    I used this Behr DeckOver several years ago. Did the prep work, let it dry for 3-4 days!! Making sure it was REALLY dry and it painted on beautifully. The deck was in bad shape and ended up looking like a nice composite deck. Loved it! After several years and the railing going bad, we decided it finally needed to be completely replaced with a new deck (20+ years old), However, with the sky rocketing prices of wood and other building materials, we just couldn't afford to replace it. Just prepped again and covering it with DeckOver again. Will let it dry for at least 3-4 days again. Excited to have a new looking deck again. Other negative comments are probably from people who didn't take the time to prep and let dry FULLY!!

      I do agree that especially with the price of wood currently that DeckOver is a great option to give you another few years before you replace the deck.. lets see if wood ever drops to where it was before

    Last week, I just painted my 20 year old deck with Behr solid-stain. Looks pretty good. (From a distance). What a miserable job! I called for estimates and they were over $3000 for a 200 sq.ft deck. Nope! Be proud! You guys did good!

    The white spots are known as "blushing". It is moisture trapped within or beneath your finish. A finish works by reducing the amount of moisture taken on while allowing moisture that does get in to escape, but if it is applied too heavily too quickly or if it gets wet before it is completely cured, moisture can become trapped. The solution is simply a fine misting of solvent as from an aerosol can to reactivate the finish and let the moisture out, but I'm afraid I can't tell you which solvent or if there are other steps to the process as this is an acrylic finish and I have no experience with acrylic. I use a product called "No Blush" made by Mohawk on lacquer finishes. I can't say what it would do on this. But the proper solvent will do it, I guarantee. If your solvent doesn't come in an aerosol, your local box hardware store sells aerosol containers you can fill yourself. I think they are called 'Prevail'? Mohawk sells them as well.
    Thanks for the video. I was just looking to see exactly what this product was intended for before doing my deck and your video came up first. It looks as if the negative experiences may all be for the same reason. They probably just put a whole different finish over top of it. That works too, but it sure does take a long time. Even longer if you're doing it right 😉

    The white might have happened if stripper was used to remove old stain. If some stripper remained you could see white stains. Just one possibility.

    Thanks man! I'm actually doing my deck and leave in NJ. I have been battling the thunderstorms that we have been receiving. I did my research on Behr product. Alot of misleading information. Some information is that Behr is being sued and that people's Deck got ruined. And the other side of the coin people likes the "Advance Deck Over Smooth". Quick question did you use "Behr Deck Over" or "Advance Behr DeckOver"? I'm actually using Advance BehrDeckOver" and I have been noticing on the floor that muddy stains ( I think are my kids running around with my dog on the deck) but it doesnt go away when it rains (which is a concern). @@Isitworthitreviews I would guess that it has something to do with the concentration of dawn on certain areas coupled with the variation in D.O. drying faster/slower in different areas with more/less sunlight. The slower it dries in some areas the greater the likelihood it pulled Dawn residue from the wood.

    • @Isitworthitreviews

    Maybe the white spots are from where you tried the stain remover? I don’t know if you only tried those spots with the stain remover and returned the product before applying to the rest of the deck. I remember in the first video that you observed how the stain remover dripped on the board underneath and left a chalky white look. Of course my theory only applies if you tried the stain remover on the whole deck.

    • @Isitworthitreviews

      I did try the stain remover on the whole deck. But, interestingly we don't see the white on the whole deck. That is a really good theory though. Perhaps the white is where there was a higher concentration of stain remover.

  • @terryharleyrides6109

    Properly cleaning and drying afterwards is absolutely everything. Then apply two coats, allowing each coat to dry properly and you shouldn’t have any issues or problems period.
    Prep work and properly cleaning and allowing the wood to dry is extremely important,....as it should be.

    • @Isitworthitreviews

      I definitely followed the instructions the best we could.. as mentioned we could not completely strip the old deckover so in some areas we coated over pre existing deckover.. We cleaned it, let it dry for and then put 2 coats (brushed on).

  • @theJonnymac
    @theJonnymac 2 года назад +1

    i followed the instructions and best practices and about a year later any thing that touches the deck like a chair bottom or table bottom causes small flaking. I wouldn’t recommend this product unless your deck is so far gone that you are just trying to get another season or two out if it.

    • @Isitworthitreviews
      @Isitworthitreviews  2 года назад +1

      I am not having that issue and it has been over 2 years now for me. There is some flaking in some areas though so I certainly would not say it is perfect.

      Hey Steve,
      I did use their cleaner product first which was a very bad experience, I did not recommend that at all (you can check out my initial review video here: ruclips.net/video/aG0brpkYJRM/видео.html)..
      I also did do two coats since that was the direction from BEHR. I brush applied (not roller) because that allowed me to get completely around the boards (again see original video)..
      The deck looks not too different now than it did after one year.. I am thinking of possibly doing a 2 year follow-up.. but if you watched the video above the deck essentially looks the same.

I was getting ready to start doing the railings first and thought I would look on RUclips to see if anyone showed how to paint the railings. Give it 5 years... I used deckover 5 years ago and now have been on my hands and knees for the last couple of months trying to remove this GARBAGE. I tried several paint strippers, nothing worked. Finally I just took a knife and started lifting and peeling the paint in full sun or just after it rained - both the sun and the rain helped soften the paint and it seemed to come off easier. Then I purchased an orbital sander to take off the rest. It's been an absolute nightmare getting back to the natural wood surface. Some boards were rotted out because of trapped moisture. I definitely learned my lesson, and wouldn't recommend this product to my worst enemy. It will destroy your deck... And either cost you a ton of money to replace OR you're going to have to put in an unwarranted amount of sweat equity in to clean it off yourself. Don't make the same mistake I did!! Do yourself a favour... Purchase a natural oil-based product instead.

      I'd have to agree with you for the most part. I would prefer Trex or some other composite material. But, I think Deckover provides that no splinter barrier for those that cant afford to go full composite. With that said, I agree that the product is a complete pain to remove.
