  • Although modern transportation industry provides us with many commuting options, there are still situations, when we need to resort to smaller vehicles to get to our destinations faster and more conveniently. No matter where you are from - India, America or Asia - It goes without saying that in most cases we can get around the city or suburban areas by car, motorcycle or public transport but in case of last mile travel these options don't always work.
    That is why such smaller vehicles as bicycles and scooters still remain popular nowadays. Both of these types of transport are easy to buy, manage and service, they have low running costs too (in case of a bicycle they are almost minimal). If pedaling is something, that you can't do on regular basis, then low displacement scooter and motorcycles are your go-to options.
    Modern 50cc scooters are efficient enough to last over one hundred miles on one gallon on fuel. They sound like an ideal solution for commuting around the city or making short trips around the campus.
    This video can serve as a brief overview of the best scooter models that are available for purchase today. Media for all scooter models presented here was obtained for educational and illustrative purposes only. More information about the makers of these machines can be found in the credits section.
    All these compact scooters have great efficiency, affordable buying prices and modern design. Do you think that they can still remain viable commuting vehicles in the nearest future?

    I bought a used Aprilia SR50 Ditech 2 Stroke that had been 'derestricted' prior to being damaged. Paid $800 and it was incredibly fast and it got around 100 MPG due to the Electronic Fuel Injection. I was well over 200lbs and it would leave SUV's at the light every time. Italian made.

      @@jonathanpirong1486 Used thru Bargain Mart, a printed circular, much like Craigslist. This was 15 years ago in Ky. They are no longer sold in the US. I was told the EFI had a Gameboy chip in it. It would do 55 mph downhill but slow back to 35 or 40 uphill with 235 lbs on it. It carried 2 on flat ground with ease. I sold it for $500 to a guy from Cincinnati.
      I now have a T-Max 500cc.
      But I loved it because of the light weight, wish I still had it. It was more comfortable than most scooters of that size because of the wheelbase & ergonomics.
      Service on a Ditech would require a trained technician.

  • @geraldscott4302
    @geraldscott4302 2 года назад +14

    You left out the most important one, at least for enthusiasts. The Genuine Roughhouse 50. It has a 50cc carbureted 2 stroke Minarelli engine that can be modified as far as you can afford to go. Big bore kits, larger carburetors, expansion chamber exhausts, CDIs with no rev limiter, CVT tuning parts, the sky's the limit. I already have a highly modified 2004 Yamaha Zuma 2 stroke (also with a Minarelli engine) so I am not interested in the newer stuff.
    Full sized adults, before buying any one of these, check the load capacity. Some of them, like the Yamaha Vino and the Honda Ruckus, are well below the weight of a full sized adult. Look for a minimum 300 pound load capacity. You want a safety margin.

    I wonder why the same size Yamaha gets 52 mpg better than the Vespa?

    • @randyd.8171
      @randyd.8171 2 года назад

      The Vespa is much heavier because of it's construction. It is all steel. It is the only 49cc scooter that isn't all plastic. That is better construction for lifetime durability compared to any other small scooter on the market. The Vespa is also the most expensive small scooter. Vespa has the best style, looks durability, and is considered the classiest scooter in the world. It also holds it's value better than any other scooter. The high price is the main problem with the Vespa. Honda, and Yamaha, are now considered two of the world's best scooters, and they are not very expensive for the quality you get. Genuine Scooters are excellent. Not shown in this video is the Honda Metropolitan. It is justl about as good as it gets with a 49cc scooter, and it is less expensive than the Honda Ruckus. Another brand to look at is Piaggio. They have owned Vespa sense Vespa started. The Piaggio brand is excellent and much less expensive than Vespa, if you want an excellent Italian made scooter, at a lower price.

    • @randyd.8171
      @randyd.8171 2 года назад +1

      @@bamf6603 The larger the engine is the lower the fuel economy is going to be. But with increased engine size you gain in speed. A 125cc scooter will go about 50 to 60 miles per hour max. They are not big enough to be really safe on the freeway. A 125 should get about 60-70 miles per gallon. A 50 cc scooter will have a top speed of anywhere from 30 to 45 miles per hour, most top out around 38 miles per hour. They are not legal on freeways at all. Cheap 50cc scooters get from 70 to 80 miles per gallon, A two stroke is faster but uses more gas. The best I have had for both speed and fuel economy is the Honda Metropolitan. I had a 2008 model. It had a top speed of 39 miles per hour on flat ground, and it got 125 miles per gallon. I have a 2008 Genuine Buddy 2-stroke scooter, It is faster than the Honda Metropolitan, but gets less than 100mpg. It has a top end of just over 45 mph, It does take quite a distance to get up to that speed. The Genuine Buddy is an excellent scooter. It handles well, and looks good. But the Honda is better. It handles better, looks better, and it is much more fuel efficient. I also have a 2021 Tau Tau. It is slow on starts, and has a low top end, and it only gets 80mpg. It is okay for a very cheap scooter, But it's cheap, and I doubt it if it will last very long. You get what you pay for. A Tau Tau is just a cheap ride, and it rides like a cheap scooter. It doesn't handle anywhere near as good as any other scooter I have ridden. The Tau Tau is still a fun scooter. I only bought it so I have two scooters, to have one for friends to ride with me. All 49cc scooters loose quite a bit of speed on hills.

    Most women cannot even pull it up to put back on the double stand.and if U park it on dirt and it rains it will fall over. And on a slippery slate U cannot lift it back off the stand.what happened to the original side stand absolutely pathetic

      Hello, thanks for your feedback. What kind of an e-moped do you own?

  • @jamesconner3437

    Sorry, but 50cc has no, like zero, business on public roads. Too slow, too small and almost invisible to even the compact SUVs that dominate even residential roads today. Pickup trucks...cargo vans with no side view...you are dead meat.

      Hello, thanks for your feedback. Is is the minimum displacement that make you feel comfortable on the road?

    • @jamesconner3437
      @jamesconner3437 3 года назад

      125cc. is okay for residentia, downtown city, and rural roads. Nothing under 250cc on main highways, 400-500cc on US interstates. On interstate highways, you have to be able to cruise continuously at 60mh, and still have some power left for long upslopes.
      Any less than these will get a crazy driver to run you off the road. When I was 12, riding on a NSU moped (tops 29mph) in 1965, drivers would pull beside you and slowly move over, crowding you into the ditch. No helmets mostly back then, too...:((

      50cc bike will get you run over. Campus, tight urban environment, sure. But you will get your way on to faster roads. Get a endorsement, and a larger scooter.

      The taotao scooters can be purchased for under $800 brand new. Same basic operating systems as most scooters.

    50cc name brand scooters are never a good deal... they're always overpriced for what you get.

      Really? How many and which ones do you own????
      I own a "Genuine" "Buddy 50" and NEVER had to use the 2 yr parts and labor/1 year roadside assistance warranty -they are THAT reliable.
      I DO get what I paid for!!
