    You going to but something under the antenna , so in a big QLD winds it doesn't slap against the tiles ?

      You don't need the denso tape.
      Use the "mastic"/vulcanizing rubber tape, then wrap it in electrical tape. Just make sure you don't get dirt on the last bit of the second layer of electrical tape.
      👍

    1:00 minute timestamp indicates that the description text might benefit from mentioning 1/4 20 UNC _(consumer camera mount screw thread) size._ This information is to help people. Having that fitting and a VESA mount (for servos to position at a satellite like say so an LNB, by means of KU-Band, can also get data and signals to and from Es' Hail 2 satellite's amateur radio transponder transmitting on the 3CM band)_ atop a grain silo and IBC (water) in refugee camps _(with a small screen at the bottom the height of a man)_ could be handy to send OpenID_OIDC_OAuth2_SimpleSamlPhp_LoRaWAN data for logistics of items, people and business allocation like graphical linear inequalities for moving pretty much anything with a pertaining Q-R Code (3KB) sticker on it, containing all such data and latitude-logitude-altidude cronjob and bearings for derived velocity and IPv6 unique identifier _(and A2DP, EDR bluetooth 5.2 and wifi 6 and ZigBee gadgets atop it with solar power and battery),_ tracking data via markov chains and gaussian heatmaps for disease, nutrition and so forth.
    Would be interesting to see a Q-R code sent/received by Data Mode like SSTV Slow-Scan-TV and the error correction tolerance of those Q-R codes, like say on a version 40 177x177 size. compiled data can be compressed as TAR ball GZ and only safely sent data is sent, so encryption can be used if needed (as a GPL, like GnuPG or BOTAN version). Some portable dishes allow for usb to remote in like RS232 serial for changing angle on a BASH script.
    My comment has no hate in it and I do no harm. I am not appalled or afraid, boasting or envying or complaining... Just saying. Psalms23: Giving thanks and praise to the Lord and peace and love. Also, I'd say Matthew6.

    Think I mentioned it in a previous video, but there is some very interesting and fun stuff in the band, techminds did a few videos on what you can pickup and decoding steps,
    I usually just monitor the inmarsat std-c messages, get the usual weather and pirate warnings, plus the odd email message.
    Iridium is a bit more complicated, but also contains some interesting stuff

    Thanks for the great video! Nice to see a self-vulcanizing tape, I also use it in my job. I wanna ask about a Denzotape. How easy can it be removed from a previously sealed connection?

    • @TallPaulTech
      @TallPaulTech  2 года назад

      It's easy enough... easier than the vulcanising tape. You just take it off like you put it on.

      @@TallPaulTech Three layers of tape if I want it water proofed. Vulcanizing tape, Friction tape, Electrical tape. Friction tape is a neater form of your Denso tape. To remove after a while, use a utility knife and slit it. Then peel it all off at once.

    What kind of satellite antenna is this? Is it for geostationary satellites? Also just a heads-up: all the modifications you've made to that metal strip will cause it to start rusting a LOT faster. The screw too, because you've partially removed the protective covering (probably zinc plating on the strip and zinc-chromate coating on the screw). Just so you know.

    20m of coax you will lose a lot of signal, better to run a short jumper SMA-SMA and run a USB ext cable up to the roof near the ant.

    • @ChrisWilson999
      @ChrisWilson999 2 года назад

      Yes. Alternatively put a raspberry pi on the roof connected directly to the SDR and run ethernet down.

    Do you have to protect against lightning strikes with the antennas on your roof? I keep mine within the attic because I'm not sure how best to deal with that.

    • @TallPaulTech

      If lightning strikes my roof, I'll have bigger problems than that antenna.

    • @CoolKoon
      @CoolKoon 2 года назад

      @@gravelydon7072 I mean if any of your devices get directly hit by lightning then you're SOL either way. If you only get hit indirectly (via inductance) then your devices might stand a chance with the help of a TVSS. Antennas on the top of the roof should be equipped with a lightning rod anyway I think. Either way your antennas are not too useful when they're inside in your attic, are they?

    • @gravelydon7072
      @gravelydon7072 2 года назад

      @@CoolKoon All our antennas are outside. What makes it bad for us is that we have a two story house in the lightning state. we already have had direct hits on this house and the previous house which was only a one story, got hit 5 times in the 17 years we owned it. Were they direct hits, well seeing a heating element impact the glass in the oven door would say yes. As would the TVs and clocks and the fact that the cable from the TV to the amplifier we were on and the rest of a whole block got taken out at the same time, yes. Insurance company refused to pay on the last time until an electrician came out and checked the wiring. As did the phone company and the local city owned electric company. All found that house properly wired and grounded. Such is the dangers of being the first house on a transformer that is connected to a 3 phase line.
