Two of the best minds on YT! Thank you for the convo. It reminds me of a quote from Orson Welles where he said “The only thing I fear is art with no limitations.” As awesome as all the tech we have at our disposal is, it’s sometimes the limitations that drive creativity not the lack thereof.

I predicted on Midnight’s Edge live streams and video editorial comments years ago - pre-pandemic years ago - that the studios would ditch actors ASAP. Yes, an A-list can draw a public but they are also very expensive, fickle, and tend to age, not to say get sick, pass away etc. I made two specific predictions before Chat GPT was a thing and A.I. was on everyone’s lips all the time.
Prediction one: The studios will have air-gapped digital sweatshops in India taking care of all digital post-production.
Prediction two: We will see before the end of this decade CGI human beings so faithfully represented that they will be indistinguishable from real actors. I also predict that the first time this happens, the movie will sneak the character into a movie to gauge if people notice that the person portrayed is CGI.
As 2024 is now upon us there are six years left for my prediction to come true. I maintain high confidence. As a reference point, the CGI version of Grand Moff Tarkin in Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, was released in December 2016. That’s seven years ago. We have also seen the advancements in de-aging in many films, most noteworthy of late being Indy V.
Six more years to create a digital human on screen indistinguishable from the real thing? Yes, definitely.
The studios may yet want to cast some actors in order to own their digital likenesses. I think we’ll see a blend of real actors and completely new CGI creations. Voice-over work will no longer be necessary either. A studio may opt for it to get the A-list actor’s public pull-factor but it will not be necessary.
Imagine if you will in the near future a full spectrum of superheroes from the comics. Digital representations which never age, never die, never get injured. Don’t cost anything once created.
Looking at the advancements in video game technology and the current iteration of CryEngine (v6) there will no longer be a need for set pieces or moving a studio production to real-world locations. All you need to do is send up drones to capture 8K, why not 12K, 360 degree, 3D recordings of various real-world locations. Mooer’s Law and the Zipf Principle will continue to apply. As it get’s better it gets cheaper and easier.
The day of the celebrity is over. The A-list actors are going to age out. Hollywood gave them a good 100 years but dusk has arrived. If you want to see real people in movies you will be watching rom-coms, dramas and p*rn (which is being surpassed by both professional and non-professional livestream performances). As a consequence I also predict an upswing in stage performances.
Final words: I have more faith in the future of the writer than the actors and many other careers in the industry. I would rather be a writer in 2023 than anything else in the industry.

It's good to have a conversation that includes Script Doctor and not have him be continually interrupted by Connors.✌🏾🎅🏼
