Seeing Alex being a 'naughty little boy' rather than 'serious engineer brain man' is a wonderful thing.
Alex is the epitome of true neutral, he just does things that he thinks is a good idea at the time while everyone else just looks at him like he’s deranged. One moment he is worrying about cpu temperatures and the next he is cleaning off a processor under a tap and cleaning mustard off the board with a soapy sponge

why wouldn't you have silicon lube around. It's the go to for protecting metal parts and lubricating hinges and shit. Far better than WD-40 which is NOT a lubricant and just gums up over time

In less than a year, Riley and Alex became an integral part of the identity of Linus Tech Tips, and I find that quite admirable!
Yeah, i am digging the rotation of personalities, i like linus, but i am digging the branching out and making it feel like a group! It adds to "franchise" or "empire" feel than just a youtuber.

@@bombaclat9758 Like he said in the video, its mostly used for polishing. It is a thing that some people might have laying around. but it doesnt conduct heat as well as normal sized diamonds so this is not a good use for it.

@@DarkXeno I hate to be a buzzkill, but I'm almost certain that these videos (excepting TechLinked) are filmed a few weeks in advance... I think that Linus said this a while ago. Linus, as far as I know, is back from his holiday already, and has henceforth found out about this project (and probably green-lighted it) prior to this video even being filmed and uploaded.
UPDATE: I just saw at 10:50 that this video was shot on March 27th.

5:30 this was literally me. I was pulling everything apart cause I was curious. Turns out the original thermal paste was dried out (it was nearly 20 years old). Plopped on some toothpaste, booted great, then found out the hard drive and motherboard were both kaput. Built my dad a new computer a few months later in the old case. 10/10 would recommend

Personally I just stick welded my cooler to my CPU's IHS, no gaps there. It stays really cool, completely room temperature in fact. Mind you, it doesn't actually do anything anymore. Maybe the grounding clamp was too tight?
try corrosion block grease, designed by learjet, used myself a few times, very good heat transfer, dielectric, and incredibly small particle size plus does not dry out. works out to be a lot cheaper too ;)

superglue works too..but cover the entire heatsink with it and make sure its strait! done it few times works well
I'm thinking nickel/zinc anti-sieze compound. It's an oil base with Nickel or zinc dust inside. Seems to me like that would be a good choice.
I ended up using graphite on my fanless PC because the point of the PC is running for a decade without needing me to go in and fiddle with it.
Make my own thermal paste? Nah, i prefer to just weld my heat sink to my CPU. Much better temps.
Actually this would be a interesting video idea in line with this one. Why not solder the cpu to a cooler. They’ve done more idiotic ideas in the past. Why not give this a shot.
