Many years ago, my therapist, working with me on anxiety and avoidance, taught me that not taking action was in fact an action itself. She had me write a decision matrix, say, for making a phone call that I was dreading: what's the best and worst things that can happen if I make the call, and what's the best and worst things if I don't make the call. Then if I decide I can take the worst of not calling, I can decide not to call and not spend days of anxiety telling myself I'll make it in an hour, in another hour, tomorrow. It has been a helpful way of looking at avoidance procrastination for me!
The thing that makes me not procrastinate is inviting someone over. I am amazed what I can get done if I know that I am going to have company. Say if I invite someone over in 2 days, for my example. I start breaking things down in chunks.
Love this! Thank you both for your individual perspectives and for making procrastinating normal human behavior not a character flaw. Great insights and tips!! Time to just get started on those TAXES and get them done already 😉✌️
Thanks, Gayle and Ed. This is one of those perennially useful topics, like handling paper or impulse shopping. Listening to the YT video I sorted out a bag of laundry and went out to wash it. Thanks!
What a fabulous topic to discuss. I sincerely believe 20 percent of the pop is waaaayyy too low. I am a lifelong procrastinator so these tips are great, thanks you two!
I started decluttering yesterday and ended up cleaning instead. I spent much too long washing dolls and their clothes and will probably have to fight with myself to not waste more time because a few of the clothes need mending.
Your videos are so relatable and entertaining. You have helped me get unstuck and laugh at myself. It can feel so serious sometimes and it isn't rocket science 😂 thank you ❤❤
procrastinating can have a benefit. it can give me time to rethink a better way to handle a project. That "rethinking" can take time. For example, i have procrastinated painting my deck. But during that procrastination time, i have already changed my mind on what color is to paint it. Also, procrastination is a benefit before buying things. Gives me time to rethink, before i spend the money.
We used some info from a previous show on the topic and added new ideas, experts and suggestions to it. Nothing completely new under the sun, and all that…
Ahhh, procrastination. The story of my life. Thanks for sharing : )

Nothing like the possibility of public exposure to get one rolling! It’s a good technique to harness!
Thank you, I have always found your videos very helpful. :)
Love the idea of doing the first step. Sometimes I make a list of little first steps. That really helps! 🥰

Saved to watch later! (I thought you would appreciate the irony)
Whoa LOL!!

I've decided to start exercising so i dusted off my elliptical machine. Hopefully I'll take another step tomorrow.
Go for it!!

That is not procrastinating, that is planning.
That is very much an ADHD thing- to feel the urgency of a task! 😊
Which store?
It's probably just me, but this video almost seems like I've heard parts of it before. Couldn't help but wonder if it's possibly an older video?
