Video info: Jimmy Page was the one who wrote lyrics for the entire first Led Zeppelin album. And it wasn’t until the second album that he managed to convince Plant to join in. Plant soon developed a clear set of directions in his lyrics. Sexuality on one hand and storytelling on the other. Specifically nordic and whelsh mythology caught his interest. In this video we’ll talk about Led Zeppelin’s musicianship and Robert Plant’s fascination with northern mythology.
What band or artist should be next? Comment here 🎸😄
Radiohead, NIN, Black Sabbath, take your pick if you wish...
Please make something about the band CheVelle. They had so many hits during the early 00s and all over such an awesome discography but it seems to me that they are nowadays way to unknown and underrated…
NIN!! 🖤
Soundgarden pleaaaase!
Pink Floyd, please!
I truly hate classifying artists, and i strongly believe everyone sees things differently which we should all respect, but Led Zeppelin's greateness is something undoubtable, i've been listening for years now and i can't wrap my head around how good they were. And videos like these make me appreciate them even more, thanks Lie!
The first album is just stolen stuff from great artists
@@truffeltroll6668 not every song. Its not like they claim those songs are theirs. And idk if you're trying to argue with the sheer musicianship of Zeppelin, if you are then you are truly a lunatic, respectfully
@@RedMissou are they imressive for their time? Yes.
Are they impressive compared to the modern standart? Not really.
Just releasing others songs without really crediting them kinda is stealing
@@truffeltroll6668 Thats okey, millions of others, plus every single person who knows a bit about music disagrees with you
Well maybe they didn't but everyone knows they were covers with their own touch so
@@RedMissou what high form of music theory do they use?
As i said, they are good in a specific context.
I wanna see lie, David, and polyphonic doing a vid together
That... Would be AWESOME!
David Bennett?
Would you ever talk about a bass line in a song? For instance Ramble on has one of my favorite bass lines ever, it carries the song more than the guitar I think almost as if Page and Jones switched roles for this song.
You're so right!
Another superb JPJ bass moment: the tone and playing on Heartbreaker.
When you hear just Plant and the bass in the verse, that thick tone carries the movement in such a way that sticks out to me, and nicely juxtaposes Pages guitar that comes in at the end of every other bar.
The bass line in Immigrant Song is also impressiv
my favorite LZ song👍
Jones is the unsung hero of Zeppelin.
7:32 not a mellotron. He played an electric piano (Hohner Electra-Piano + effects). A mellotron is a completely different instrument that plays actual instrument samples on tapes (1 tape per key). Mellotron is used to do string orchestration on Kashmir live, for example.
Harpsichord?
Recommended by David Bennett and I'm glad he sent me. Great video!
Thanks! His video is great too.
same
0:48 Plant was under contract with another record label during their first album, they didn't want to credit Plant on the first album to avoid paying royalties to the other label (not to mention most of lyrics were lifted from other artists' work).
5:30 in the morning, new LLM video and Led Zeppelin. Screw sleeping.
Hah, thanks for staying up ;)
My two favourite things in one video Led Zeppelin and Norse mythology
Yesss
Great video! It was awesome to be part of it!
Thanks Pietro. It was great working with you :) Keep up the good work.
@@LieLikesMusic I will thanks!
Great analysis! Informative and I liked your playing parts to demonstrate. Recommended by David Bennett!!
Thanks ;) Bennett's channel is great too. I'm glad you clicked over. Any bands or artists you want to see featured in the future?
Still my favorite band of all time
Great thumbnail
Scandinavian Metal Attack's Thor 🤘
I studied Mythology in college and the Norse Mythology has a unique and valuable perspective on Life and Death, obviously influenced by the cold, harsh habitat. I also recognized and appreciated Led Zeppelin's Norse mythology references in No Quarter and Immigrant Song. As for Ramble On, however, references to Tolkien characters are not really "Nordic Mythology".
Is it a coincidence that these 3 songs are among my favorites AND have this Nordic influence? In any case: I learned something new AND this video makes me wanna listen to Led Zeppelin even more! Great content, Lie 😀👍🏻
The main guitar riff in No Quarter is one of the most orgasmic things ever in music. Actually not just the guitar but also the keys, bass and drums all together... It's transcending, no other way to put it. That song and Ramble On, both perfect in my book. Of course LZ has lot of perfect tunes.
One of my "definitive" rock bands for sure, and the list would go from era to the next: (punk and metal not included)
The Doors
Led Zeppelin
Pink Floyd
Van Halen
The Cure
Jane's Addiction
Soundgarden
Incubus
Queens of the Stone Age
Tame Impala
For sure. You've got a great list here. I love almost all of these bands. Especially Qotsa and Pink Floyd.
No quarter is one of my favourite LZ songs.
Ah same here man. Have you heard Tool's cover of it?
Interesting video 👍✌️💜😊
I feel that "No Quarter" is more about either the Templars, or more than likely, the Albigenses/ "Cathars" (especially the two who escaped siege of Montségur😉 with "News [new testament?] That must get through"🤔).
Cool vid, though I do have one complaint. Valhalla is not the norse version of christianity's heaven. The two religions developed very far from each other, so the only influence was when the stories were actually written down on paper, as the norse preferred an oral tradition.
Sure. That might be true. I meant it just as a simple comparison to clarify the meaning. Thanks for expanding on this though.
Zeppelin was the greatest band on the planet!
We need more analyzations like this one showing lyrics and all the musical aspects of songs. This was brilliant, lie.
Thanks i'm glad you liked it :) A lot of hard work and time that goes into an analysis like this. So i'm not sure how many more videos i can make where i focus on more than one instrument.
So stoked I found your channel. I love rock and I love Norway! My family lives in Bergen ☺️
Zeppelin is my favorite band of all time, albeit Metallica and Depeche Mode are tied for a close second. Thanks for this awesome video!
Edit: you can play, too! Wow! 👏🏽👏🏽
David sent me this way but I’ve been watching you for a while now
Plant did contribute to the song writing in the first album but he's not credited because he's still in a contract in other record label;)
The keyboard effect on "No Quarter" is a phaser not a flanger. Specifically a Maestro Phase Shifter.
Dude sent me. Im here now some 2 years later.
omg David all of a sudden haha
well the music and guitar nerd in me loved this...and I'm not even very familiar with Zeppelin
Yupp it was fun doing a collab with him. And yes Zeppelin are amazing. I won't say i'm a dedicated fan, but some of their songs are mind blowing.
How can you not know Zeppelin??? OMG...start listening to their music! Greatest band in history.
Good video when I saw the title I was expecting the battle for evermore to be one of those covered but I guess you can't cover everything. Maybe it was just too obviously inspired by the Lord of the rings.
Very nice vid and channel! David Bennett Piano send me here!
This channel deserves more subscribers😤😤
Hah i already have a ton. But thanks
David Bennett's bits were brilliant :)
I'm glad you liked it
Golden Sun!!! Truly one of the best series I have played!
You can link the world of LOTR with Norse mythology. Tolkien was inspired by Norse mythology. Dwarves and Elves are in both Norse sagas and his books. Naming swords and axes were a viking thing like in LOTR. Gandalf was inspired by Odin and the word Gandalf is norse for Wand Elf.
This is SO interesting, thank You!
I think the lyrics of No Quarter were written after the music, so the music wasn't crafted to follow the lyrics. The reason I think that is that there are earlier versions of No Quarter to be found on You Tube with no lyrics. In fact in one of them Plant sings along without lyrics, he's just singing la la la sounds.
David Bennet me mandó hacia Ustedes. Gracias.
Great video
So much ads. Content isn't even half of the video. Seriously.
great video man...3 guys play very well..
Thanks. I'm glad you liked it.
Here from David Bennett Piano
What, no "Battle of Evermore"?
The video would've turned out a bit too long if i included all the songs i think.
David Bennett sent me!
20210723-Fr.1940, 😎 This video is very well done! (David Bennett recommended you.)
When I hear this song, like some other from Led Zep, I don't see Vikings, I see a witch cabin in the snowy dusk, and I see Krampuses. 😅
David Bennett led me here
And he lead you well. Thanks for watching Paul. So tell me why do you like Ghost so much?
Ive been sent here by David!
Don't forget Page's connection to Crowley he even did the original soundtrack to Ken Angers Lucifer Rising
That piano guy sent me :D
Nice Chrono Trigger poster
Thanks. It's a great game

Please make a detailed vid about Zeppelin‘s belief in aleister crowley’s occult
Pages, not Zeppelins.
Why should i?
2:37 ... slight confusion as to who was fascinated with Nordic mythology...
Sent by David Bennett...
For me, Jimmy Page is the gamut of life’s past into future the lessons we learn by others &of suffering and the magnificent beauty around us if we pay tribute to it - into music into rock- the ride into past & future.
Robert Plant is a Sex & Love Sultan that connects the human in harmony.
You should cover incubus
1:06 Plant writing about sexuality... with Jim into Nordic mythology... 2:37 mentions the reverse... needs clarification...
Can you hear "Immigrant Song" without seeing the coxswain of a Viking longship pounding the rhythm for the rowing warriors?
Great vid
Thank you.
I never really noticed Jimmy Page’s fingers before.0:27
That's what effortless playing looks like.
db sent me?
i loved this video
Thank you. Anything in particular you liked?
@@LieLikesMusicThe video has inspired me to learn some of these great songs. The general idea is compact but it's fresh. Idk how to do a constructive opinion this time but i enjoyed the video very much.🥰
Who else was sent here by David Bennett piano? 😁
Hmmmm...E and D MAJOR power chords....?
david sent me
No Quarter, what a Masterpiece, one of my favorite song ever
And where exactly is Led Zeppelin´s connection to Norsk Mythology now, apart from having written TWO songs - and a song connected to Tolkien, who himself had nothing to do with Norsk Mythology?
You could just as well see a "connection" to dogs, because they wrote Bron Yr Aur Stomp...
Immigrant song is clearly about Icelandic people's emigrating to Greenland. Fight me.
so thats why the immigrant song is in thor!
There's definitely a lyrical connection there yes
good god stop playing your open A chords with that 123 fingering!!!
You should stick to the stories about bands and up your chops before giving lessons
wtf i am one of the firsts to watch this lol
