  • Real Doctor, Dr. Pak (@dr__pak) is on to defend science and all her glory. I challenge the quality of "science-based" content, and the use of science as a marketing hype by "bad actors".
Should you trust someone because they have a PhD?
What's the difference between a sports scientist and an exercise scientist, and how well do the understand the foundational science for the field or training (anatomy, biomechanics, physics etc).
As a bonus we also discussed his recent publication "Optimizing Resistance Training Technique to Maximize Muscle Hypertrophy: A Narrative Review". with Dr Milo Wolf, Max Coleman, Ryan Burke, Alec Piñero, Jeff Nippard, and Brad J. Schoenfeld,* www.ncbi.nlm.n...

Pak, come on, there IS cronyism in science based cliques among the expansive community. It DOES drive whether certain assertions are ignored or defended. And all it does for us normies trying to sift through it all is compound the confusion.

The two vids have been great so far. Milo needs an intervention. His "best exercises" videos are terrible and his entire identity is tied up on everything is better with lengthened partials.

Yes, those "best exercises" are kinda annoying tbh.

He plays good ol "science based influencer" game to the max...but i think jeff nippard kind of wore it out like 5 years ago, now its just annoying

1:45:40 Yes, exactly. It seems like any critique directed at some of Brad's studies (like lack of blinding) or at other studies out of Lehman College like the way they define failure) is automatically shunned or deemed as anti-science. It's high school ego shite. Of course it's not a big deal for Pak as he's in the "right" group.

I think the newest iteration of the industry is “science”. Looks like science, sounds like science…..but it’s more marketing and self promotion.

501 - Kas you made very good points all throughout the videos, very good episode. I agree that correcting bad science cannot be done only through memes!

Seems like longitudinal studies bother Kas because they don't control for enough variables, but this may be a feature, not a defect. Gen pop encompasses all the same variation.
Ideally, enough additional individual characteristics would be measured to allow intensive subgroup analysis. Perhaps, subgroup analysis should be mentioned more often in study abstracts and conclusions.
Aiding broad algorithms with some nuance is needed but not a sexy area of science.

Nothing is a bother, but you have to take that context under consideration when extrapolating from the results, and often that context is lost.

Who is the "voldemort" driving nice cars they're talking about? Mike from Renaissance Periodization?

Man kas is stepping on some toes lol...if pak wasnt so easy going it would be very awkward conversation...but even if its little bit nitpicky and all over the place, those debates are great...you need to put on more people
P.s. love the paks dig at you that you want more appreciation from scientific community, that was funny

Ultimately the bros don't like being told that what they've doing isn't supported by the research and that they've gotten results despite that fact because PED's are the trump card. They refuse to see that if they optimized their training by using some more evidence based approaches, they couldve seen results quicker and or more efficiently.
