able to get a win there. Top spec Camry is about 4.5k more than the Honda (always hard to pin down exact price depends on state and dealer etc) and that's only around 5k out of reach for Tesla's cost after savings estimate (including 3k Victorian ZEV bonus and however they calculate petrol) but the Camry depreciation is WAY higher than the Tesla since the base model is about 35k new. Biggest factor definitely has to be resale, I wouldn't wanna be knocking the Tesla around or running it into the ground. A lot of people are really bias against them so I'll just say it again, I'd definitely prefer the Tesla although base model 3 kind of sucks a bit. I'd say it's a hard sell spending an extra 15-20k on a new car for the proposition of saving money, and I've definitely seen horror stories for price hiked Tesla maintenance and repair not covered under warranty which would obliterate any of the earlier discussion but if you treat it like the (theoretically) depreciating asset it is I guess that's just part of the financial risk.
@@jasonlast7091 lots of great points! If you have solar roof, that is another factor as you can recharge for opportunity feed in. The EV tax (if in "progressive Victoria" lol) then becomes greatest running cost. The other thing is if you rely on finance then it's hard to beat the Tesla 2.99% effective interest - it's less than half what I paid on my current car - a Subaru Outback 2011, still running. Or more like a third. (yes, I know I was dumb). RWD model 3 has some great features such as never needing to worry about (LFP) battery, even though max range is less than the LR then you'll effectively have more of a similar range as the LR shouldn't be 100%ed all the time. (Edit: at 80% charge the LR will still be somewhat ahead, but yeah it's a great equaliser from a certain point of view. Hard to argue with AWD handling and performance though).
@@jasonlast7091 another thing that will affect resale values is fuel prices. If we suddenly see a true spike then I believe Tesla will struggle to satisfy demand for their cars. The model 3 is significantly more efficient than any other EV on the market, just look at battery capacity vs range - so they should by all indications retain their resale value far, far better than say a Nissan Leaf.
It's nice but at almost 50k, I'd rather go with the premium Germans - the BMW 1 Series, Audi A3, Mercedes A-Class, all of which have far superior build quality and driving dynamics. If this Civic was priced between 30 - 35k, it would be a great option but unfortunately that's not the case
And if you wanted great build quality and driving dynamics without the long term reliability issues Euro cars have over Japanese ones, you’d be hard pressed to find a better option than paying $10k less and getting into the Mazda3

1400kg for a small car is a fair chunk. It's not light. My 20 year old skyline weighs 1450 with a V6. No spare, no sensors (F/R) for 47k is not on. Honda CVTs aren't too bad I will say, Honda make their own transmissions.
Wow that's a huge price for a Civic. Honda have missed the boat with not having a mid-level car at a lower entry price. Not everyone is going to want to spend $50K on a mid size car.
Previous 2012 Civic VTis owner, now a current 1yo Mazda 3 owner. I would consider the Mazda the current class leader, hence why I bought it I was able to negotiate a price slightly on the Mazda. The Honda is no chance of negotiating a deal. A G25 Astina is at this price point, if not cheaper. It has vision technology, sliding sunroof and a 2.5 NA motor with a standard torque converter. I just cant see how Honda can charge this much when there are much better cars out there. Might be a good car but at this price point it doesnt deserve to be a sales success.
If this was $10k cheaper it would be competitive with a high end Mazda3. This kind of pricing is ridiculous. As you said no room to negotiate and there is a smaller dealership presence (Honda is basically dying here) compared to Mazda where Australia is one of its strongest markets. It’s almost as if Honda is taking the piss and wanting to be shown out of Australia due to poor demand. Not to mention even though it’s no price leader, the Mazda3 range has a well equipped base model with LED lights, adaptive cruise, all the safety tech, head up display, as standard at $30k. Honda isn’t even offering a range of variants to boost sales - with the Mazda there’s 6 grades (I think 8 now), with 3 different engines, 2 transmissions and the option of sedan or hatch. Pretty much providing an option for everyone. This one is a take it or leave it proposition.
I reall don't understand the pricing between different countries. The civic is 50K AU in Thailand where I live and that is actually cheaper than a top spec 2.0 mazda 3 - we don't get the 2.5. And the 10th gen civic was about the same price, but I read that was much cheaper in Australia.
I own a Honda euro wagon , which has been awesome. But now I’m sick of Honda putting very boring new models over the last decade or so. I really don’t want to like this car, but I do. It doesn’t do everything perfect but it does most things really well. Bugger!!!
2 years later and the price is not that far from the cars it's competing with. The Golf R-Line is now 48k, the Mazda 3 G25 GT is 46k, Cupra Leon V is 48k (has a more powerfull and torque engine).
Personally if I had about $50k to spend on a car I'd be tossing up between the Focus ST and i30N. Have some fun before going EV, certainly wouldn't be buying an overpriced, CVT equipped Civic from a company that I can't see being around too much longer with the prices they're now charging. I'd imagine the Type-R has to be around $70k? 😆
47k is si price, if it has more power 10at or dct with lsd, might worth 50k. But for normal civic I don’t think they will sell many, it looks nice tho.
Forget the boring Thai-made Civic sedan but Civic 5 door streamline coupe is fast and economical rather than a hatchback; VTiLX is the sole premium Gran Tourer instead of the ordinary family car focuses on sport and economy which powers with only 1.5 L4 turbo intercooler goes best with 94 ron e10 unleaded as clean fuel; while Civics got Hybrid and a Type R in future we want to see more Civics 1.5 turbo comes with entry VTiL and sporty VTiR instead of VTiS and RS respectively.
Get a used type R or pre-owned lexus or Merc or anything else, Euro tech is already years ahead of most Japanese. Seriously, there is no noticeable difference in engine and numbers from the original 10th gen which I owned since 2016 and now gone, replaced it with a Merc GLA. The civic is still CVT with no manual option, priced similar to the previous gen Accord which is now gone, the Jazz is gone. The Mazda G25 GT is nearly 10k cheaper and has more power, torque and has similar tech and comforts.... and the Honda fixed price scheme is a loser in Australia, we love to haggle. But as there is no other trims or levels, the Civic name is lost.
Not sold on this review. The point of the review is, is it worth 47.5k? And let's be honest, it isn't. In this price point you would think the car would come with a full LCD dash cluster, rear charging ports, more power, parking sensors and full 360 cameras, heads up display, sports lip kit and spoiler etc...
I got my 10th generation civic from 2016. Still looks better than this car ! It’s really popular model you can see it on road everywhere. Seriously for latest 2022 upgrade it missing parking sensors, blind spot camera, smaller engine, 20k and more expensive? So you would still buy it ? Please given honest verdict reviews
This civic already has problems stacking up. Brake pedal malfunction off showroom floor. Moisture build up in new LED headlight units…reliability slipping. Buyer beware
Wouldn’t buy one. Honda is trying to justify the high price point by saying it has all the bells and whistles. Rubbish! No parking sensors, no 360 camera and no usbs in the back. Not to mention the ridiculous agency model Honda is using now. Farewell Honda Australia. Holden’s demise was expected and yours will be next.
Needs a plug in hybrid version. Then I would get this. The hybrid is close. But Mazda MX-30 will be out next year as a plug in hybrid with 200 lb-ft of torque.
This doesn't even rival the corolla or i30. They're asking for too much with outdated and lack of technology. Still using incandescences and no parking sensors or 360 degree camera at $47k? In addition, servicing prices aren't capped like other competitors and no longer doing negotiations. Disappointing, Honda has lost its touch in the Australian market.
Count on one hand with a few fingers left over the amount of these I have seen on the road, one Surprisingly a Typer R!. I dont think Hondas new pricing is working out to well.

Disagree with reviewer, ride quality is much better than mazda 3 and its cross over sibling. road noise tad more than Golf and Mazda, but absolutely fine.
and everyone is right no one will buy this in numbers , because traditionally civic was a cheap run about . now rich ppl wont buy it coz badge snobs, and for other majority civic ppl the price is too high. But overall if you are sitting on the fence stuck between mazda, Golf, Focus and Kia Cerato (oh god) You wont go wrong with it.
Other reviewers talked about Lumbar support but honestly after doing many miles, i dont feel like i needed one, i dont know what Honda did with seats, but they are pretty comfy.
Centre arm rest is solid. no rattles or moves.
CVT is not bad. This CVT is not a con for me it drove like mazda automatic very close. (in Normal and sport Mode) and in ECON mode you will be made aware that you are driving a CVT. I did feel one scenario where its underpowered, Overtaking on expressway in an incline with load when other car is going at 100Km . CVT craziness kicks in. (because you wont be doing this all the time. if this is absolutely important, then go for better car, but again none of its rivals do it good, u will have go for S3, GTI, i30N , or better torquey powerful engine. )
Engine start stop and Brake hold are smooth. there is 0.5 seconds delay if you cant handle it then just disengage, theres a button fot it.
Compared to 10 gen , I feel this is genuinely a better car. (I am sure many here never even test drove the 10 gen )
1.5 L turbo engine is amazing.
Now the cons:
No parking sensors. wth Honda. and I would like traffic sign recognition too,
expect fuel figures close to 8-9L/100 km in city and 7-8 on highways. this thing can fly out of corners, (its not a type R , there is some understeer but brakes and chassis are so confidence inspiring , you wil end up going fast in the corners still ) so you will be flooring it.
lack of sun roof if people think thats a con (I dont) . Lack of powered tail gate (I dont think its a con for me, its easy , door is not heavy)
Honda cheaped out on small stuff which is what driving me nuts like parking sensors. reversing in the dark with tight surroundings is the only condition where you would miss them , for rest its fine, as it has good visibility.
Other con is no Hybrid yet.
Honestly I think it should be a 44.5K car max and its kit is good. so If you think U want to spend 5K extra for that name and badge , go for it. You wont regret.

I think Honda did well with the 10th-gen Civic, as it is quite a popular Civic generation in Australia, but I feel Honda lost its mojo again with the 11th-gen Civic.

Just like everyone else's comments, I agree with what you're saying because this is definitely overpriced.... but a Camry is a dressed up shopping cart... they look better than ever, but drive like a bland uninspired golf cart. A Mazda 3 on the other-hand is great to drive, good quality and also cheaper.
It actually seems like a decent improvement and I like the look, but at $47k, who is buying this? From what I’ve noticed, people who are buying civics are generally younger or looking for a second family car, and those types aren’t going to spend or even have $47k. It also dosnt have the brand recognition of others in the same price range so people will not want to fork out that much. I can see the type r selling but that will be a niche car appealing to enthusiasts and that won’t keep Honda afloat. At this point Hyundai and Kia is more appealing to the everyday person in terms of quality, features and price . I really think this will be a bust.

47k? I got a 07 Honda Civic VTI for 20k (and traded my old car for 6 grand) still runs like a dream. Got it new in 07. Why would I spend 47k?
I have a love for Civics as it was my first ever car but when you see a price of almost 50k in 2021, you expect to see parking sensors everywhere and a 360 camera at the minimum.
The Top of the range Mazda 3 offers so much more for almost 10k less 😯

$48k is a ridiculous price for a mainstream small hatch, just spend a whole $10k less and get a high spec Mazda3 sedan/hatch. And Honda has fixed pricing in Australia, making the potential gap between the Mazda, even larger, tell ‘em they’re dreaming, it’s almost as if Honda does want to become unprofitable in Australia the way they’re going. Not even a $30k entry model like the Mazda to tempt buyers without all the features. You could argue it feels a bit more special than a Corolla but a Mazda3 makes this car entirely redundant at this price point.

The armrest might slide backwards and forwards like some of the accords do which is why its sliding around on you.

It’s nice but absolutely not worth $47k, they should’ve priced it more in line with the top spec Mazda 3 (app. $38k) and they should have at least 1 lower end trim that is cheaper such as a VTI-L or VTI-S
at least at the moment for now only one trim vti-lx maybe lower trim later this year or next year onwards
I’d much rather spend my money on a used mk7.5 VW Golf R or Hyundai i30 N and both of those cars can be had for cheaper than this

Honda Australia is seriously closing itself off to the Australian new car buyer. One feels they don’t have a desire to be in Australia. Honda Australia have stopped importing and selling the Jazz. The new Jazz is available as an e-HEV hybrid version across the ditch in New Zealand with an infotainment system and AC controls are very similar to the new Civic.
The range of Honda cars offered in Australia is limited and no longer enticing to the new car buyer. The CVR was introduced in 2017 with a mild makeover in 2020 which included very minimal cosmetic changes like a new grill, bumpers, a smoked taillight cluster, different wheels and a trapezoidal exhaust tip replacing the round ones, not forgetting a phone charger for the top VTI-L model. Not a great effort by any facelift standard.
The Honda Accord is very nice car, but another large sedan that is hardly on anyone’s shopping list. SUVs and Utes are the rage today. So, the Accord won’t bring any buyers into the showroom. The HRV is also aging with its underpowered and noisy engine, one would have thought they would have used the Civic’s 1.5 turbo unit on the HRV. Lastly the Odyssey, who buys People Movers today?
Now we have the 11th Gen Civic priced at $47,200. One model, one price. Honda has shut its door to the 30k-40K buyer who, until the launch of the 11 Gen Civic, could get themselves into a brand new 10th gen Civic hatch within that price range, including the range topping RS which included parking sensors. These buyers will now walk across the yard to Kia, Hyundai, Mazda or Toyota to spend their hard-earned dollars. You’ve lost out on sales Honda with your Honda Price Promise, there is no Joy in buying from you.
To sell a Civic at $47,200 in 2022 with no parking sensors, not sunroof or option for one, no USB at the back, no ventilated seats in the front, no heated steering wheel, no full digital instrument display and still using USB-A connections is a recipe for disaster . Why is Honda so afraid to step into the future with USB-C and other technologies that the Koreans and other rivals are using. Just brand loyalty will not sell cars.
So which buyer is Honda targeting in Australia with the new Civic?
Whomever they are targeting will not buying it anyway as there are other options for that target group. Honda Australia is totally lost touch with us. They are the the only party losing here. We have other options to choose from
The monthly sales result speaks volume about the pricing strategy.
I predict they will sell bugger all of these, and it’ll speed up the death of Honda in Australia. Many people who want a family hatch don’t have $47k for the fully loaded top spec model. They can afford the $35k mid spec or may be happy with the $25k base model (considering a modern “base model” still has all the required safety features as well as Apple CarPlay, aircon, power windows etc).

Really imoressive. I was impressed with how how nice and tactile the switches and buttons felt. Reminded me of a Lexus. Great feedback. The standard IRS really helps to give the Civic best in segment dynamics in the mainstream models. It also looks great with this new gen. Love the wheels shown here. I wanted to not like the Civic as some of it was carryover but Honda has done a great job.

An impressive review as always Paul. I am surprise to hear this kind of price from Honda. I own a civic hatch '18 VTi-S which has better features including park sensors, lane assist camera etc., than the latest version. It costed me around $25k during that period and comes with 7yr warranty and capped service. That is a great value for money compared to what I am seeing now. I respect Honda for their reliability but not at this price. They did good job at the exterior and interiod design part, but definitely not added $20k worth goodies after all these years. Design and ride quality may be subjective but value for money is something common for every car buyer. Honda did a terrible job in that space.
Vtis has the 1.8 motor not the 1.5turbo, also has no maps, no blind spot monitor, no lane keep assist or active cruise control, doesn’t have active city break system. Has 17 or 16 inch wheels and a horrible material on the seats instead of the leather. I belive your model still has a key barrel too. Capped price service for this civic is also cheaper then yours at dealerships. It is a huge step up over your 25000 dollar civic with many more features . But I do agree it’s not worth nearly 50k.

That was already pretty much the segment leader, and again there’s choice there so you don’t need to get the divisive hatch, get the traditional sedan which sort of looks like the liftback vibe of the Civic.

That ain't a 'New Civic'. Honda's gone down the path of The Emperor With New Clothes -
No one is gonna buy this, the Civic was good at its previous trim selections and pricepoints. The base level was decent and the RS was cool at about $37k.
Regardless, the top trim Mazda 3 (G25 Astina or X20 Astina) just blows this out of the water. The red leather interior (hatch) or white leather interior (sedan) is leagues above this, and in my opinion, competes if not beats the interiors of Mercedes/BMW/Audi. Plus you get a plethora of tech with the top trim Mazda 3 and the design is just gorgeous along with their lineup of paint selections (subjective, I know).
You can even add a Kuroi bodykit to the G25 Astina hatch, which makes it look even more sporty and adds some depth. And even then, it is cheaper than this 2022 Civic.
The design of this 2022 Civic is actually quite nice imo, and if they stuck with this but had a variety of trims at cheaper pricepoints, it would do well and compete with Toyota and Mazda as usual.

Honda was penned as Japan’s BMW back then, with a bit of upmarket feel and great driving dynamics. That title squarely goes to Mazda today.

An i30n sedan is not much more yet offers a whole different level of performance and arguably better tech. Well done Honda, keep this sort of stuff up and your woeful sales will turn into non existent sales.

I'm a big fan of Civic but this one I think not good enough I thought it's going to be 7 speed automatic gearbox and plus $50,000 its way to much
Within the first month of ownership the entire engine cover came off on the freeway. Then another piece came off 1 month later. Both fixed at dealership on separate occasions. The air flow lighting has never worked or lit up. I thought that was just the way it was. I was wrong. Taking that to get fixed. Dashboard makes cracking noises when going over bumps. Electric seats make creaking noises when moving. Audio cuts in and out constantly and navigation screen gets blurry and freezes. Averaging 27mpg constantly no matter how I drive.
I just don’t understand what’s going on. I have a 2003 Honda Civic with 400,000 miles. I’ve never had issues with that car like this 2022 touring. Got the video and proof

I lament the lack of decently specified manual sedans in this country. When the time comes to replace my 2011 Civic VTi-L, the nearest alternative looks like a WRX. Honda deserves to do better in Australia but really doesn't help themselves with high prices and a lack of choice.

Currently the EX trim (which is the top trim in Japan) sells for 3539800 yen which is AUD 43703. After all it might not be that expensive but with this price we certainly have a lot of choices

While the review was standard as always cant say the same thing about his opinion though. The value proposition simply isn't there since there's nothing unique about it whatsoy. If the car was $10k cheaper then yes it's great value but the market has much better alternatives these days for less money. Or you can also get a second hand car with much higher specs. The price is simply outrageous and on top that Honda is now selling cars based on a fixed price model. So good luck with sale figure.
That’s the thing. How does this compete with the Mazda3? It is positioned as the same kind of car, beloved Japanese marque making a premium and fun to drive small car, under a famous nameplate, bit pricier than before but feels more expensive than it is. This just takes the pricing to a whole new level but I can’t see it as being significantly better than the 2.5L sedan. It’s a shame they had to price it like this, they could’ve garnered a ton of sales for $10k less vs this is dead on arrival. They also should’ve kept the VTI-S models around to compete against Mazda3 Pure/Evolve

I have to say its totally not worth it. I was shocked when you showed the key, only 2 buttons? Are we back in the 90s? Then, no digital dashboard like the American Civic? No parking sensors? and that rear camera, I don't think it's a good resolution at all, it seams as grainy as my 10th gen Civic Touring. Also, what the hell Honda has in their minds to not put USB outlets in the back, you can clearly see they've reserved space for it down the rear air vents, and the American Civics do have that.
Come on Honda, it's almost 2022, we need our USB outlets.

Certainly a pro review. You need to be watching lots of reviews to see what is missing here:
Parking sensors - listed on the review, no issues there. Glaring in it being not on the car though.
Power tailgate - nothing said. At 47K, you'd need to have one. No mention of it.
Spare tyre - nothing said. Do you even get tyre goop?
Charging pad being able to be turned off - why is this even a thing? You forget to turn it on and you arrive with low battery...designers who are here, please enlighten me.
The rattles on the centre console are horrible when you looked at build quality. Why not mention it there. We all heard it.
No mention of the piddling pete on the rear windshield that looks as though a nudist got caught in a snowstorm. That really looks misplaced, especially when it could've been closer to the antenna.
All in all, it can't compete with the Cerato, i30, Mazda3 or Corolla. Cerato has better power/weight, i30 has digital dash, Mazda3 has a better engine, Corolla has its hybrid system.
I30 is more powerful as well.

You'd be crazy not to consider a base model Tesla 3 against that price, when factoring in running costs and resale value, if you do any kind of decent KMs.
That's a tough sell. Base Model 3 drive away price is still just over 65k vs 47k for the Honda. Personally the Tesla's my preferred buy but extra 20k for sub 500km range (in Aus too) you'll be relying heavily on what you can get for resale. Also, maintenance is cheap but insurance and repair not so much. I'd say it out-competes the shit out of every og luxury car within it's price bracket through to about double.

@@lamborghini0610 Look resale on Teslas can be pretty insane so you might be able to get a win there. Top spec Camry is about 4.5k more than the Honda (always hard to pin down exact price depends on state and dealer etc) and that's only around 5k out of reach for Tesla's cost after savings estimate (including 3k Victorian ZEV bonus and however they calculate petrol) but the Camry depreciation is WAY higher than the Tesla since the base model is about 35k new. Biggest factor definitely has to be resale, I wouldn't wanna be knocking the Tesla around or running it into the ground.
A lot of people are really bias against them so I'll just say it again, I'd definitely prefer the Tesla although base model 3 kind of sucks a bit. I'd say it's a hard sell spending an extra 15-20k on a new car for the proposition of saving money, and I've definitely seen horror stories for price hiked Tesla maintenance and repair not covered under warranty which would obliterate any of the earlier discussion but if you treat it like the (theoretically) depreciating asset it is I guess that's just part of the financial risk.

If you have solar roof, that is another factor as you can recharge for opportunity feed in. The EV tax (if in "progressive Victoria" lol) then becomes greatest running cost.
The other thing is if you rely on finance then it's hard to beat the Tesla 2.99% effective interest - it's less than half what I paid on my current car - a Subaru Outback 2011, still running. Or more like a third. (yes, I know I was dumb).
RWD model 3 has some great features such as never needing to worry about (LFP) battery, even though max range is less than the LR then you'll effectively have more of a similar range as the LR shouldn't be 100%ed all the time.
(Edit: at 80% charge the LR will still be somewhat ahead, but yeah it's a great equaliser from a certain point of view. Hard to argue with AWD handling and performance though).
@@jasonlast7091 another thing that will affect resale values is fuel prices. If we suddenly see a true spike then I believe Tesla will struggle to satisfy demand for their cars.
The model 3 is significantly more efficient than any other EV on the market, just look at battery capacity vs range - so they should by all indications retain their resale value far, far better than say a Nissan Leaf.
It's nice but at almost 50k, I'd rather go with the premium Germans - the BMW 1 Series, Audi A3, Mercedes A-Class, all of which have far superior build quality and driving dynamics. If this Civic was priced between 30 - 35k, it would be a great option but unfortunately that's not the case
Are you crazy 30k is too cheap for this Civic, 36 - 43k is the sweet spot.
And if you wanted great build quality and driving dynamics without the long term reliability issues Euro cars have over Japanese ones, you’d be hard pressed to find a better option than paying $10k less and getting into the Mazda3

Previous 2012 Civic VTis owner, now a current 1yo Mazda 3 owner. I would consider the Mazda the current class leader, hence why I bought it I was able to negotiate a price slightly on the Mazda. The Honda is no chance of negotiating a deal. A G25 Astina is at this price point, if not cheaper. It has vision technology, sliding sunroof and a 2.5 NA motor with a standard torque converter. I just cant see how Honda can charge this much when there are much better cars out there. Might be a good car but at this price point it doesnt deserve to be a sales success.
If this was $10k cheaper it would be competitive with a high end Mazda3. This kind of pricing is ridiculous. As you said no room to negotiate and there is a smaller dealership presence (Honda is basically dying here) compared to Mazda where Australia is one of its strongest markets. It’s almost as if Honda is taking the piss and wanting to be shown out of Australia due to poor demand. Not to mention even though it’s no price leader, the Mazda3 range has a well equipped base model with LED lights, adaptive cruise, all the safety tech, head up display, as standard at $30k. Honda isn’t even offering a range of variants to boost sales - with the Mazda there’s 6 grades (I think 8 now), with 3 different engines, 2 transmissions and the option of sedan or hatch. Pretty much providing an option for everyone. This one is a take it or leave it proposition.
I reall don't understand the pricing between different countries. The civic is 50K AU in Thailand where I live and that is actually cheaper than a top spec 2.0 mazda 3 - we don't get the 2.5. And the 10th gen civic was about the same price, but I read that was much cheaper in Australia.
I own a Honda euro wagon , which has been awesome. But now I’m sick of Honda putting very boring new models over the last decade or so. I really don’t want to like this car, but I do. It doesn’t do everything perfect but it does most things really well. Bugger!!!

2 years later and the price is not that far from the cars it's competing with. The Golf R-Line is now 48k, the Mazda 3 G25 GT is 46k, Cupra Leon V is 48k (has a more powerfull and torque engine).
Personally if I had about $50k to spend on a car I'd be tossing up between the Focus ST and i30N. Have some fun before going EV, certainly wouldn't be buying an overpriced, CVT equipped Civic from a company that I can't see being around too much longer with the prices they're now charging. I'd imagine the Type-R has to be around $70k? 😆
47k is si price, if it has more power 10at or dct with lsd, might worth 50k. But for normal civic I don’t think they will sell many, it looks nice tho.

Forget the boring Thai-made Civic sedan but Civic 5 door streamline coupe is fast and economical rather than a hatchback; VTiLX is the sole premium Gran Tourer instead of the ordinary family car focuses on sport and economy which powers with only 1.5 L4 turbo intercooler goes best with 94 ron e10 unleaded as clean fuel; while Civics got Hybrid and a Type R in future we want to see more Civics 1.5 turbo comes with entry VTiL and sporty VTiR instead of VTiS and RS respectively.

Get a used type R or pre-owned lexus or Merc or anything else, Euro tech is already years ahead of most Japanese. Seriously, there is no noticeable difference in engine and numbers from the original 10th gen which I owned since 2016 and now gone, replaced it with a Merc GLA. The civic is still CVT with no manual option, priced similar to the previous gen Accord which is now gone, the Jazz is gone.
The Mazda G25 GT is nearly 10k cheaper and has more power, torque and has similar tech and comforts.... and the Honda fixed price scheme is a loser in Australia, we love to haggle. But as there is no other trims or levels, the Civic name is lost.
Not sold on this review. The point of the review is, is it worth 47.5k? And let's be honest, it isn't. In this price point you would think the car would come with a full LCD dash cluster, rear charging ports, more power, parking sensors and full 360 cameras, heads up display, sports lip kit and spoiler etc...
I got my 10th generation civic from 2016. Still looks better than this car ! It’s really popular model you can see it on road everywhere. Seriously for latest 2022 upgrade it missing parking sensors, blind spot camera, smaller engine, 20k and more expensive? So you would still buy it ? Please given honest verdict reviews
This civic already has problems stacking up. Brake pedal malfunction off showroom floor. Moisture build up in new LED headlight units…reliability slipping. Buyer beware
Wouldn’t buy one. Honda is trying to justify the high price point by saying it has all the bells and whistles. Rubbish! No parking sensors, no 360 camera and no usbs in the back. Not to mention the ridiculous agency model Honda is using now. Farewell Honda Australia. Holden’s demise was expected and yours will be next.
Where is the base model? Why no manual? Why no full size spare? After all, this is Australia.
Needs a plug in hybrid version. Then I would get this. The hybrid is close. But Mazda MX-30 will be out next year as a plug in hybrid with 200 lb-ft of torque.
This doesn't even rival the corolla or i30. They're asking for too much with outdated and lack of technology. Still using incandescences and no parking sensors or 360 degree camera at $47k? In addition, servicing prices aren't capped like other competitors and no longer doing negotiations. Disappointing, Honda has lost its touch in the Australian market.
