I purchased this unit in June 2023 to replace the TS-451+ that succumbed to the intel 'cpu bug' that has bricked so many qnaps lately. Fortunately the 100 ohm jumper fix worked for me so I could migrate my system to the new TS-464. It has been a champ and I'm still scratching the surface of all the capabilities it can provide.
I wanted to say thank you for your channel. It has been my go-to for NAS info and concept clarification as well as how-to knowledge. Keep up the great work!

I got the TS-464 a couple of months ago, and I really like the snappy response compared to the TS-451 I’ve been using the last 10 years. I finally feel like I can do some productive work with a NAS rather than waiting through lags. I don’t like that the bigger drives can make the 464 resonate at a loud irritating low frequency, but maybe that’s more an issue with the drive than the enclosure. I’m trying some sound mitigation for that issue. Thank you to Eddie who helped nudge me towards the 464 through the NASCompares question portal.

Thanks for your update. Initially I was interested in this model but it was a bit too highly priced for my budget and I finally settled on the TS-462. At least here in Spain the diference was about 200eur. I am beginning to use it and for the most part I am happy. After installing 2 cheap 8GB RAM modules and a M2 disk I am mostly happy. However I hope not to regret my purchase due to its CPU limitations. Not so much regarding the supoorted PCI bandwidth but its overall capacity until been overloaded. E.g. I have sometimes seen it at 81% by only installing a couple of apps and launching a couple of restores. Keep up with your great content!!

Great points Robbie on the 453E, that is kinda why I went that direction. Thanks for the 5.1 beta coverage as well, I moved to it with mulitchannel and very happy. With my logic, go with the 453E because is does everything smashing out of the box, only put m2.nvme's into it. If I ever needed to update I would go with the TVS-472XT and skip the 464, that was my logic anyways. I get your points on security, but it has been a long time since they got hit. They have done quite a bit since then to shore it all up, and the bounty. I don't remember what I had for breakfast, so I don't think 5 years is that real of a window :)

I've always been tempted by QNAP. Their graphics chip & HDMI have me drooling. The only thing holding me back is my $5000 Syno investment, as well as unfamiliarity with a new OS.

If you ever update to it, you will be very well pleased. At least I was. In addition 5.1 beta, nvme options, and just speed with everything is really nice. Decoding with the 453E has been very impressive so far. The TVS-472XT is REALLY tempting though...

I have the TS-664. I am using a Mellanox connect x3 for 10gbe (SFP+ connection) that I picked up used on eBay. I did have to take a hack saw to the bracket and drill a hole in the bracket in order to screw it in but QTS recognizes the Mellanox right away without having to install additional drivers. I did change to jumbo frames and am getting 1 gigabyte transfer speeds when transferring information to the nvme drives.

I have 2 X 4 slot QNAP and I am satisfied with the brand, though I my 3rd QNAP died 2 years ago. The main problem with the NAS solution QNAP or any other NAS brand is the horrendous prices. I enquired for additional 8GB or RAM…400€; same bad surprise for a new 8 slot QNAP. This is not acceptable; I’ll probably try to build a desktop for much less money.

Absolutely love the TS464. I've recently upgraded the RAM to 64GB (using 20GB just as a ramdisk for transcoding). I wouldn't want to live without those 2.5Gbit ports anymore, transferring large amounts of data to the TS464 vs. my 1GBit Synology feels like day and night.

I have a TS-464, thus 4 bays. To date I can insert 4 x 22 TB HDDs and reach out a capacity of approximately 60 TB on RAID 5. And No, you cannot have different capacity hard drives on NAS, unless you do configure the Storage pool in a way, whereas the slots act as different pools. Yet, I am just a normal tech user; there may be some real tech people that might give you more detailed answers on your questions. Good luck.
