The life of Michelle Kirlew, an active and vibrant mom, was turned upside down by pancreatic cancer. It usually strikes people over 70…she was diagnosed at 41. Facing a battle with a form of cancer that kills three of four patients in the first year, she fought. What followed was a whirlwind of appointments, tests, treatments, surgery, chemotherapy, and radiation.
This emotional and physical rollercoaster usually happens out of sight and out of mind, behind closed curtains and doors at doctor’s offices and in homes. Michelle and her family want to change this. They believe her story can change lives. This is "Michelle’s Story."

My father was in denial until the day he died. Sigh, she is being honest, but my poor dad, who died when I was quite young, was in denial not just to us, but to himself. It was brutal. He died of Pancreatic cancer. This woman is amazing! She is a fabulous woman.

Wow! What a beautiful amazing lady she was...I loved it when she took up for her husband and made it clear to her family and friends that her husband and kid's were in charge and their wishes that they agreed upon would be fulfilled ...That to me speaks volumes of the incredible wife and mother she was and I have so much respect and admiration for Michelle ...I also loved Michelle's spunk...I could just see the fight in Michelle's eye's! What a graceful..beautiful woman she was! Her personality was rare...I know she drew me in and Michelle was the type of lady we would all be lucky to have as a friend! I'm so happy this video waa recommended to me because she changed the way I thought and felt about a few thing's...I so wish she could've stay cancer free...what a tremendous loss! My condolences to her husband, kids and all those who were fortunate enough to have had such a precious lady in your life...RIP Michelle...you did beat cancer by the way you lived...hugs...❤❤❤

Such a brave and beautiful woman. A tiny mole on my cheek turned it melanoma in 1997, scans showed it was in my lymph nodes and so I had surgery to remove 46 involved nodes in my neck. Chemo for a year and a half, remission, but was told cancer could show up just about anywhere in my body because of the lymph nodes involved. So far, so good thank God. But the anxiety is there even after all this time. Two weeks ago I had major surgery in my abdomen, Dr. Opened me up to make sure it wasn't cancer, adhesions had taken over much of my large intestine, but no cancer thank God. Even tho I've suffered from major anxiety now and then, this awesome young woman showed me what true bravery is and how to fight the good fight. Her family stood strong beside her and I just know they must miss this witty, loving mom and wife so much. God bless her, RIP Michelle and blessings to her beautiful family....boo :)

My Melanoma started as a mole on my back. I to had my Lymph Nodes removed. After Chemotherapy it went into remission.
Now our lives are yet again upside down 😢.
My husband has been diagnosed with Lung Cancer and they cannot cure him. We are truly broken-hearted. 💔
My poor gentle husband has taken such good care of me.
I must try to stay strong for him and take care of him.
He has a biopsy on Tuesday then back to his Specialist on Friday. I will always be here for him. ❤

I'm SO glad I watched this! As a cancer patient myself, Michelle's story has inspired me so much more than I could ever say. She took on her cancer journey with unbelievable grace & emotional strength. Her husband & family are wonderful! It's obvious that she was 100% supported by them. I hope that they had people to lean on as well in those final days & beyond. I'm not in the final stretch of my journey yet, but I pray that when I get there, my husband & I will handle things as well as Michelle & her husband did. Peace be with the entire family.

Michelle was a very loving, strong, courageous, feisty lady that didn’t back down and gave it her all to the bitter end!! I hope if I’m EVER faced with anything even remotely to this, that I can be the same way!! And actually I cringe today when somebody says that to me. I don't want to hear it. You are just doing it because society is telling you to do it.

I have staged 4 PC and I was inspired by Michelle s testimony. What a brave faithful loving person she was. We must get more funding for research for pancreatic cancer- like we have done for breast cancer and heart disease
The answer is out there and there are brilliant doctors and researchers out there. Go to PanCan.org to get answers to questions, find clinical trials, find out how you can help. People are living years instead of months. Let’s make that possible for more people. I want to see my grandchildren grow up and I have a lot to do before I’m ready to leave this world. So I’m grateful for the excellent doctors I’ve had and the Folfirinox treatments that I made it through 6 months - I’m so blessed to be alive!

Michelle is right. If you are a cancer patient, what matters to your loved ones, is to see you fighting to live. That’s how you show your love for them, and your love for your life. If your cancer ultimately ends your life, you’ve still won, just by committing to the battle. I am an adult who has lost both of my parents to cancer. I’ll never forget their strength and courage, and how they never gave up, never stopped trying to live. It will always mean the world to me.

Pancreatic cancer has killed my dear Aunt, her lovely daughter and my friend’s husband. It is a deadly cancer. We all know that chemo just gives you time and actually can spread the cancer, as chemo suppresses your immune system. I think cancer research should focus more on lifestyle and on eliminating the toxins in our foods and atmosphere. It is upsetting to see this poor lady, so full of determination to get better, deteriorate and die. It really is. Doctors are not miracle workers and should always be honest with their patients. Rest in Peace, sweet Michelle. So very sorry, medicine failed you.💖

People are always so stressed and worried they are or will be a burden on the family members. I took care of my mom as she had brain cancer and lost her ability to stand and do pretty much anything. I can tell you it was alot of work but no it wasn't a burden as family members we don't think of it like this. If I had to do it again I would do it for a loved one. When you are going through this or are going to go through this it's usually just the person that is ill that thinks of the burden part. The family members will do everything out of love to help that person. It's not a burden.

Absolutely true. My poor Mama kept thinking she was a burden during her journey. NEVER did I think she was that; what she was and will always be, much like lovely Michelle here, is a graceful, strong, beacon of light that shines through the darkness. These beautiful people that suffered so much, have taught us not only how to live, but how to pass on from this plane. Such strong, beautiful beings, never considered a "burden" by those whom love them the most.

How true. I was a widow at 38. I cared for my late husband at home through his dying and death. It isn’t a “burden:” As far as I’m concerned, it was an honor and a privilege. It was the hardest yet most rewarding experience I’ve ever had and I’d do it again in a heartbeat.
Now, would I have done this for my biological mother? Absolutely not. She was a horrible abuser of her family and with whom I cut all ties a few decades before her death. I would ensure she had adequate food, clothing, shelter and basic medical care. Period. *People die the way they lived* and she abused everyone who cared for her, professional or personal up to her last breath. *No surprise there.*

I was a Nurse for 23 years and a part-time nursing teacher. I hate these type of cancers, they eat away at the patient bit by bit. It is a cruel, horrible disease. Breast cancer gets 75% of cancer research money. This type of cancer gets 1 % of that money, which enrages me! Rest in peace you warrior 🙏 💔

Agreed, and I am a stage 3 breast cancer survivor whose mother died from metastatic disease at 67. I was fortunate to be able to access cutting edge targeted therapy that likely saved my life, because bc gets a lot of research $. I truly feel so bad for families struggling with pediatric cancers, or other less common cancers
