I've never been able to find Blu-tak in Canada, but I've been using Silly Putty for a few years now, and I really like it. It doesn't leave any oils on the painted surfaces, and it's got a very good adhesion. If any Silly Putty does remain on the surface, I just use the major portion and dab it off. It comes off quite easily. Also for gripping and painting parts, I found on ebay sellers in China that sell quite cheaply Aligator clamps. I'll clamp these to tabs that would normally be glued and paint way. Since they are pointed, I'm able to have a wide range of unobstructed painting.
