    Does this extension of the problem sound reasonable to fellow people?.... Once you solve for minimum speed at theta=180, you could use that as a (theta, omega) point for an initial condition to integrate the "equation holster" and obtain for omega as a function of theta which could be used to express force of tension in terms of theta rather than omega which is more difficult to physically measure. The only part I am skeptical of is equating the integrate tangential acceleration into linear vs. angular velocity properly.
