I was driving to a girl's house to pick her up for our 2nd (and what we both figured, last) date. Funny thing happened, though. We exchanged vulnerabilities, and we began talking. Talked for hours. I wound up proposing to her that night. She accepted. Not because we were "in love," but because it simply felt right. This December will be our 40th anniversary, and talking with her is better than just about anything. Yeah, this scene makes me lose it every time.
I absolutely love the beginning of this scene. The focus in Danny's eyes on her while the secret service checks his apartment is so intense. Meanwhile she's wavering. She wants him but she's scared to take the next step. Just beautiful acting in the scene. Makes me melt everytime. 😊😍
This is such a well-written scene. Two intelligent, caring, and wise people who are and have been crazy about each other. "I want us to talk because I like the sound of your voice." Oof, what a line!
Only a true West Wing fan will understand the magnitude of calling this one of my very favorite scenes in all 7 seasons …. it’s a masterpiece among masterpieces.
Man, I can never get over the chemistry that these two actors have. He spent the whole series pursuing her, subtly and slowly because he didn't want to spook her. Then she finally feels comfortable enough to let him in even a little bit and he uses that to help her grow as a person so that she can finally be comfortable with her love for him.
"You can be scared, that's okay. But you're not gonna walk away from me because you're scared. I'm not that scary." 3 sentences, and that sums up so perfectly the battle inside us when we meet someone with the power to change us. Sooo easy to forget that we're being changed for the better.
This scene is pure poetry. It's like a great musical duet or pas de deux. CJ is enormously smart and capable - used to dealing with gigantic, complex problems in her work - yet simple, honest communication with her partner frightens her. Danny's loving, patient way with her, with a touch of humor, is the perfect foil for her anxiety, and they come together beautifully at the end. I think they could easily have spun off a series featuring the further adventures of CJ and Danny. Instead, I'll just imagine them together still, perfectly happy and in love...
My dad had known my mother for a few years. Then according to her, one day he decided to ask her out. He called her. She refused the first day that he suggested as she had a sports occasion to attend. The second day he suggested as she had another prior arrangement. Sensing that my dad was beginning to lose confidence, she explained that as captain of her team, her calendar was full till the next Monday. They went out that Monday, and again the Tuesday and Wednesday. By the weekend, they knew that they would be married. They were friends for over 60 years and married for over 50 of them. My mother tells me this story about once a month now. Dad died 14 years ago next July.
CJ Cregg is one of my all time favorite characters and to see her end up with this man, who is obviously the best guy on the planet, just pushed me over the edge; it had me crying like a baby! The actors, the characters, the scene, everything is just pure perfection!
I've always appreciated his talent as an actor, but never saw any romantic appeal in Timothy Busfield - until this episode of The West Wing. Wow. A girl should be so lucky, to find such a caring soul, with a good sense of humor :-) I sure wouldn't mind having a Danny Concannon in my life.
I think this is one of my favourite scenes in the whole series. I know there were bigger and more powerful scenes, but something about this one just grabs me somewhere.
I have a massive crush on Alison Janney, and CJ is the best female character ever on TV ever. Loved this relationship throughout the show. Timothy Busfield is a consummate actor and the chemistry between the two was always electric. They were always in love and wonderfully they finally got it on!

"I want us to talk because I like the sound of your voice". That has got to be the most romantic thing I've ever heard. I cry everytime I hear it
The character of Danny Concanon always elevated every scene he was present.

Danny Concannon still makes me swoon 4 years later.

I think every woman with a pulse fell even more in love with Danny during this scene. His words, the expressions on his face.... shew.

I miss this series more than I can express... It is still one of the best written shows ever made (in my opinion).

The patience he had with her is just so sweet. Love love love this couple.
