I agree Lester! I saw you when you first started on You Tube and the other channel place that is blue. Jami and you were meticulous with cleaning and upkeep of what you could afford to buy gradually. I think with our modern generation they are given too much all thru life so their work ethic is "do enough to get by." I see that in schools now with students. At my former school we were told we couldn't give zeroes as it would ruin their averages. So no work was given a 50. It just starts young. I have a feeling Kim, Tina, Dan, and YOU worked hard for anything you wanted. PawPaw and GiGi raised you well. Not criticizing anyone just stating my observations!

Sorry to say Lester, but Some kids don't work as hard as others and would rather play games and just talk about nonsense stuff, forgetting that although it's a "farm" it's also a sanctuary which means you need tighter rules. The issue with the ducks not using the pond as much as you expected is because Muscovies are the only domestic duck that is not derived from the wild mallard, and is a separate species. Mallards belong colllectively to a group known as "Dabbling ducks", along with species such as Teal and Pochard. There are other groups such as "Diving ducks", which include species like Eider, Golden-eye and Ruddy ducks, but Muscovies belong to a group known as "Perching ducks", and as the name suggests are not quite as aquatic as the other groups and will spend a lot of time on land and often found perching on fench posts, trees etc.

  • @jeancultice6859
    @jeancultice6859 Год назад +10

Yes you have lots of birds. But you could eliminate a lot of that mess in that barn if you would put chicken wire or bird netting on the underside of the rafters. If you turned that whole side of the barn into a chicken coop with perches along the whole side wall they would soon start roosting there. The chicken coop that was done for you was never big enough for all your feathers to begin with, and the extra wall in it just took up space and really didn't make much sense.
You could even use the space between the two barns as a coop. Close up the back end ends put a chicken door into the barn and an entrance door up front add long roosting places and lots of nesting boxes. Iknow your going to say you need that side of the barn for the bigs for shelter, well the donkeys are in the littles pasture and have access to their barn, the bigs are spending most of their time out in the back pasture and would be happy with a large loafing shed back there.
There are covers to put on your stacked hay to help keep the birds from nesting in it.
And maybe it's time to rehome some of the ducks and extra roosters.

Well to start you need to put the feathers in a pen. You need to leave the chickens in the coop for 30days . Never had a problem with our chickens getting out after that . If you you want them out then you let them out and teach them with food when you want them to come back in. Automatic chicken door for the coop to at a certain time and then when they are in the pen for the night it closes so predator can't get them.

Lester, build chicken runs and allow them out to free range for a few hours a day. We had chickens and that’s how we farmed. We we wanted them back in the runs we would throw chicken feed in the run and they would go back in. We would shut them in for the night. They would be let out at about 20/11 in the morning and go back in at about 5 in the evening. We would have water and feed in the runs also shelter with roosts and laying boxes. I wish I could send you a diagram of our chicken runs.

I would think there has to be other farms in the area or close by that deal with fowl. I agree and to see all the bird waste cannot be healthy. Especially for Rip. I watch you every day., and I do agree that the fowl situation needs to be handled, especially since Megan has brought in a new species. (That pen she created is just freaking adorable btw)
Don't feel bad if you need to donate some of your chickens to another farm or sanctuary. It will just get worse as more eggs are laid., LOL my goodness.
Unless you can designate a separate field in a pasture and build a larger chicken house/closed in pen. Clip the wings so they can't come back to the barn. Hey, they might actually be happier there. Oh well what do I know, I have never raised chickens, but I do know on my aunts farm they were always kept away from the main barn area. Not too far but enough to keep them happy in their own pen etc. Hope you don't mind me voicing my thoughts.

    IDEAS!!💡💡😅 ‼️
As for the tractor, to keep it clean, why not take an old fitted sheet and drape it over the seat and the steering wheel with all the controls underneath, where the chickens cannot leave a mess behind, even if they choose to lay on top of the sheet! That way the sheet can be pulled off and hung on a peg while the tractor is being used and then put that dirty sheet right back over the top to keep everything clean underneath. Wash periodically.
#2- you can keep those water troughs poo 🐓💩 free as well as the salt/mineral licks. Just take an old piece of sheetwood or that metal roof sheeting stuff and attach a piece a couple feet above those troughs to keep the Poo 💩 from going below it. I don’t think the feathered🪶 babies would roost on it especially if you leave it at a little bit of an angle, but high enough up that the Longhorns can reach underneath it, and not bang it around. Best of luck, Lester!🥰

Lester is absolutely correct about his machinery. They should be kept clean and the way you like them to be treated. After all, you bought them. If LE and Megan wants that barn strictly for animals and chickens that poop all over then, LE needs to pay for you a machine shed with doors for you to keep your things clean. My husband was the same way with his tools and cars. My kids learned from day one, if you borrow something you bring it back the way you borrow it. You do have too many feather babies too close to the barn. It would be nice if they free ranged a little further out. When my parents had a farm the barns were closed so the feathers couldn't stay there. They were raised in a chicken coop but were free range. Of course this was in the north so different kinds of barns. We had a opening higher up to keep hay on second floor to get air and no feathers could fly up there. I guess you have open barns for air to go through. It can be frustrating to have poop all over the place near where you have to work. Hope you can find a solution.

The only way to get the chickens under control is to not let them keep hatching more. I know you said locking them in the coop doesn't work but it does. Those skinny little perches need to be replaced with 2X4s and having them angled in the corner means less room/more fighting so sleeping there isn't inviting right now. A temporary measure to keep them from going back to the rafters would be to lay boards up there or weave some hay strings 6 inches apart. They'll use the nest boxes if there is no other choice. Your hay waste would go down considerably if you didn't allow birds to crap and drop feathers all over it.

After that I had supervisors/administrators that had rules. Some made sense, some did not. I was getting paid, I did what I was asked (within reason). We taught our kids the same thing. Teachers make the rules etc. I suggest, even as their father/uncle, tell them that until they pay for that equipment they need to do what you ask even if they do not see the necessity. And then, buying three or four chicken runs connecting them together, which would provide a lot of space for the chickens add a chicken house for roosting, and would hopefully make collecting eggs easier. And then feed the turkeys and the peacocks, inside goat pasture in the grass or in bowls somewhere away from Santoro's water, just defiantly some place different from where they have been eating now. Just a thought. Love ya Lester Love all The Animals!

Whole heartly agree with keep your work machinery, tools and vehicles clean, they will last longer. Feathers poo can destroy the paint work on your farm machinery, and there nothing worse than picking up your good tools out of the dirty and animals poo. We can all be guilty of dropping or not putting thing away straight away. I hole my hand up to that one to.
Feed all feathers away from the barn,That will be a big start. just make sure they have shelter, and a place to sleep away from the barn. Maybe a Dixie's type of a shed down by and around pond or in a corner same where..with lots of place for the chicken and turkey to roost on + to sleep. It will be not take them long to work out where they food is. You have been lucky in same way this year, not many baby chicken etc have not been take by predators. That in itself help to keep the feathers population down.
So time to change place's to feed the food!! down by the pond is best. I will say one thing, Muscovy Ducks are very much hang around back door duck's. We always had to feed all feathers down the back out in the far pasture. My MUM hated Fleather up around our back door. They alway had to be away from the back door.

Farm equipment is so expensive and when you've work hard for your things you tend to take care of it more than others would. Maybe make a list for LE, Meghan and Ben to do for the things that you care about that is put on the back burner. 3) Could you not also have water run through the city to the ISS and that way you would always have a back up!!!
That way you could run that fan and keep them cool!!! ITS SO HOT!!!!!

Lester, here's an idea of how to rescue the Sanctuary as it relates to the feathereds. As soon as they lay eggs, COLLECT THEM and put them up for sale. Take a page from your friends over at Cog Hill. Not only do they collect eggs as part of their food source, they also reuse their egg cartons for eggs and have a cart where they have a small refrigerator and selling eggs to passing motorists, as well as some vegetables and flowers. Oh, and Jami's correct! It's your job to put your clean clothes away and not leave them laying around. So the situation with the egg layers. As soon as they lay eggs COLLECT THEM, use what will be used for food source and reuse egg cartons to sell the rest. In every farm channels that I'm subscribed, it seems that every farmer/homesteader/sanctuary caregivers-caretakers are doing just that. It's time TO DO just that even at the Ima Survivor Sanctuary. It's the ONLY solution to that messy problem, otherwise you're going to continue having that gross mess. Plus that coop that was made? Put it TO USE! Failure to be proactive is what causes the deterioration of a supposedly "clean" Sanctuary. You're so quick to pass judgment on someone else's failure to clean his water troughs WITHOUT saying who he is, while heaping praise on your keeping your water troughs clean. Not trying to make comparisons, but when I'm watching Cog Hill, I notice in every video they post, their pastures and water troughs are SUPER CLEAN! It's great that LE and Megan have have taken over the day to day operations of the Sanctuary, but if you want something done about the egg layers: female chickens, hens, female ducks, female geese and female turkeys. DON'T let them lay on those eggs if you don't want more chicks, ducks and geese. REMOVE them! Use what's needed and sell what you can in reusable egg cartons. Give it a try and if this resolves that messy problem, that's one task you have tackled in addition to keeping those messy feathereds in the coop. Oh, and with Cornholio? He's a large bird and all birds large and small are hormonal and territorial. Getting too close to them is invading their space and they're in protective mode and with that comes aggression. Screaming and running away from them worsens their aggression and they react by biting/pecking. Plus, running and screaming gives them drama. I know what I'm saying because I have two male Quaker Parrots and one gets more aggressive and territorial than the other. When he wants to bite, he LUNGES. He has bitten me and the bites he's inflicted on me were very painful bites and I deal with his aggression by misting/spraying him and it calms him down. Misting/spraying Cornholio would get him to settle down. Just saying and offering a solution to that messy problem with every egg layers and with Cornholio's aggression. All the best and good luck.

Sister Kim sells chicken eggs. If they would gather them she would take them off their hands. The problem is their coop they had built is too small. Jason at Coghill has a movable coop. The chickens free range. Lester you need to have a place to roost at night and be fed away from barns. Your little Omlet at LHL seems to work. Kim let's hers free range during the day and put hers away at night. Stephanie has a portable pen in the front of her permenant coop. If you keep alowing to go wherever they want then you will continually have the same problems. You can't gather eggs if you have no idea where they are laying them. If you do find them you have no idea how old they are. I'm really surprised you don't have more chicken snakes since the eggs are accessible in so many places. Make a chicken coop in one of the pastures. They can clean one pasture at at time. Just keep moving it to a new pasture

Take a clear plasic tarp and hang it from the rafters so it drapes down. Make sure you leave the dirt side open so they can still get into the raters. Then when they poop the tarp catches it and all you have to do is spray off the tarp to clean up all the poop and it doesn't get into the water and mineral blocks. THEN take a cattle panel and cut it so it fits over the top of the water rough with extra to bend over the front edge and tie it to the back edge to make a hinge so the ducks and feathers can't get in it and the cows can still drink from it and put a auto filler on it so it doesn't get to low for the cows to get their nose in to drink. Then you don't have to clean the toughs as often and the cows still have the clean water they need.

Those birds should be in a chicken coop. It would help keep a lot of things clean and healthy. Just my opinion.

You should feed them at the pond and not in front of the barn maybe that might work, have a place for them at the pond as well maybe for sleeping quarters.

Being persistent is the key. If you show someone how to do something once, you need to follow through a few times and be consistent with it. It isn’t like when we were young and Dad said to do something, you did it or suffer the consequences.

❤ have you had any people reach out to yous lately about any animals needing rescuing, besides dogs? Seems like your more a hobby farm instead of a rescue sanctuary. Don't get me wrong, I have come to love all your babies big and little. Especially Ringo and RIP.

It's a hobby farm, always has been. They have the amount of animals that cam live off the land.

Get rid of the chickens, ducks, and turkeys because they are nasty anyway.

The wide brim straw hat is what you need ALL the time during the hot, sun drenched days. Save your skin with sunscreen and save your caps for cooler weather.

Turns out that sunscreen is really bad for you. The chemicals in the sunscreen actually leach into your bloodstream through your skin. These are chemicals that no human being was ever meant to have in their bodies. I could write tons of paragraphs on the information I've learned recently but I think it would be easier if you just look the information up yourself. Besides, people get snippy when I write big long comments

Lester, something I’ve learned over the last year after losing my husband is to not sweat the small stuff. Don’t expect much out of others and you won’t be disappointed.

You would have to let someone else take control snd you know you can't do that!
