Unemployment is an odd concept in an economy where for so many folks it’s necessary to work multiple jobs just to get by. Loose one and you’re counted as employed but suddenly don’t have enough money to live.
The economy is grappling with uncertainties, global fluctuations, and pandemic aftermath, causing instability. Rising inflation, sluggish growth, and trade disruptions need urgent attention from all sectors to restore stability and stimulate growth.
Things are strange right now. The US dollar is becoming less valuable because of inflation, but it's getting stronger compared to other currencies and things like gold and property. People are turning to the dollar because they think it's safer. I'm worried about my retirement savings of about $420,000 losing value because of high inflation. Where else can we keep our money?
Due to my demanding job, I lack the time to thoroughly assess my investments and analyze individual stocks. Consequently, for the past seven years, I have enlisted the services of a fiduciary who actively manages my portfolio to adapt to the current market conditions. This strategy has allowed me to navigate the financial landscape successfully, making informed decisions on when to buy and sell. Perhaps you should consider a similar approach.
this is definitely considerable! think you could suggest any professional/advisors i can get on the phone with? i'm in dire need of proper portfolio allocation
Certainly, there are a handful of experts in the field. I've experimented with a few over the past years, but I've stuck with ‘’Melissa Terri Swayne” for about five years now, and her performance has been consistently impressive. She’s quite known in her field, look-her up.
Hi Michael and Lizy!!! Guess what?! I’m officially part of the statistics! I was terminated from my job that I’ve been working for SEVEN years. They fired 90 people. I worked my ass off for this company - created and sustained an entire department. No one is exempt when the company can’t make money. No warning. No attempt at repurposing me or asking me to take a cut in pay - just called me up and told me I’m out. Just like garbage. I’ve got a positive attitude about it. I’m glad I’m off the sinking ship. They did me a favor.
I work in a really big o&g company that makes a lot of profit every quarter and still they are removing from 20 to 50% workforce, most in manager positions, even my manager position got removed. I wish you all the best!
Yup. It happened to me. I was younger then and took it hard. Took it personally and spent too much of my precious time wondering what else I could have done. Don't waste your time. Like I did. 👍
1000 - rule number one about a job - bosses dont care. you did a good job. you can do it again. can you open your own or get some ownership in a start up?
That’s not it, giving them guns and uniforms is way scary, if you’ve noticed lately Nancy and Kammie want to fast track their citizenship. They are delusional and the agents of their own and our demise.
Ghost jobs. Sometimes companies post jobs to make them look like they're doing well and growing but they're not. They can keep those employees on the back burner for when they need them. Also I manage a restaurant as a manager and I can see that we are clearly making less money. My servers are loosing out by either having shifts cut or by not making as much when they're here. It sucks.
I think the retirement crisis will get even worse. A lot of people can’t save because of low paying jobs, inflation, and insane rental rates. And now that home ownership is out of reach for middle class Americans, they won’t have a house to retire with either.
Things are a bit strange right now. Inflation is making the dollar weaker for buying things like basic needs, but it's getting stronger against other stuff. So, stuff like stocks, houses and precious metals aren't doing so great because folks are putting their money into banks for safety but I'm worried about my retirement savings losing value fast.
If you are in cross roads or need sincere advice on the best moves to take now its best you seek an independent advisor who knows about the financial markets. It's better to hire a skilled financial planner especially if you're not one yourself. I hired one after my retirement pension took a hit in April due to the crash.
I've stuck with the popularly ‘’Jessica Lee Horst” for about five years now, and her performance has been consistently impressive. She’s quite known in her field, look her up.

@1968CudaGuy 100% not true. The average wage increase in 2023 was 4.6% and in 2024 it's 4%, so wages are not going down. The inflation rate last year was 4.1%, so wages kept pace.
My air conditioner was out for 12 days. My electric bill was still around $750.😮 I’m starting to hang my clothes on a line at night . I wash my clothes after 9 pm, hang my clothes on a couple lines in my house and in the morning, I throw them in the dryer for just a couple of minutes. It has made a decrease in my bill.
$750? I don’t get that. My electric bill is usually between $50 and $80. I have central air, I do normal laundry, how can your bill be possibly $750??? do you have an electric car or something?
@@Maynardd I have neighbors in that range. They have a hot tub, central air, 10+ year old appliances, and are pretty inefficient with their usage. I have a bigger house with central air, an electric car, and spend less than half.

I am of the boomer generation with pension, paid for house and high SS … but feeling very bad for the younger generations that is going to be impacted by changing position of the US - loss of manufacturing, rise of China, wasteful wars, absurd levels of immigration, threat to dollar as reserve … aside from agriculture, we make nothing and are living on the fumes of the glory days - it will hit the fan
Me too---no debts, pension, highest SS (taken at 70), rental, interest, and investment income. Enough to "get by"-but we are living below our means, and (at 74 and 86) STILL investing excess funds into Vanguard funds. You never know whether you need your money one day for a damn nursing home! 😞
What a gorgeous view. Pretty wife too. Our country is f@@ked up and getting worse. All electric wilp be a nightmare. My neighborhood can't keep the power on now because they are building house after houae. How is the electric grid going to keep up when everything is electric? A battery for a electric car is over $10,000. It's crazy.
Michael, this has been going on for a very long time. Real wages (adjusted for inflation) peaked for most wage earners in 1973, and have been declining ever since. For household income, this was partially offset by women entering the workforce, but the trend has been down for decades. Now we are witnessing wages being cut in nominal terms, not even taking into account the inflation rates! I recall speaking to a vendor who worked in the beverage industry back in 1994 who informed me that he had been making $65,000 a year before being laid off. 30 years later, most vendors today don't make this amount. If wages had kept up with inflation, a $65,000 salary would be equal to around $130,000 today. There is a breaking point in all of this and we are fast approaching it.
Someone said that it's time to be concerned when you start to see individuals shoplifting groceries rather than big-screen televisions, and i agree.it's a sign that things are getting tough. Prices are going up fast, but the government isn't telling us the truth. If they did, interest rates would be super high. Even with the market doing poorly, some people are still making a lot of money - over $365,000! I wish I could do that.
Very possible! Particularly in this weak market. There are several opportunities to generate excellent returns, but such intricate transactions can only be carried out by seasoned market professionals.
I completely agree! I've made over $1.7 million in three years by following a coach's advice. At first, I was hesitant and watched from the sidelines, trying to figure out when to start. Then my wife recommended a coach, and I decided to give it a try. I'm glad I did!

As a former salaried worker, I can tell you you basically sell yourself into slavery. They expect 60+ hours out of you but pay only 40. I applaud this new law for my friends still in those positions.
Wow, the comments here. Whew!! Anyway, I’m sure if you could have found a comparable job, offering better working conditions you would have taken it. I worked seven years in a “toxic” work environment. I wanted to quit so badly, and was consistently was tasked with “special projects,” on top of my regular work. Cannot say no to a Supervisor. I came down with Shingles it was so bad. After that my health was affected. Eventually the pain became so overwhelming I had to leave. Before that happened, my husband and I scaled back and paid off many things. We learned to live on ONE income so it wouldn’t be such a shock to be without my income. We came out of that situation and when we had more money we stashed it away. Learn the LESSON when going through hard times.
Try the service sector in Texas. I work 45-50 hours as bartender for $2.13 an hour. Sure get decent tips but the management keeps wanting more. Everything is up in cost to live and wages are not going up. Employers are laying off/firing and hiring back at lower wages. This is why we are seeing people holding multiple jobs. Everyone is struggling, why? Because we are all supporting a massive government. And government isn't cheap. Ours in particular, has grown to such a massive size and consumes so much resources while producing nothing that it is like a massive cancer growing out of control. It has buried itself into every aspect of our everyday lives and foots us the bill in the form of more inflation, more taxes/fines/penalties/fees on everything. Government was originally small and was only was granted very limited and few powers. Unfortunately today, every day it gives itself more powers while sucking every last drop of blood out of its citizens that it can without killing them. It cares only about itself and none about the constituents it was designed to protect and serve. We have let the monster out of it's cage and there's no putting it back.
local police and teachers are draining all the money. they are paying cops $150,000 a year in towns that are shrinking without any real crime, it is a scam for them to make money. corrupt local politicians hire these cops and likely get illegal bribe money to hire them
The higher cost of living and inflation is largely due to two factors, government spending and the high cost of energy (diesel). everything is delivered by truck. The cost of producing food on the farm and ranch is heavily dependent of the price of diesel. The increase in the price of a gallon of diesel has to be passed on to the customer, the customers need a pay raise to buy their essentials. Inflation. Thank you Joe Biden. The grid does not have the copper capacity to generate or carry the necessary amount of electricity to power homes and businesses. DON"T VOTE FOR ANY POLITICIAN WHO HAS NO BUSINESS EXPERIENCE. If they can't run a company, they can't run a country.

People are facing a tough retirement. and it's even harder for workers to save due to low-paying jobs, inflation, and high rents. Now, middle-class Americans find it tough to own a home too, leaving them without a place to retire in.
The increasing prices have impacted my plan to retire at 62, work part-time, and save for the future. I'm concerned about whether those who navigated the 2008 financial crisis had an easier time than I am currently experiencing. The combination of stock market volatility and a decrease in income is causing anxiety about whether I'll have sufficient funds for retirement.

How to pay less to cool your home: 1. Insulate the hell out of your trailer. Most trailers use cardboard for insulation, which is not only not good insulation, it's flammable as hell. Pry the thin fake wood panels off carefully, replace it all with polyiso, rock wool (on a stricter budget) or fiberglass (if you're poor), replace the wood paneling. Yes, it's a lot of work. Get the highest efficiency window air conditioner you can find. Use 2 to 3 sheets tacked to the ceiling 1 inch apart reaching to each wall and the floor to wall off a small area of the trailer (no more than 10 feet, so you have enough room for your bed and maybe a small table). Use a roll of insulation tape from the hardware store to get a good seal on your door. Have fans that you can switch to quickly if it gets cooler at night. For about $5000 you can set up a solar system to power your home, if you want to pay once rather than monthly. 21 100 watt panels, and a solar generator with 6 kwh capacity is what you get for that price. If you go this route, be prepared to ration power on cloudy days.

In my city in Sarasota Florida, there are unskilled workers being hired for $110,000 per year and the hiring frenzy continues as a result of the city manager finding new ways to rejigger the government in order to hire and expand his job.
It's not just younger workers, where my husband is employed the Americans are getting layed off and the company replaces them with H1B Hispanic's .

Last month in Tampa, my best friend's electric bill for her 2 bedroom condo was $650.00. I don't know how people are surviving in this economic climate.
Wow, I used to pay $100 in 2020 in Deerfieldbeach florida

My bill here in Connecticut went up $48 per month so we can pay for EV stations being built 🤷🏽♂️ I don’t own an EV so wtf am i paying for this 🤬
I'm here to...fn sucks united illuminating
I pay a special extra fee for electricity because I don’t have solar panels. 😵💫
They can decide what's good for you. It's called socialism or communism at it's extreme when you resist.
But your state still votes for the Democrats
nonsense
Ended up getting a 6% raise this year… still felt like a slap in the face. 🤦♂️
Ain't funny but you beat inflation of 3%. 😢
@@mejiado They’re forgetting about 40% since 2020… 😤
lol. thats funny. i got 2.75% and a model employee. be grateful
@@ap1873 Trying to be, it’s difficult, but at least it’s something… had to fight tooth and nail for it too.
Did you even deserve any raise at all?
My former taco bell shift manager made over $12/hour. And that was in 2005. I thought that was ok money for that time. Couldn't imagine that today.
Government can turn off the electricity. But it has nothing to do with control.
FYI Michael, I know a guy here in the Philippines (a Filipino) who works for a company in New York as a graphic designer. His pay: 50,000 pesos a month. That’s less than $1K USD. Talk about a bargain. But in the Philippines, 50K pesos a month is considered a pretty good salary. 🤑
I also hear call center employees in the Philippines make much less (last I heard I think it was 30K a month). That shows you why companies like Citi Bank and Amazon are moving part of their operations overseas.
In Canada, it is MANDATORY to pay overtime when your daily or weekly hours exceed those established under the modified work schedule. Maternity leave and sick days are also something Canadians receive . Minimum wage is $17.40 in British Columbia Okanagan Valley, Canada's Florida.!!

We've been driving out to the country and liberating a cow that we bring home for rendering.
My August bill for a two story 3264 square foot home was $386 in 2023, this August 2024 it was $561 for the same month. APS admits to 9.1% rate hike on their website. I live in Suprise Arizona. My pay hasn’t changed year over year. We have Nuclear power and it used to be cheap a decade ago. Why now such a large increase is beyond me. Greed?
I live a bout a miles from beach didn't have any AC . The weather is good year round .still my electric bill going double .
I’m so glad I didn’t wait for a crash. lol some people have spent the last 5 years waiting on someone else to fall on bad times. Meanwhile landlords are taking advantage of them. Ridiculous
Dang I have to watch again because I keep getting sidetracked watching the scenery 😂😂 👍love it!❤
I do the same. The walk and scenery is so zen.
I'm watching your channel with horror. In my city in Sarasota Florida, there are unskilled workers being hired for $110,000 per year and the hiring frenzy continues as a result of the city manager finding new ways to rejigger the government in order to hire and expand his job. For instance, recently he opened a "natural resources" department and hired seven people which includes a department head at an enormous salary to fill new positions. Their job is exactly what the arborist did for years - measure trees to see if a new development, home or otherwise, complies with the tree removal rule. Can you do a program on this type of government expansion? The city is North Port, Florida.
Good evening Michael and Lizzie, unfortunately pay adjustments are becoming rather common these days. Job descriptions are being changed, positions are either eliminated or combined. Thank you for your excellent spot on content and enjoy California.
Great video, definitely real world!! No cost of living increases in 3 years, with inflation, I make 20% less after expenses. Insurance home and car has increased, food has cost has increased or like Costco you are getting less for the same price. Gas is still up, and medical costs have gone up.
This is happening globally. China, UK, AUS, etc. Coincidence?
@@cubpanda5951 high inflation, high unemployment, wage reduction is all happening in China right now also.
