Be proactive! I'm a fellow STEM buddy. I have a degree in chemistry and work in biotechnology. Opportunities are out there. Make sure to use your time at uni well. Work in labs when you have the chance. Work at communities colleges, volunteer, and look for companies offering internships. My company often hires seniors right out of college who intern with them. I got my foot in the door by working with a contractor company (tailored management). There's no benefits and you'll get paid less to provide the same work but it helps you get into companies that wouldn't consider you as a regular hire. Once you're in you can get converted or you can apply for an internal position. Good luck out there! It's difficult but totally worth it. It's been seven years since I've been out of school and I'm paying off my student loans early next year. Please don't people discourage you ❤
I went to college for aerospace engineering because I’ve wanted to build next-gen spacecraft since I was 8. When I got there the dean himself admitted that all the marketing about how his program is focused around just that was fabricated to garner enrollment and that what we’d really be learning was how to be effective Boeing assembly workers and then followed up by introducing two Boeing reps who gave an hour and a half long presentation about how Boeing doesn’t like the FAA for doing its job and regulating air travel, especially how it relates to their grounding a model of Boeing’s planes when two of them fell out of the sky in the span of 3 weeks.
The trades ARE where it’s at. I graduated with a foreign language degree and have never had a job where I used it, but those student loans didn’t care that there were no jobs for me. I learned that lesson the hard way, but my son is graduating high school and the welding program at our local vo-tech this coming spring, and he will be able to go to work making good money as soon as he graduates.

I used to be a cashier at a grocery store and couponers could get pretty hefty savings because the store would double any coupons less than a dollar but the coupons had to exactly match the product being bought. At the college I go to, the professor only shows up for an hour then leaves. They rush that hour and we are always left more confused than we started. Another professor I had taught so badly, over HALF the class dropped out. I truly think some professors just teach horribly, so we have to re take their class. Aka, they get extra money and job security. The problem is, this leads to students using AI to help with assignments. If I'm spending thousands for a teacher to tell her whole class to drop out & find new careers after a few weeks into an 8 week course, yeah they aren't going to help you. AI is the new professor.
Everyone can teach, but not everyone is a teacher. I love math, statistics and abstract math problems - but failed vector graph in school. It was "either you get it my way, or you're stupid". Meanwhile I taught my girlfriend how to caclulate the %chanse on an 7x5 piece event graph if an original event happened.

So, I live in a small town in Kentucky. I recently went to my local Kroger and tried to use some of the coupons that Kroger sent me in the mail. They refused to let me use them because the item was discounted. Nowhere on the coupon or in the coupon policy does it say you can't use a coupon on a marked down item. They told me they had decided they just didn't want to do that anymore. I ended up contacting corporate because it just felt wrong that they could make up a new policy on the spot that goes against the official Kroger policy. Kroger corporate said "yes, that is a violation of the coupon policy and they shouldn't be doing that. However, there is nothing we can do to make the managers adhere to our policies so at the end of the day it is whatever they say." That doesn't even make any sense! So I totally stopped shopping there for full price items and took my business elsewhere. I will ONLY buy markdowns and loss leaders. And that's only because it's a small rural town and driving an hour one way to get groceries isn't always possible
When I worked at Kroger, the policies really were left up to us, the employees. We liked to follow store policies, but if you were nice, we would usually help you with your coupons. So, yes, it really does depend on the store and who is working there
Ken, at 11:25 you were talking about oil changes and Mann for the longest time I was doing my own oil changes like my Dad taught me too but my grandma had to teach me and now I’m teaching you that at Walmart you can pay $25 for a complete oil change they’ll even put 6 qts if you need the extra 1. Here for an oil filter and oil it would be like $32 for the 6 qts. So you would save at least $6 and save yourself from some labor if you take it to Walmart. It’s their business strategy. I recently got a new 2005 Ford Explorer and had to change the oil, just got it done at Walmart for the first time. I’m going back for sure. Hope this helps you and anyone else reading.
My aunt does this and she gets “money makers” all the time. It goes on your account for whatever store you’re at they don’t get the money back from the store directly if that makes sense. She has a store in her garage and sells everything to neighbors for super cheap
My mom is one of these types of coupon crazies, stores really do give you money it’s a weird thing but how it was explained to me: for every coupon used the store gets credit for more than what the item sold is worth/was suppose to be sold for/ makes up the difference. Companies say let people use this coupon in your store and we’ll make up for the money you’d lose out on by selling the product for full price. We always had body wash, razors, cereal, and toothpaste.
Your comment about the layoffs hit close. In August my company laid off 800 people from our country and most of us worked from my city where the company was founded. It is really sad how company's treat their workers nowadays. Like its not enough the prices are sky high.

My husband makes really good money with a high school diploma because he got good IT training in the military and then got in with the contractors. College would be almost worthless for him at this point.
My dad said the same thing as an engineer who had experience working for the DOD. Next thing he knew, they fired everyone who didn't have a degree regardless of experience and hired in brand new grads at a lower pay grade. Happens to most companies every 5 years or so. Then they switch, it seems.
My husband is a tradesman with some specialized skills under him. They cannot find people to fill positions. They're desperate and willing to offer a lot just for entry level. If you can handle the work and long hours, it's a great place to get started.
it's crazy to me when I hear parents talk about how they have to save up for their kids college. Everyone I've ever known, including myself has/had to fund college ourselves. Isn't that just our own burden to bear? It was never even a thought in my parents head that they would help financially😅
What they are talking about is attending those schools that cost in a year what a human being without a degree can't possibly make in a year. How would an eighteen year old come up with sixty thousand dollars a year?
My parents tried to save but something always came up-like changing jobs, buying a new house, medical expenses. I don’t fault them at all, they worked hard to keep a roof over our heads. A lot of parents can’t save for college so when I hear about parents that did, my first through is: where did you get all that money?
I used to work at Publix and a woman was so good at couponing she would have two carts full of groceries and only spend 80 bucks. It is possible but she used to go through coupons for a while before doing so. But that was back in 2015 to 2018. I haven't seen her since locally.

Just a few tips. If you're getting your car's oil changed by someone else, one do not go to a place that only does oil changes. Not only are they charging you too much, they're going try and sell you a bunch of stuff you don't need or will be done in properly based off of their company's procedures. Two go to a full service automotive shop. Ideally the same shop you would go to or something big broke on your car. Have them change your oil when they're changing your oil. They'll be doing a full inspection of your vehicle because they're not making much money from the oil change. A honest shop will go through your vehicle. Tell you about areas of concern and let you make A properly informed decision.
@drewgoin8849 places like jiffy lube are not staffed by actual mechanics. They take people that don't know any better give them a quick course in how to change oil and to upsell flush services. A actually auto shop that offers a discount oil change is doing so to look over you vehicle and find anything and everything that is questionable and make you aware of it. So if your breaks are low or your ball joint has play jiffy lube will recommend a coolant flush the real shop will tell you about the ball joint the risks of it failing and the cost to replace it.
@drewgoin8849 I have a bad habit of using text-to-speech talking too fast and not proofreading. I thought you were arguing with validity of the express oil change places

Putting the shopping away is a job in itself. The way she shops, she could hire someone to put the groceries away and still save money 😂 Why's she buying more, when she already has so much?

A large Canadian grocery chain came under fire this year for their high pricing. They're response was basically telling people to just use their coupons to make it affordable
I was a cashier at Walmart back in 2010 and one couple found a loophole with tyson products to where they were getting a negative amount .. litarally two cart fulls of groceries and only paid around 20 dollars. Our manager new that shouldn't be right but since the system allowed it she couldnt stop it.. they did this for 3 more weeks before Walmart stopped that kinda coupon from working.. it was insane and a real thing that happened.
I'm glad I live in a community of people who grow their own stuff/raise small animals. We all either trade our items or buy them for cheaper than the organic store option.
As a Canadian, I find absolutely amazing, here in Canada this is not allowed, we have strict coupon rules here!!, you Americans are lucky to have this system.
I'm Canadian too. Most of the time it's one coupon per customer, and it can't be combined with another sale or promotion. Most save you 50 cents or $1, so I rarely use coupons. I'll look for items on sale, but the hassle of looking for, cutting out, and sorting the coupons isn't worth the measly savings.
That's Usually in place at every store. You cannot use more than like 1 or 2 coupons. It literally sets that on the coupon itself. I hate when people do that and get away with it. Just because a camera is there or they make a fuss about it And the person at the registered doesn't want to deal with it.
One like coupon is saying you can’t use more then one coupon per item so if I got Sunny d and had a $3 off $2 and a $2 off one I can’t stack the coupons. There’s usually a limit of 4 on most coupons now but some aren’t specified meaning you can use as many as you want it’s up to each stores discretion on what they allow. For example Publix allows 8 of the same coupons.
I’m just loving the super-realistic talk about college degrees, jobs, and money that Ken and Dane are having! I’m finding myself nodding and saying “yes!” out loud. ❤😂
Nah, "price gouging" is cover for an inept govt that has gas, utility, transport costs, and taxes up. As a neighbor to a local grocery store manager for a big chain, their profit margin has been at 1-2% for the last 2 years.
Yep. The economy the last four years has suffered from bad government policies. Glad we're finally getting Trump back instead of 4 more years of the same horrible economic policies
Cool story. The execs from many of these large companies literally bragged about gouging on yearly shareholder calls. It's not 100% the source of higher costs but vast majority of it.
Macrotrends: Albertsons net profit margin for the quarter ending August 31, 2024 was 1.25%. Kroger net profit margin for the quarter ending July 31, 2024 was 1.86%.
What i found out the other day i had no clue of. The university where i live has their own privet airliner that seats 200 people plus for their college foot ball team. Thats so disgusting. Whatever happened to taking a bus... so our taxes are paying for their private plane...
Its how this stuff works. You catch something on sale or marked down, THEN use a coupon on top of it and end up with a positive credit. Then you can do that 100 times and use that credit towards the stuff you really need. Its why they end up with so many of the same items. Those are usually the ones that offer positive credits with the coupons.
@hellomandarkk My mere existence is going to be criminalized. I won't be able to get the medication I need, and people like me are in extreme danger. But sure, "I'll be okay"
It might depend on the location as well, 1 Jiffy Lube will try to sell me 3 extra things while another will just do my ONE request and mention that they have coupons.
Yep, it usually depends on the person as well, some people feel bad selling things that aren't needed, some will tell you something is needed but say, oh but it can wait, or some people just want the company to profit even if the company doesn't give a shit about them haha (usually to try to get a promotion or it's a location that gives commissions for BS)

I know an American who came to England for University (college), They were planning to go to a relatively small cheap college in the states, Ended up going to Oxford (One of the, if not the best university in the world) and it cost her about 1/3rd of the amount it would have cost in America (for a worse college), including housing, food and everything else.

True. I graduated HS in 2000 and most of my classmates who are doing well financially went into the trades or started a business.

AI is the new professor.

that thing in the corner of the garage is a kiln for pottery
I was yelling that at my screen lol came for this comment
They better use all that food before they expire.
So, yes, it really does depend on the store and who is working there
Fun fact, the parents used to be in an MLM. They’re in the documentary LuLaRich on Amazon prime

We always had body wash, razors, cereal, and toothpaste.
this lady should give her extra to charity instead of letting it rot and taking up space in her home
Your comment about the layoffs hit close. In August my company laid off 800 people from our country and most of us worked from my city where the company was founded. They replaced all of us with outsourced people from Jamaica and Phillipines where its cheaper for them to pay based off their countrys wages. It is really sad how company's treat their workers nowadays. Like its not enough the prices are sky high.
15:30 refund or rebate? I think Menards still does rebates, but why businesses did rebates is most people were too lazy to go through with the mailing process
The fact ken is so down to earth as in he understands how our jobs hire us and how college fudges us over makes me like him that much more
My husband makes really good money with a high school diploma because he got good IT training in the military and then got in with the contractors.
Im not sure about the rest of Europe but in Ireland if the income of your household is below a certain level, higher education is free!
Medical care is also free!
I think it's the same for the rest of Europe, but unsure how it works in the other countries
Buy 5 Save $5 is my mom's weakness. Anytime I take her to the store, she goes for it. I always ask, "Do you need any of this stuff?" 😅

I got curious after seeing "ShelfReliance". Apparently the shelf organizer thing costs 700$ when it's "on sale" (I'm unsure if it's always on sale or not). They have 3 different sizes/styles, one holding 112 giant cans, another holding 300, a third holding 375 and a final one holding 390. Sheesh.
"Have them change your oil when they change your oil."
What???
@drewgoin8849 places like jiffy lube are not staffed by actual mechanics. They take people that don't know any better give them a quick course in how to change oil and to upsell flush services. A actually auto shop that offers a discount oil change is doing so to look over you vehicle and find anything and everything that is questionable and make you aware of it. So if your breaks are low or your ball joint has play jiffy lube will recommend a coolant flush the real shop will tell you about the ball joint the risks of it failing and the cost to replace it.
@@masjuggalo I wasn't arguing the validity of your comment. I was drawing attention to an oddly worded sentence.

Why's she buying more, when she already has so much?
Because it gets her on TV, for one.
8 seconds? what are the chances i refresh my page and see a new post.
Albeit against a corporation this is straight up scamming. Using a coupon then a refund on that item is crazy.
Why buy so much , do you actually go through that or is it hoarding and needs to be tossed out because it expires.?
I had to unlearn what I learned about bulk shopping & couponing from my mother because our lives are just completely different. But it is nice to wait for deals and to buy non-perishable items in a reasonable amount of bulk.
Those savings do add up.
Outside of US higher education isn't expensive, at least not extortionately so.
A large Canadian grocery chain came under fire this year for their high pricing. They're response was basically telling people to just use their coupons to make it affordable
I love hearing the boys say, "Oil."
They aren’t getting refunds. They are getting money back but it’s not cash. It’s store credit. It’s a money back coupon. Not a discount coupon
How much did they spend on things they don’t need, to get the 40k savings.. ex buying more cereal when you have 50 boxes. Just bc you get a sale
That's
Usually in place at every store.
Yes 💯
@fakename1656 source: trust me, bro? What companies? Certainly not grocery. And who might they donate to, politically?
Macrotrends: Albertsons net profit margin for the quarter ending August 31, 2024 was 1.25%. Kroger net profit margin for the quarter ending July 31, 2024 was 1.86%.

That big silver thing is a kiln for doing pottery
Its how this stuff works. You catch something on sale or marked down, THEN use a coupon on top of it and end up with a positive credit. Then you can do that 100 times and use that credit towards the stuff you really need. Its why they end up with so many of the same items. Those are usually the ones that offer positive credits with the coupons.
I really needed this in light of... recent events
