This was a very useful side-by-side comparison. I can't put my finger on why, but the 202 draws me in, every time. I know it has less range, but within the range it does have, the 202 handles aliasing better. It's more pleasing to my ear. The 404 is a better and more functional machine overall, but the 202 has a character that's difficult to replicate. It's also less "jumpy" when turning to dial in a pitch. The only interesting thing i noticed on the 404 is when you pitched it all the way up, the drums REALLY snapped. Makes me think that the SP's could be useful as a drum sampler too..using the old sample at 45rpm and pitch down to 33. Or vice versa...in any case, having both of these is a big plus for your studio and workflow. Thanks for taking the time to put this together. 👊👊👊
@eddieleonard6925 bro thanks for this detailed review on the sampler effect! Yeah, the 202’s sound is so warm and has a great texture to it. Regarding the jumpiness on the 404 pitch, that can be reduced by holding “shift” while moving the control dial; it’s a good coarse-fine adjustment function on the effect. I’m gonna keep experimenting with this workflow/setup in order to leverage the best aspects of each sampler.
